Garden Grill preview lunch

Thanks for the review! I am so glad to hear of a new menu there, as we love the restaurant theme, and always have the BEST character interaction there! However, the food was nothing to write home about. I look forward to trying this on our upcoming trip!

Would love to also know if they are planning on the Ice Cream Social?

I'm by no means an official word on this, but from everything I've heard, they're not planning on resuming it.

I hope the dessert is all you can eat. My kids are going to love this. My DS 4 just saw the picture and he's really excited about it. I wish they would leave the old menu as is and add this dessert idea. DS would really like for them to add cherries to dip into the chocolate.

pirate: Thanks for the great review and the photos. Looking forward to our first trip to the GG in October. One question. Do you know if you can order the chicken without the risotto? DW is a picky eater and likes her food plain.....not swimming in anything. I also heard the the Ice Cream Social is gone. Something about a conflict in time with lunch and dinner. Too bad! I was looking forward to that with my DS4.

Just looked at your pics and wow! Not one thing looks the least bit appetizing. I ate at the "old" GG a few times and loved it. I don't think I want to eat any of that. Or if I do go there, I might have to quote Yzma:
"Is there anything on this menu that isn't swimming in gravy?"

I don't think the chicken should be a problem - they brought out a bowl of risotto separately for me when FH asked about the beef. I was hoping that the sauce was only for the chicken...nope, the risotto was swimming in the sauce as well.

I'd ask for the chicken with the mashed potatoes instead of the risotto, if she likes potatoes.

AMEN Good Faries!

Yuk! None of that sounded to appealing. Our family loved the old menu because there was something for everyone and you could pick and choose.

pirate: Thanks for the reply Forever42. Any othe kinds of potatoes or veggies to go along with the dinner? Anything else for the kids menu to go along with the mac & chesse and chicken strips?

As far as I saw, unfortunately the only dish to come with non-potato veggies was the mushroom ravioli. I like my veggies and this disappointed me! So just the mashed potatoes or risotto.

I should have asked to see the kids' menu, but I didn't, I'm sorry. The sign out front said that there were chicken strips, macaroni and cheese, roasted meats (I'm assuming the chicken and beef), mashed potatoes, and french fries.

Where are the veggies?!?!

pirate: That's OK. Thank you very, very, very much for the info. I was hoping to get to a sitdown character dinner for my DW's birthday instead of the usual buffets. She is a very picky eater. We tried LTT last October and she really didn't care for it. I was hoping to try the GG this October. I guess I have time to think about this. We are planning to try CP for breakfast this year.

We really enjoyed CP breakfast - in fact, we like all three meals here.

What about 'Ohana for your wife's birthday? I know it's not a character meal, but the food is good and basic, and it's a lot of fun for us.

pirate: I'll have to check the menu at Ohana's. I was trying to get a character dinner for her birthday and my DS 4. He just needs to see Mickey!!! Just like every other kid.......lol.

Great review and pix!! I'd really like to see a better pic of that t-shirt with the flow chart. Any chance of adding that on? It looked like a winner. :teeth:

Dessert - don't know about this one, we were too full at the end :(

T-shirt - I'll pull it out of the laundry later ;) FH gets compliments on it everywhere.

YIKES! Too much SAUCE!

I like everything very plain. And I don't like my foods to touch each other on the plate, but that's another thread.

I think if we try a meal at Garden Grill I will be requesting everything with sauce "On the side" a la Sally in "When Harry Met Sally". Or perhaps with no sauce AT ALL.

Hopefully by October the chefs will be a bit more judicious in their use of sauce. If not we will be dining in World Showcase! :teeth:

I didn't understand about ordering a second entree, pardon my stupidity!

If we eat at GG, DH orders the steak for example, I order the chicken, and we eat. If we want more of the same, or something else, can we do that? Is it still all you can eat I guess I what I'm asking. And what is risotto?

Thanks for the great review and pics!

Steph
