Garden Grill preview lunch

I didn't understand about ordering a second entree, pardon my stupidity!

If we eat at GG, DH orders the steak for example, I order the chicken, and we eat. If we want more of the same, or something else, can we do that? Is it still all you can eat I guess I what I'm asking. And what is risotto?

Thanks for the great review and pics!

Steph

That's ok :) You can order more of the same, OR something else - like Akershus used to be, except the portions are a lot larger.

Risotto is supposed to be short grained rice, pan toasted, cooked very slowly with small amounts of broth added in intervals, stirring until it is creamy and the broth is adsorbed each time.

This was more of a pilaf of orzo (small pasta) and barley, but I'm referring to it as risotto because that's what the menu called it. It definitely is not real risotto in any form.

cali99boy, I just heard from someone else that the ice cream social is supposed to return once previews are over, one seating per day at 3pm. Just a big rumor, of course, and you're a CM. ;) I just heard this from someone who knows a CM there.

YIKES! Too much SAUCE!

I like everything very plain. And I don't like my foods to touch each other on the plate, but that's another thread.

I think if we try a meal at Garden Grill I will be requesting everything with sauce "On the side" a la Sally in "When Harry Met Sally". Or perhaps with no sauce AT ALL.

Hopefully by October the chefs will be a bit more judicious in their use of sauce. If not we will be dining in World Showcase! :teeth:

I like fancy food, but I'm like Sally, ask my FH.

Yes, we're hoping that things change. I was .. concerned? that management wasn't asking opinions from the guests. We had a laundry list of things to comment on.

I'd recommend the WS anyway :)

What we weren't told until we had finished our fairly decent sized portions of our entrees was that we could order other entrees as well, one at a time.

yea, sorry, I should have gave an insider tip about that :guilty: We aren't really advertising "all-you-can-eat" or the fact that you can try all the entrees, but........ :teeth:

Hmm, I'll ask about that. But as of Saturday, April 23rd, we had no plans of it happening anything soon. But I guess we'll all see ;)

It's unfortunate that no one was on hand to record your impressions of the meal.

I once participated in the intial run of a credentialing test. There were some really ambiguous questions that I felt needed further revision. I had taken a pilot test the year before and we were allowed to keep detailed notes about the test, the questions, the format, etc. and submit them. Once the final version was released they WOULD NOT listen to anything about the content. They said the ONLY input they were open to was how to market the exam. I preferred not to help them market a flawed exam.

I hope Garden Grill hasn't hit that wall of not being open to input about the quality of their product. When management stops listening things get ugly in a hurry.

Thanks so much for your comprehensive review, Forever42!!

Great review and pix!! I'd really like to see a better pic of that t-shirt with the flow chart. Any chance of adding that on? It looked like a winner. :teeth:

I tried to ask for the same thing last night but my computer wasn't cooperating. My DH would get a kick out of the shirt :)

Ok, here you guys go! :)

Edit: OOPS! Realized there were some not-so-nice words on there that probably aren't allowed here. Edited those out.

Thanks Forever42. Great details about GG's menu. Like many others, I want the old menu back though.

GG is a must do for us! In Aug. 03, my husband (and Mickey Mouse) proposed to me there! He had originally planned it for CRT on our 4th day, but he couldn't wait. He carried the ring around Epcot for 12 hrs. that day in his pocket- loose!!!! We got married in March 04, then we went back to GG and got rehitched last Aug.. A CM told me they stopped re-hitching in Oct. 04 :flower:

I think you missed a big one....... :rotfl:

Actually, I think the menu sounds kind of good. We never ate there before (but did do the ice cream social--it was really nice, they should start it back up).

When does the GG open to the public (sorry if this was already posted, I didn't see it when I looked through the messages).

We might try it out in June.

Hubby & I used to really enjoy the Garden Grill - we thought the character interaction here was some of the best around. ::MickeyMo We missed eating there in January since it was closed & were disappointed when we found out it still wouldn't be open in May for our anniversary trip.

Now that some Disers have eaten there, I need to decide if we should try to squeeze it into our already cramped schedule & count on being able to walk up, if they still aren't taking PS's before we leave in 2 weeks. I'd love to hear if anyone has heard if they might be allowing PS's again sometime soon! :teeth:

Some of the new menu doesn't sound appetizing to me at all, but I don't like seafood at all either. Hubby thought a couple of dishes sounded worth trying & I'll likely opt for the chicken & hope to sub the mashed potatoes for the chicken side. ;) I think the dessert looks yummy - we've never done any sort of fondue type dishes before. Decisions, decisions! :teeth:

That really got to me too. I was thinking the kids would get a real kick out of having fondue. We've never done it either.

We won't be going for 7 more weeks. Can we make a PS for it now? Or are they still not taking PS's? I guess we can try walking up, but I'm afraid it is going to be very busy this summer.

That sounds really good, and it is nice to know that you can get more and different things if you do. That will make my choices much easier, as there are 3 items that really appeal to me!

We are going May 21st, and now I am really excited about it. I am sure with the chicken it will get better.... there are always kinks to be worked out.... that is why there are previews!

Ok, so they are not taking PS yet? We will be in Florida on wednesday for 5 nights, should we just keep checking to see if they are open?

Thanks for the review, I am disappointed they changed it, but hope I get to try it next week.

pirate: I've read on other posts that people were able to make PS for the GG.

Now I'm upset that I only ate at the GG once before the renovation. I loved the catfish and the dessert was also great. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get used to the changes.

I have to ask. Why was that shirt even allowed in WDW? I thought that any kind of profanity on a shirt was not allowed. Did your, was it FIL, think it was okay to wear that to a park where there would be a ton of kids? To stay on topic, I am so glad they changed the Grill's menu! I always thought the food before was kind of an afterthought and had no rhyme or reason. The menu now sounds much improved! Thanks for the review!

No one has answered this question, asked twice, when does it officially open to the public? Anyone know :confused3

Honestly, many people both guests and CMs complimented my fiance on the shirt and asked where he bought it. It's not very noticeable unless you're looking right at him, and neither of us swear out loud while we're there. We don't see a problem with it.

Also, momto2, there have been a few threads already where people have posted that they've been able to make PSs.
