Garden Grill at DCA

However I disagree with PP that said good food options in DCA are limited! DH and I particularly like the Pacific Wharf area, we have had good food at Cocina Cucamonga and the bakery thing (don't remember the name) that serves soup in Boudin bread bowls! They are so delicious!! Not to mention the Karl Strauss beer truck there... :drinking1For table service I'm sure you have all heard of the famous Cove Bar (seriously guys, it's worth the wait in line), and can't forget Carthay Circle! :cutie:

Editing to also mention the Corn Dog castle!! OMG guys, amazing corn dogs. You will not be disappointed. Honestly, DH and I are annual passholders and I don't even know where you would go in DCA to find a burger!! OK that's it :rolleyes1
"Good" meaning healthy. Ya, of course all that other food is good but not healthy at all.

I don't know where people are getting this info, but I just ate there July 7, 2016. It's definitely not closed. In fact, I'm writing an article about it for my blog www.disneynerds.com which will go up in a few weeks. Not closed!

To add to what DisBabe said: it also only reopened just over a month ago (end of June) and did so very suddenly. This thread was accurate at the time it was posted.

Thanks for updating the thread! I remember when this was posted months ago but didn't know it reopened.

Congrats! Yes, it was closed but reopened shortly before our 4th of July trip. It was closed for 2 months, I suspect something was wrong in the kitchen and they needed to repair and that happened. Or they refurbed the kitchen. Would love to know what (doubt we will find out.)

It was open in late July too. I wish I would have known it was open as I enjoyed the kabobs.. By the time I saw it was open it was our last day at DCA and we had already eaten.

Has anybody had the turkey wrap at the Hungry Bear?

Yes and it's very good! Get the fruit option (instead of fries) with it and you have a nice light satisfying meal that's as healthy as you can get in the resort.

I asked a CM at Paradise Garden Grill when I was there in July whether it would continue to be open, and she said it depended on how busy it would be. She didn't sound very hopeful that it would stay open long term.

Thanks for the reply, but I've tried it now, and I did really like it, too!

Honestly, I had their gyro and it was the worst gyro I've ever had...and it wasn't even close. But I see all these closures as part of ThanksShanghai. With a visit planned at the end of this year, I'm hoping all these budget cuts disappear by summer at least. It's bad enough there's no trains, boats, islands, Big Thunder Ranch BBQ, or F!. But shutting down restaurants....bad form.

I had the beef gyro in July, and while it wasn't the best I've ever had, it was pretty good. The tabouli was excellent, and I bought the gyro on a second day mostly to get the tabouli.

I think it originally closed because they just didn't get enough business. I am sure it will close again unless more people start eating there.

First - a lesson to us all, read the entire post before sending the first text portion to your husband & getting all worked up about it. Then, reading 3 pages later, oops! Still open ;-)

We have eaten here every single trip that I can remember, some trips, more than once. It is hands down, our fave (well, was tied with BTMRRBBQ until that closed) in the parks.

We LOVE this place. Absolutely love it. There's a few reasons why -
1. portions are HUGE for the price - my daughter supplements her pizza from next door with all the rice I get with my dish. (I usually get the chicken skewers) or the gyros (always had pretty tasty gyros!).
2. Pita bread & sauces. The chimichurri sauce is always SUPER DELICIOUS! Lots of garlic, flavorful, mmmmm. The Tzatziki was normally awesome, I think our trip in Feb, it was slightly off flavor, but I would absolutely get it again.
3. You want extra sauces? just ask - they'll give you as many/whatever you want. NEVER been told "that's extra" or "Nope, 1 sauce only."
4. Never a huge line (which is why it probably closes - such an ODD corner of the park)
5. Seating area is LOVELY, I think one of the nicest in the parks. We like to time it for when the band comes and plays.
6. Lots of shade. Enough so that we often pull out sweaters near dusk-dinner time because it is really well covered so well.
7. Convenient bathrooms - never crowded (right next to the grill) - with kids, nice to leave them at table with dad and GASP - go to the women's room BY MYSELF, as in - NO KIDS!
8. Next to the pasta place, for son who only wants to eat pizza or a hot dog, VERY convenient to get 2 meals and sit in the same spot.
9. The Chimichurri sauce. Worth listing twice.
10. It's a whole meal - rice, veggies, pita, meat - more like you would get at a restaurant, rather than just a burger & fries.

I so hope in October when we go back that we don't find it has degraded into low-quality, food that's been sitting around waiting for someone to order it. We expected waiting after we ordered, because it was always freshly grilled.

I agree - TONS of options in the parks, but this one is our mainstay dining preference!

I am soooo counting down the days til I get to enjoy my spicy meatball skewer! 10 short days to go!!

I hope everyone will give this unique place a try and boost their guest counts!

@tlovesdis , is it possible to change the title since people are still thinking it is closed?

I ate here for the first time last weekend. It was very good compared to other park food as far as it not being something greasy or unhealthy. I will continue to eat here and Bengal Barbeque at DL. If anyone know any other healthier stuff like this, please let me know. It seems when I ask about healthy hot meals, people post about stuff like pizza and corn dogs. :crazy2:
