FW and using your car?

Out of curiosity,
Do i understand correctly that you can't use your car around FW unless you are coming or leaving the resort? Can you not drive your own car up to the buses and then take the bus from there to Epcot, etc.? Isn't there a parking lot there?

I'm assuming you could also drive your own car to the parks to avoid the buses all together? (In other words, when they mean no driving unless you are leaving the resort, they are not implying only when you check out?)

So to get to the FW restaurants, pools etc you have to either walk or take an internal bus?

I saw you can rent carts, but that seems expensive. How much are the bike rentals and can you rent them by the week?

Yes, you can drive to the parks from FW. We usually drive to all the parks except MK, we use the boat to MK. There are a few short term parking spots by the Meadow Trading Post to pick up groceries, but there are no other parking areas inside FW other than at your site. It doesn't seem worth it to me to park at the lot at the entrance to FW to catch the bus, and besides I think some of the park buses go from the Settlement area not the outpost.

Yes, to get to the pools, restaurant, etc, you have to walk, bus, bike, or take a golf cart. We never rent golf carts because of the expense. We have taken our bikes, and also requrest a centrally located camp site so we can walk to the marina, pools, etc. There is a smaller pool near the cabins also.
