FYI - The New Gates at the Parking Lot and Kennel

I'm gonna turn this bus around if you two, Des1954 & Devores, don't stop bickering.
You know what happens when a parent says that to the kids, they both turn on the parent. Go ahead, I can take it.

As the All-Being Master Of Time, Space, and Dimension I can say with all authority that DES1954 is a rock star of the highest level.

I can understand Deb's point, I changed my posting from locals to non-resort guests. There is good and bad everyplace and saying the locals is not a fair assesment. As Deb said we do use the fort sometimes without being resort guests, I for one feel that I give the fort enought money. Does that make it right? I don't know. I don't know the politicaly correct term to call the people that are invading the fort for the free use of the pool. They are rude, but there are rude people all over the place. I guess you can say that they aren't camping people who are mostly friendly. We were at the pool and the life guards were trying to tell them to go down the slide the right way and no one would listen, I don't know why they didn't throw these kids out (about 17 - 19 years old)
I really do think they should do some sort of armbands, that would keep up from going for the eveing, but I think in the long run it would keep people out that shouldn't be there.

I've never been to Typhoon Lagoon, or any Disney waterpark. Might have to correct that next summer.

Going back to the challenged child taking toys. He was an older child, and depending on what his issues are he may have well known he was stealing. We have an autistic son who is turning 16 in 2 months. He was caught stealing chicken strips from a buffet in a grocery store. Apparently he'd been doing this on every visit but it had gone unnoticed because he'd say he needed to go to the bathroom & the buffet was on the way. He'd stuff his pockets with the chicken & then eat it in the hallway leading to the bathrooms. The woman working the deli said he always does it but she just didn't want to stir things up & because he's challenged it really wasn't stealing. Well that certainly isn't the way we look at things. He was stealing. He knew he was stealing. He tried to hide it. He did well at hiding it. This has nothing to do with thefts at FW, but just wanted to point out that kids steal. And if someone really wants to steal out there, just camp out there & go about your 'business' late at night (like 3 or 4 am).

I want to apologize to all Disboarders in general regarding my nasty posts to Devores. Although I love to kid and have fun on this board, I really do try to refrain from blatant arguments. I'm sorry I disturbed the peace and harmony. I deleted the posts made by "Evil Debbie".

Can we all join hands and sing Kum-bah-yah, now?

Debbie, it just hit a sensitive cord with you, we all have those moments!!! I do understand your point.

:lmao: It's that full moon that's been hovering over the boards this past week. AAHHH....OOOOHHHH!!!! (My best effort at a howl.) :rotfl:

I didn't know you had a son on the spectrum. We do too. When dealing with the issue of "whether or not he knows better", his applied behavioral therapist explained that usually kids challenged with autism understand that you don't want them to do something, but not in a moral right or wrong sense. They know what they want to do and that someone is going to try to stop them. Therefore, they hurry up and do it before they can be stopped (that's my DS5) or try to hide it. I understand that this is a generalization and many autistic or otherwise challenged kids DO understand right and wrong, but I just thought I'd chime in with our ABT's viewpoint. :thumbsup2

FWIW....my DS has taken things that don't belong to him and he's not even from Florida!!! :rotfl:

I am not trying to inflame, or attack anyone or anything with this post. It is only an informational post that addresses the theft of my charger last month:

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way. My charger was stolen by a person that lives in Orlando. I know this because when we got home, I looked on EBAY and guess what? There it was, my charger, being sold by a seller in guess where ? Orlando. The Orange county sheriff's could not do anything because I didn't have my serial number written down (yes,I am an idiot). But the picture on EBAY matched my charger right down to the dent in the case and the rust spots on the case. (compared to a recent picture of my cart). Being a retired Sheriff's Deputy, I know that their hands are tied. There wasn't enough evidence for any charges. But make no mistake about it, (in my case) I am convinced my charger was stolen by a local thief, not staying at a Disney resort. I also am convinced that Disney's lack of Security at Fort Wilderness contributed to the theft. The local criminal element (NOT ALL OF THE LOCALS,JUST THE CRIMINALS) know that the Security at the Fort is a non-existent joke. And they take full advantage of it.But I also know that the crime would not have happened if I had secured my charger to my cart, as well.

I know that many of you have said that crime happens everywhere. That is true. But when I am paying up to 120 dollars a night for a concrete pad and cable tv, I expect at least "some" enhanced security and safety.

Did you happen to send the guy on ebay a message asking how he came to be in possession of stolen goods? :confused3 Send us the link and we can hound him!

Even though you are retired lawman, please don't beat yourself up for not writing down the serial # for your charger. I mean seriously - even though we all know we should do that, how many of us actually do?

Yes, the Fort has more potential for "locals" to come in and do some serious damage in theft and vandalism. I feel the "guard" is just a deterrent that keeps honest people honest, and nothing more. If someone has no moral compass to begin with, a guard isn't going to change that. That's why I suggested that a real guard station be built beyond the parking lot to assure only Fort guests enter the Fort via their vehicles.

If I had some serious $$$, I would build a campground near enough to FtW that the Fort Fiends had alternatives. It would be very easy to recreate another Fort. Only mine would have a food court and a Tiki Bar! Kungaloosh for everyone!!

Here's something better that I just remembered I'd posted on the cruising board, but not this one!

I received a letter this week about a possible compromised credit card info that was illegally obtained at two resorts by..... a cast member! :scared1: It DID apply to me as I stayed at both of the resorts that this happened at during those 3 months. Back in February we noticed unusual activity (within a day of it happening) and called the credit card company to get different card numbers. the company ate the cost of the fraudulent charges. Now we understand how and where the info was taken from. I called Disney & the credit card company today. Because the charges were taken off and this didn't really impact us nothing will be done at this point, except to notify the Sheriff's office & the State Attorney office. oh, the cast member did a plea deal so it doesn't matter how many of us 'potential' victims there are, she won't get any further punishment.

so yes, sometimes the locals steal, sometimes the employees steal, but usually the locals & the employees are just really nice folks!! :)

Well don't that beat all. I tell ya what, there's some real POS' on this earth. You'd think the thief would wait a while. I hope you sent the seller a nice message.

When can I book?!?!

I'll do the website for you and we can have a reservation system that actually WORKS!

OK, pass the hat, let's get this ball rolling...

(ah, ain't dreamin' fun?)

Not to go off topic re: "Fort Wilderness 2" or too, but just a word on the original topic, the new gate. Went to the Fort today and the new gate was on the ground on the side of the road. Ooops, it wasn't me. Went back a second time and it was fixed.
