If you're planning on traveling down I-75 to get to FW after May 1 just wanted you to know that they will be shutting down part of I-40 for the next 14 months to speed up the never ending construction projects.
Here is the link for info on the project:
http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/smartfix/jwp/
Here is the map of what will actually be closed:
http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/smartfix/jwp/map/ClosureMap.pdf
As you are probably aware, if you have ever driven through the area, I-75 and I-40 criss-cross each other in Knoxville.
I don't know if the map makes it totally clear but I-40 in will be shut down in both directions just east of I-275. Technically this probably won't even be part of your route but it will increase your overall traffic. They estimate that 40,000 vehicles travel through that section of I-40 each day (most of it is not local traffic) and those folks will have to be re-routed to I-640 or I-275.
I don't think it's going to cause stand stills by any means, but wanted you to know it may be a little more congested. If you will be traveling I-40 it looks like the detour signs will be really obvious and clear for you.
If you'd like I can give you an update of how traffic is flowing after it's been shut down for a few days.
The good news is they're getting closer and closer to building the "beltway" that will start north of Knoxville on I-75 and will end right around where I-75S splits off from I-40 again. So, by "they're getting closer and closer" what I mean is that means it will only be another 15 years or so before we see that project get started.
