Garden Grocer or WeGoShop?

see, this is just me maybe...but we're using the GG service and we rent a car. call me crazy, but I HATE grocery shopping on vacation!!!!!! I did it once, and hated that it took hours of my relaxation time to shop through a store, which is all I seem to do at home. So we order groceries, then we run and grab something if we run out. I mean, for a lrge shopping, it takes hours in the store (with my dh) and costs every bit as much (if not more with buying extra things)
in reality, it actually saves money to order stuff,no impulse buying of stuff that way! I figure it's part of my vacation spending to get it delivered and pay a fee for that.

what's a standard tip for this service? or is it a tip position?

Oh, they definitely expect a tip on top of the delivery fee. That was made very clear to me (I was going to tip anyway). I tipped about 18%.

The tip they add to the bill if they leave your groceries with Bell Services is 10%. That seems to indicate that the standard gratuity that is expected is 10%, but apparently if they bring the items to your room 10% is not enough? I might be tempted to have them deliver to Bell Services just to avoid a confrontation over the tip! :rotfl2:

We are in the process of deciding whether or not to order groceries for our trip in June. DS drinks gallons and gallons of milk, so paying $16 per gallon ($2 per pint at WDW) seems silly. We don't do Dining Plan and there were no concierge villas available for our dates (we did concierge last year), so I am pretty sure we need to order some basics.

we used GG- there wa s place on the order form for a tip,so I used that to avoid any problems

We loved Wegoshop too! I prepriced everything we were ordering at our local Walmart here in Michigan (don't usually buy our groceries there) and the Florida Walmart ended up being within $5. I thought that was great!!

I was a bit confused about the tip thing too. I didn't see the option on our preorder to leave a tip there or I would have just done it that way.

Another possible option that I am looking into for my trip in May is to buy all of my non-refrigerated items and ship them directly to the resort. Even though we are driving, I do not want to worry about the space it would take to pack in the car. Then I can either stop on my way in for the refrigerated items or use one of the suggested suppliers. I am still looking into this as I will need to take into consideration any shipping charges.

We're going at Xmas time next year, when do you suggest I contact Marge to book her to do our shopping? Is it possibe to call her when you arive in Orlando to arrange a delivery time? How late in the day do they deliver? Thanks.

I WOULD NOT wait to call her when you get there. I would call her AT LEAST a month prior to leaving and schedule a time. Also, you want to have access to email to create a shopping list for them. That is better done at your house so you can look at the times that you already have al home to get size, ect. I am a big planner, I call at month ahead of time. I don't know how late they deliver, as I usually request an early morning delivery and they usually accomidate me just fine. Ha ve a great trip!

This does sound like a great idea in theory, but the price for it does seem pretty steep. Let's say you order $50- $100 worth of items at Target; they charge you $22 plus expect (demand? automatically charge?) a 10% ($5-$10) tip? That's a 32%-64% surcharge on your total Target bill!

I would think that for less than that, you could rent a car for one day from MCO to Dolphin and pick it all up yourself, or you could take a taxi, either one taking no more than a half-hour to an hour of your time. The demanding of the tip alone would totally turn me off!

But, on the other hand, I guess it is a convenience and even with their charge it is way cheaper than paying $3 per bottle of water in the parks. Is that what I'm missing?

Has anyone used Wegoshop for beer and wine? I know you can buy it at grocery stores down there (unlike NJ), but would I be better off going to Liquor Store? Does anyone know of any liquor stores near Disney?

And yes DH and I are both winos!!!!!! OK, maybe just a little. :rolleyes1

You may want to check out the website if you only order 50 worth of groceries the shopping fee is less. The fee is based on the total cost of items you ordered. It is a give and take. Yes, you do pay a little more, but you have the items that you want/need and they cost WAY less than they would if you were to buy them at disney. In addition, with baggage costs and shipping cost increasing, it is not a bad deal to get the items purchased for you to make sure that they arrive safely in one piece.
