We were at the Camping World in Bolingbrook, IL today and the employees there were told yesterday that their store would be closing this Saturday. Some Christmas present for them.

The on-line and catalogue stores are not closing and I am not sure if any other branches are affected (Island Lake, IL is not). Just passing along some bad news during this poor economic time.

Wow. Nothing like a little advance notice!! :sad2: My heart goes out to the employees.

That's too bad. What terrible timing for the employees. That's the Camping World store we go to (although we usually order on line). Does Island Lake have an actual store, or is it just one of those RV dealer affiliations? Someone was just mentioning to us at the Fort last week that CW was in real trouble - now I wonder if there's something to it.

One of the Camping World's near us closed a month or so ago. It was there one weekend when we went to look at RVs and then a few weeks later, my husband went back up there and everything was gone!

The dealership I work for has cut thier staff in half. They went from 8 techs. to 3. I talked to one of the sales people he said he sold 3 units last month.

Sorry to hear about the CW at Bolingbrook. We usually went to that one. Oh well guess we will be going to the one in Ft Myers more when we come down every year.

Quite a few CW have closed recently especially those that were co located with a RV dealer. My understanding is that CW wants to own both the RV dealership and the store probably due to their long term business plan. I've been to the Bolingbrook, IL store several times over the years and could be mistakened, but didn't think they had a co-located RV dealership there.:confused3

We just returned from WDW and the Camping World near FW looks like it is closed also. They were open in January because we bought parts there and looked at some of the new units they had. Last week the parking lot was empty and the sign said repair and rentals.:confused3

I was at this camping world yesterday and it was open. Why is it that your presidents club membership always expired last month when you visit camping world?:confused3

They just bought into the Nascar truck series as the title sponsor after Craftsman bowed out 14 years into it. I suspect it wasnt cheap and they are frequently sponsor of trucks in that series as well as car(s) in the Nationwide series. Although the economy tanked worse than anyone thought, it seems to me that they are going through a restructure rather than a total shutdown.
You hate to hear more stories about businesses closing or laying off, so many people having to deal with this lately.

I forgot it's going to be the CW Truck Series next year. Lot's of changes in the racing series due to money. Nascar was a cash cow earlier this decade but it seems like they're taking a hit. I read on Nascar.com that Jeff Gordon said he will take a pay cut so his team can be competitive. He already has millions so what the heck.

Back to the original topic, CW has stores placed in areas that people who are traveling frequent. Most are on interstates and the one in Orlando was kinda off the beaten path. The thing that kills me is how these chains like wal-mart, walgreens and cvs have stores on every corner. Now that things are tight they are hurting. Well I say shame on them for the greed of having to make every nickel they can get their hands on. I'm all for free enterprise but look at the amount of stores they have within a couple miles of each other. I have 3 Walgreens within a 1.5 mile radius of my house. That is a lot of power and waste just so they can make sure a competitor doesn't get any scraps. What's really bad is when a store closes and they desert a mall and move a few blocks away to a new center. I'm totally off topic and I apologize. It just makes me mad to see a huge co. come in and kill the mom and pops places then close shop leaving a bldg. for vagrants and druggies.

The company I work for went from 30 employees on Friday to 4 and there is talks of more cut backs. I still have my job just have to wait and see for how long.

I know what you mean I don't know if the rv dealer I work for will call me back in the spring or not. If the owner wasn't a weathy person anyway I don't think they would weather this.

Unfortunately this is a sign of he times. Camping World in Buffalo closed recently.

they do the same thing up here with stores Donnie, right now they are putting a Walgreens or Rite aid at every corner, a while back it was Builders square and Home depot (we know who won that one) for a while it was quickie oil changes, by my house its new banks. They oversaturate the market and then the weak ones fall off over the next few years. All the while the stores that didnt make it sit vacant for years and years because the retail strip malls are overbuilt.

We have a small hardware in the town I live in and I make it a point to go there whenever I can just to support them, they are nice people and they really know their hardware and you know I am not easily impressed... :lmao:

I got a post card yesterday in regard to the Bolingbrook location. It says that they have moved to Island Lake Illinois which is near the Wisconsin border but the thing is that there was a store there to begin with. Sounds like they combined both stores into one.
