Gas - $4 a gallon.. Has it hit your area yet - and if not, how long before it does?

And we wonder why gas is so high. Not picking on you but this is quite common for suburbanites.

Demand is higher, production is near max, so prices rise.

I can't speak for suburbanites. I don't live in the suburbs.

But, I managed to accrue a credit of over $1500. with my heating company, so what I use in my car, I give back by not guzzling home heating fuel.

as of last night $2.89. I'm sure it went up this morning

If that happens, I'll seriously have to talk to my boss about working at one of our hospitals close to my home and just doing my usual 67 mile a day drive to my usual location just once a week to pick up and drop off work. :(

But you still drive 3 hours a day back an forth to work. As stated earlier in this thread, long commutes are common because of several factors. People seem to imply they are forced to live where they do and work where they do but still complain about gas costs. My dgf used to live in NYC and found it cheaper (even with higher living costs) not to own a car. Now that she's moved in with me, commute costs (as she's looking for work around here) are a factor. She can get a higher paying job in the city (Philly) but once you factor in the commute costs, traffic, time, frustration, etc, she'd have to make significantly more than what a similar job pays around here to be comparable.

I only work 3 (maybe 4) days a week. I chose to live where I live because I love it, not because I was forced (How can you be happy living somewhere by force?) The sad fact is that there isn't a big market for lawyers outside of the city. The firm I used to work for outside of the city had me in my car for 4-5 hours per day going to various courts. So, in comparison, my job in the city is much better, as far as gas goes.

I just don't think you can lump commuters into one big, gas-guzzling, selfish group. You have people shuttling their kids to various events in mini-vans. Some SAHPs might drive as much as I do in any given week.

I never complain about the cost of gas. I agree with you - if you made the choices you made, don't complain. I complain more when some goon hangs it up on 93 and makes me sit still for an hour. THAT is a waste of gas. If everyone would just drive normally and stop causing accidents, people wouldn't have to sit in traffic and waste gas. Maybe there should be a special fine levied if you're in an accident that causes a back-up.

Gas is about 2.95 here in Northville, MI Easter Sunday... $3.25 for the 'expensive' crap.

RECORD HIGH PRICES = RECORD BREAKING PROFITS... No S***T sherlock! So why don't lowever prices and make NORMAL profits. We wouldn't be so angry if you were all eating Filet Mignon EVERY NIGHT on our BUCK!

Was in Minneapolis for the last 2 days and found gas for 2.59 a gallon. Wahoo!! It is 2.75 where I live when I came home last night. I live 2 miles from my job and do no driving for work and hubby lives 7 miles from his business and businees pays for gas. Basically no traffic for either one of us. I'm there in 5 minutes. and he in 10. Love it. The big city is exciting in small doses. I'm good for awhile after a 2 day prom dress shopping adventure.

What do you consider an obscene profit margin? NOT profit, but profit margin. Last time I looked, it was about 12-15%. Pretty good, but many companies have much higher ones and no one is screaming.

I keep forgetting the mindset that says the more you need something, the less you should have to pay for it.

Working in the industry right now, I can assure you that 12 - 15% margins that you are speaking of and considered good are being far exceeded.

Do some checking.

Again, I work in the industry and it puts bread on my table so I am not knocking it, but there comes a point where you start scratching your head as you are filling up you vehicle.

Just 1 1/2 hrs ago $2.69 per gallon--regular-- in Hillsborough, NH
