All this talk about film being ruined in checked luggage got me thinking about the Nintendo game cartridges my children are planning on bringing to enjoy at HIFS. I’m not sure if the x-ray machine will have any affect on the games. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I doubt that they would get damaged by the machinery, but I really don't think I'd pack game cartridges in unlocked checked baggage. Too high a theft risk.

Those things are a bit pricey, and I imagine that they might not make it all the way to your destination. Put them in the carryons.

the only thing affected by xray is photo film. Video tapes, digital medium, CD, DVD's etc. are safe.
I would however, not pack anything valuable in checked luggage.

What about disposable cameras? Would you put those in your carry-on?

TIA!

I’m not really concerned about the value of these games. They are for Nintendo 64 so none are worth more then $15.00, However I think I will put them in my DS carry-on just in case.:teeth:

Yes, because, disposable cameras have film in them.

Right.

I just wasn't sure if because they are enclosed in a camera if they would be OK in our checked luggage. We have several and I didn't know if I would need to carry them all on the plane with us.

Thanks though (for making me feel dumb!),

The intent was not to make you feel dumb, not in the least. The intent was to tell you anything with film should not go into checked luggage as the xrays (which have NO problem going through plastic) will ruin film, exposed or unexposed.
