I am very new to doing this posts and you have likely had this question a million times, but I thought it would be neat to ask you guys were would you like to see a new DVC resort located at WDW? I personally would love to see a villa section for DVC members at the Grand Floridian since this is my favorite resort, I think it would be nice to have a DVC resort on the monorail.A villa section at the Polynesian would be kinda nice as well. What are all of your thoughts?

Hi Brando and welcome to the boards.

The next DVC resort, currently under construction, is Disney's Saratoga Springs and Spa resort which will be at the old Disney Institute site. It is scheduled to open in 2004.

The only other DVC plan announced was for the Eagle Pines resort. This was originally announced quite some time ago, but there hasn't been much news on it lately. DVC seems to have either postponed this or else slowed it way down.

By the time these resorts are built and sold, it could easily be pushing 2010. Adding other resorts such as at the GF could easily go to 2010 also. That leaves only 32 years to new buyers compared to the original 50 years.

There's always speculation of what DVC will do down the road, with thoughts of a new DVC II with a new 50 year plan.

Sites at both GV and the Poly would be nice. The way BCV is selling and the popularity of BWV may give DVC some more thoughts about doing another site connected to one of those hotels.

I would like to see The Yacht Club and Boardwalk Inn taken over for DVC.

Not a lot of room at the Poly or the GF to build new. They kind of butt up against the golf course/MK/Service areas. (Course that didn't stop the BCV development).

A lot of people would like to see Villas at AK - but you aren't going to see much building near that savannah, Disney took to big a PR hit on the animals dying and aren't going to risk major construction near the giraffees.

I would buy at least 500 points if DVC built Poly Villas. I would also buy AKL Villas.

My home resort is VWL, and I really enjoy the resorts that lend themselves to the heavier themeing.

there was a rumor that the wings at the Contemporary were going to worn down and a new DVC would be placed there instead - so we (me included) would quit complaining about no DVC on the monrail - but I think that would largely depend upon how the sales go on the new DVC.

I don't think that a DVC would never be added to either the Poly or the GF - but maybe the Cont,

No you don't really want the BW - then your member dues would go up - you would be paying for all the services - right now - the BWV split the fees with the BWI. Room services not to mention valet parking cost - someone has to paid - even if they are not used.

I would love to see DVC at AKL. We stayed there a few months ago and were blown away. My DS could not stop talking about the animals.

I heard the rumor about the Contemporary also. Not a big fan of the Contemporary but would like the access to the monorail.

I would like to see a DVC resort at Disneyland. We went there 2 years ago and enjoyed the feature of walking everywhere, not needing a bus or car. Of course WDW is better in my opinion but I would like the option.

I doubt we'll be seeing the DVC at the GF -- the rooms are almost always sold out, and fetch a very high premium. They're making too much money renting 'em out! And there really isn't room to build more wings and maintain the resort's ambiance.

I think it's more likely you'll see them at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, where there is more wide open space and room to spread out.

And wouldn't it be a GREAT idea if they put something at Disneyland? Either as a wing of the Grand Californian, or as a special, stand-alone resort? I remember reading once that Disney had some property along the Pacific, near Long Beach, that they were planning for just such a purpose (presumably with motorcoach transportation to the DL) but I don't know if that's still in the works or not.

spiceycat....I'm sure this is a typo and you meant to say "torn down"....but then I thought about it and figured that what you typed is appropriate too! ;)

I think that the Saratoga Springs may hail a new DVC strategy for Disney. Take an area that is not performing well. Bulldoze it or add to it for theming and turn it into a DVC property. If SSR goes well, this could be a good strategy.

Under that scenario, putting DVC onto the Contemporary property could make a lot of sense. That property needs some sort of revitalization desparately....it's on the monorail and should command premium pricing compared to what it's getting now.

Always fun to speculate!:)

Greg K:

At one time there was a plan for a DVC at Newport Beach. It was never built, and the site was sold to Marriott. It is now the Marriott Newport Beach Villas ( a Marriott Vacation Club property).

I know that it is unlikely because of the reasons stated above, but I would by points at AKL in a heartbeat! It is the only non-DVC resort that I don't mind using points for, at least for a night or two. I can only imagine how beautiful a 2 BR, with a savannah view, would be!

My guess would be that if they are going to do a DVC property on the monorail, the wing area of the Contemporary would be the place to do it. I am just not sure how they'd theme it...would it be very "Jetson" like, or would they sort of pretend it's not connected to the Contemporary and do something different. It would seem to me that the wing area over there is sort of separated but accessible, if you know what I mean.

I would love a DVC at the Contemporary. It does seem the most likely choice for a monorail resort. it's fun to dream...

Based on responses to a thread several months ago, Polynesian Villas would sell out as fast as they could take the orders, strictly from resales at $100/pt.

That doesn't mean Disney will do it, or even that it's a good idea. But we can dream!

I'll bet there is just as much land between Poly and GF as there was for BCV. If not, they could move the Wedding Pavilion.

If we could only get a monrail dvc resort. DVC knows that they are in the money if they want. Eagle Pines the golfers resort, Saratoga Springs the laid back spa resort or a resort called Grand Polynesian Resort!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay i go with number three...........

Disney has quite a bit of real estate between the TTC and the Contemporary. Only the monorail tracks and the roadway to the Contemporary run through that pine grove area now. The revised MK master plan from the time the GF was built showed a "future" resort in that area to complete the "walkway around the lagoon".

Maybe if we wish real hard the our DVC wishes will come true and they'll build it there !!

We were able to sit up front in the monorail several times during our last trip. I asked each time about the vacant land below the monorail. One CM told me that they were in the planning stages of building something there right before 9/11 but put it on hold after that. Another CM that I asked told me the land was too wet down there to build on.

I would also love to see a DVC at the Poly. This would be wonderful, VWL and a DVC resort at the Poly for MK and BCV and BWV for Epcot & MGM! It could not get much better than that!!!
