Funny things that have happened to you at the Fort

In December 06 in Loop 2000 somebody had one of those projecter things hooked up to a laptop showing CARS in their campsite.

I wrote about that in my December trip report. It was our surreal drive-thru of the loop where everyone was out playing, running, skating, skateboarding walking with plates of food, and that big screen at the site off to the right half way down from the entrance. It reminded me of the neighborhoods of the 50's that I've read about where there were no fences in the back yards and kids roamed from house to house (Levittown, Pa?). I've just realized what made it seem weird might be that usually no one is at their campsite when we're at the fort, we see traffic in the morning and night but this Sunday afternoon it seemed like everyone was home.

About funniest things that happened to us: the only thing we can offer up is that my son thinks its hilarious that he almost gagged to death on a pizza slice at Crockett's Tavern (starving to death, didn't chew that first bite well and the cheese stayed attached to the pizza as it went down his throat.) The lady above us was horrified as she watched us run out of the room, but he was OK.

Years ago I was in the TT cooking dinner. My mother was sitting outside under the awning. Suddenly she started screaming! We all ran out just in time to see an armadillo walking off into the bushes. She had never seen one before and was absolutely terrified of it.

Well there was the time when we were driving on the golf cart (this was pre windshield days) near one of the canals. A frog jumped from somewhere and landed on our then 6 year old DS. He freaked out so bad! DH and I were trying so hard not to laugh.

There is also the time we had one of those little lizards inside the camper. I freaked out getting DH and the boys in to catch it because I didn't want it in my bed. That was hysterical watching them chase this thing around the camper.

Oh, the memories...

Now....anything else funny happen to anybody while camping?

Well, not funny but unusual. DW broke her foot in 2001 at FW. Had to drag her around all the parks in a wheel chair. We were staying at SOG and stopped over to DSis RV at the Fort. Now that I think of it that wasn't funny, but I've had a few beers and ........

Mr. Man!!! I've only seen one other camper with a projector screen showing Disney movies. It was a family camped in the 1300 loop back in February 04. Was that you????

No, it wasn't us. We were at FW for this first time in early May 2004 but have brought the projector with on each trip since then. I am looking forward to the next trip because I splurged and picked up a nice DLP projector. Now, all I need is a 12ft screen (I mean 8ft.....why it is a full 4 feet smaller).......

I have noticed that the projector & screen makes for a great ice-breaker w/our camping neighbors (especially if they have small children). We never have a shortage of visitors at our site. It does put a bit of pressure on the beer supply at times..... But this is easily replenished.

We still do the Meadows campfire but like having our private theater (that way we can always pick the movie).

Years ago, we let our DS back the golf cart from the driveway into the loop. He was under age (about 13) We did not let him drive - just back out. He was nervous and DH was intimidating him by his advice. It was a "had to be there" to see how funny the whole thing was. He made several attempts - I never knew there were so many ways to back up incorrectly. We absolutely get hysterical every time we watch the tape.

This November, DH and are are going to reinact the scene and play it for DS at Christmas. He is now 24 - and thankfully a good driver. I hope he appreciates our sick humor.
