Garden Grill at DCA

I am so bummed. My mom and I had a fantastic lunch there a few years ago. She wasn't able to make it on our last trip. Now we can't go again.

It was always practically empty when I went by it. I'm not surprised.
As for bad pizza, kids will eat pizza whether it's good or bad. That pizza place in Tomorrowland looks horrendous, but it's always full.

I've never tried it because we've always gone in November and it was Viva Navidad menu. We walked by this weekend and I was thinking about tofu & veggie skewers and it was closed! Bummer!

We've eaten at Pizza Port a number of times now and I don't know why people complain about it so much, tbh. The Chicken Fusilli is really quite good as my husband almost always gets it and I've eaten their pizza numerous times. Pizza Hut, now that is horrendous.

I am super annoyed by this. When we were there in February 2015, the menu had be temporarily changed to crap food - burgers/fries/etc. We had been looking forward to the skewers and were disappointed. We're heading back next year and it looks like once again, we won't be getting skewers. So annoying. I think it's getting harder and harder to find much edible at counter service places these days. If you don't like burgers and fried food it's definitely more challenging. Paradise Garden Grill would have been a nice change of pace.

I think I'll email Disneyland about it. I figure it can't hurt. (Probably won't help either but oh well.)

Interesting! We just tried to eat there 2 days ago, and were startled to see the signs telling us to go to Boardwalk instead. My gluten-free (b/c of celiac) DH was left with little choice since we didn't feel like dragging hungry kids to another section of the park, so we went with it. And he actually really liked the Italian Chef Salad he got there! So if you're looking for something different/healthier and are in the area - give that a try. He said he would happily eat that again. Not the same as skewers, but healthy/tasty/not-fried at least.

I will also miss the Garden Grill. Really good, unique food in DCA, and sad to see it go! I wonder what they will replace it with... :sad2:

However I disagree with PP that said good food options in DCA are limited! DH and I particularly like the Pacific Wharf area, we have had good food at Cocina Cucamonga and the bakery thing (don't remember the name) that serves soup in Boudin bread bowls! They are so delicious!! Not to mention the Karl Strauss beer truck there... :drinking1For table service I'm sure you have all heard of the famous Cove Bar (seriously guys, it's worth the wait in line), and can't forget Carthay Circle! :cutie:

Editing to also mention the Corn Dog castle!! OMG guys, amazing corn dogs. You will not be disappointed. Honestly, DH and I are annual passholders and I don't even know where you would go in DCA to find a burger!! OK that's it :rolleyes1

This is disappointing. Although I didn't like the chicken skewer (they used dark meat, ugh), I thought the steak skewer platter was quite good.

On a related note, Bengal BBQ is now using dark chicken meat too. That makes me mad, because they used to be all breast meat and now I won't eat them anymore, but I love that polynesian sauce! Cutbacks, I guess.

The only counter service I've tired and liked at DCA in recent years....soup at Pacific Wharf and a salad at Broadwalk Pizza. I can't think of anything else I've liked. When you're in the parks for 5 full days...it gets tricky finding things.

Disneyland also got rid of something I liked - cinnamon roll french toast. Sad face.

Have you tried Earl of Sandwich in DTD? They make really good sandwiches and salads and their mac and cheese is delicious! The prices are great too, $6.99 for a good sized sandwich. On our DCA days we always head out and have lunch there! Well not always, we like soup in the breadbowl too!!! :)

No, I haven't. We honestly don't venture out of the parks during the day except to head to our hotel (on Harbor) for some down-time for our toddler. I'll keep that in mind for next time though. Thanks!

Dark meat is a plus for me, more flavour!

I do eat dark meat, but the two skewers I got (one at Bengal, one at Garden Grill) were SUCH low quality chicken they were just gross. Stringy, full of connective tissue, rubbery. Blech!

I can handle lean thigh meat and really well cooked chicken legs, but these were inedible.

sounds more like poor cooking too

We used to like the pizza place until they changed the pizza. I wonder if closing the Garden Grill is part of their continuing lower food quality. C'mon Disney, bring back the fried tomato sandwich and the flat bread pizzas and all the other good stuff you have removed for yucky burgers and bad pizza.

You can get a Fried Green Tomato sandwich at Café Orleans now.
