Future Ship Names

Some great names, but based on industry and sharholders do not see new ships. MAGIC WONDER Good for 15 more years. They do not fill ships now 7 out of 12 months.

Remember Micheal Eisner is no longer there because of the stockholders demand for better dividends.

Too many staterooms coming online in the next three years. Disney has limited clientell. Most cruisers do not want all the kids and do not want to pay for Mickey.

Please take your Mickey ears off when it comes to P & L. I love DCL but even I will be trying other Cruise Line who have some outstanding ships and people running them. DGC are going to be 17 & 13 next cruise of Fantasy so that comes to and end.

My two DD's (Now ages 15 and 11) and I have speculated on this VERY TOPIC for a few years. We came up (with all due props to Silverfox 97):

Disney Wish

and

Disney Believe

As a play on the Wonder and a tie in to one of Disney's new acquisitions, how about the Disney Marvel. And I also like the Disney Imagination.

i also don't see more than 4 ships. DCL caters to families with kids, and they have trouble filling their ships when kids are in school.

My son and I had this conversation a few months ago about what Disney might call any new ships. We also though Imagination & Adventure would be suitable choices. We had a third but we can't remember what it was, so obviously not a good name :rotfl:

Addiction and Obsession.
Because thats what happens to you when you cruise DCL.:lmao:

Couldn't have said it better myself!! :rotfl2:

Yes fully aware of that,

Well they can last long, but often the first owner sells them on to another cruise line, to modernise the fleet, Magic has started to have ongoing issues that DryDock didn't solve.

The lead in time will be long.design / order wait list production.

Yes more life in them, but can they compete with the new cruise ships of other lines?

I think they can, yes. The Magic underwent not just a dry dock, but a complete reimagining. I can't imagine it would already have issues that big- Disney tends to take care of it's product. But that's just my two cents :)

Have you sailed on the Magic before her dry dock AND after? I'm guessing you did not. I did. Don't even want to open the can of worms, but I can implicitly tell you that there were issues before dry dock that weren't even addressed during dry dock (important things like toilets, etc). Disney is NOT taking care of her as she should be. Take a look at the adult pool area, the Promenade Lounge, and a bunch of the staterooms (to name a few).

I still love the Magic. I expect her to be showing her age. I've got 3 cruises booked on her. Your comment is another example of how Disney press works - you assume by the marketing that the ship was 'completely reimagined,' and you are wrong, but that is exactly what they expect you to think.

Progress (DS 18 suggested that :)) and Tomorrow

HI Silver, we usually agree but on this one, not so much!

The industry word on the toilet issues after drydock was really in a word ...*sabotage*................seems some one(most likely a worker) dumped a hardening material in the waste lines and it spread out, and plugged up or at least partially plugged up the line is various areas, that is why it took a few weeks to locate all the problem areas and clear out the drains.

Not Disney fault, but still thier responsibility to take care of. I believe where they dropped the ball was in not keeping a few cabins empty so as the problem showed up all the guests could be moved to other cabins.

As far as the ship itself and all DCL vessels, they are known to be very well kept.

I will not debate that a few guests areas still need some more work in places, EI the adult pool as you noted, comes to mind.

They (Classics) are still wonderful ships.

I believe the classic ships have 10 years more in the US trade and then they may be sent off to the far east or permanently in Europe.

Just MHO

Lighten up Francis, (if you haven't seen Stripes you won't get that), she was just expressing her opinion. You don't have to be so rude, a simple "In my opinion......" would have sufficed.

Overall, yes, they are indeed well kept up - I'm just debating the person thinking the ship was completely redone, as the company would like most to think (and was not the case). I agree they are wonderful ships, in fact, we have 3 cruises booked on the Magic and one on the Wonder :)

I read your reply and it doesn't look like we disagree at all - you just have a cause for the ongoing toilet issues, but you do agree it should be taken care of..... Regardless, nice to converse with you Tonka!

Love Stripes ;)

It's hard when people comment about things they know nothing about when those of us with experience know the real deal, so if I want to defend my position, I will. It's not my 'opinion,' it's what actually happened. Regardless, you are right - I should lighten up. I'm lucky to be a frequent cruiser. It's frustrating when others assume that because it's Disney, it's perfect.....

To quote " Iger reaffirmed his previous statement that the focus at Disney Cruise Line is on new and expanded itineraries, and was also quick to scuttle any notion that Disney Cruise Line would commission any new ships in the short term." (thank you to DCLblog).

Last I checked nobody adds a cruise ship in the 'short' term. Found Iger's use of that wording quite interesting when reading the details of the shareholder meeting. It isn't like you can go down to your local dealership and pick a cruise ship off the lot. The lead time is measured in years, especially with a new build/design. Meyer Werft is booked solid through 2017 with orders for Royal and NCL so you likely aren't getting anything out of them to 2018 anyway. 2018 definitely qualifies as mid-term in most of the business planning I deal with.
