I was wondering just what happens when they evacuate FW. Do they just come and tell you to leave, or is there some oranized plan. Seems like all those campers heading for the gate would be a real mess.

Where do they tell you to go ... to the overflow lot ????

We have a winter house in Polk City, so we would just head home, but most are not that fortunate.

Just curious ...

John

What I have read is they have you park at PO and then you get a room there.

We were evacuated for Charley. They left us a voicemail and they also left off a note on our door.

It was a real mess having everyone leave pretty much the same time.

They sent everyone to Port Orleans. The parking lot looked like an RV park.

What happens with the folks in the cabins? Do they stay there or are they put up elsewhere?

Cabins are evacuated too.

Doing the single-digit dance and watching the weather!!!:earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

campingcorgi, do you know where (value, mod, deluxe, home-away-from-home)? Just wondering if we'd have comparable accommodations.

I think I heard that the cabin people were sent to POR like the campers for Charley, but that may have been because of availability. If they try to send you to a place that doesn't compare $wise just let them know that you'd rather go to another place. They'll usually try to work with you.

Oh, yeah, and good luck on your trip, too! Maybe Jeanne will fizzle or get lost!!!

Thanks. Not really a $ issue but more of a space + having refrigerator issue. Driving down tomorrow. Planning on bringing all perishable & non-perishable food items down with us so that we don't have to worry about finding empty shelves when we get there. Having milk is a must with 2 DDs. Also having the separate bedroom is nice but I guess not a must.

I read on another forum that people staying in the cabins were sent to OKW.

Hey campingcorgi.
Wish i was going with you.
When you are in FW can you get some pictures so we can
see all the damage?

Disney called tonight. We had the option of postoning our vacation or moving to OKW. We're going to OKW ... really bummed. I was so looking forward to experiencing Ft. Wilderness for the first time. I had even stopped at the store today & picked up everything for smores.

Oh well! I can't complain too much ... we're off to OKW at 6:00 tomorrow morning.

The cabins are nicer for the rustic location, but the 1 bedroom at OKW (if that is where they are putting you up) will be very roomy and got to love that tub.

Have a great time, we will be back over at FW next weekend providing the storms don't interfere again.

John

Sure, we'll take photos! I'm just hoping there's not much damage left (or added!) to photograph!!

This sure has been a strange season for Disney and Florida! I hope it's just an abberation cause I'm moving to Florida next summer!

Just talked to a neighbor in Polk City, and she said the local news said they were evacuating FW again.

Good luck you guys ... hang in there ...

This has to stop sometime.

John

OKW wasn't so bad after all. I was very disappointed that we missed experiencing FW for the first time, but we still had a great time and loved the location of OKW. I inquired when we checked in if we'd be moved back to FW and was told that if it opened not too far in to our stay that we may be given the option to move. I never inquired again ... just too much trouble to pack up and move with 2 little ones. Besides we were very satisified with our 1 bedroom villa at OKW.
