I have not read all the replies so I may be repeating something. Gardasil's PRIMARY use is to stop young women from getting the type of HPV that causes cervical cancer which can be a killer. HPV infection alone (genital warts) is not going to kill you.

It is estimated that approx 70% of the population have HPV. Many are males and don't know it!! You may think you know your partner but unless you are both virgins there is always a chance.

The vaccine may have it's side effects but it's better than cancer! Get prtotected!

My daughter has had two of the injections and is scheduled for the third this summer. No side effects at the time of the injections. My OB/GYN and pediatrician both urged me to get her vaccinated. I did a lot of my own research as well as reading the materials that they both gave me, talked it over with my daughter (she's 15), and we decided that she'd get the shots. She's not a guinea pig, as some of you have implied. Making an informed decision to have the shots deserves the same respect that choosing not to does.

I accept your appologies and I too "could" resent the fact that you are implying that by getting my daughter vaccinated I am putting her at risk. I trust my doctor enough to feel that if she is getting her own children vaccinated then there must be enough known.

I honestly didn't mean to imply that at all.I'm sorry if it came across like that. I think we are all parents who want to do right by their kids and I think discussions like this are helpful for that. Reading other peoples opinions and experiences is very helpful and often brings up things I wouldn't know about.It's funny that you mention your doctor because a big part of my decision to not get the shots is my pediatrician. We have daughters the same ages and he has decided to wait a few more years for more research.So, we both came to different decisions by the same methods, lol.
