Let's start a thread of funny things that have happened to you at FW!

We always string up a line between 2 trees, and hang our wet towels on them after showering.

One morning, DH got up early and grabbed his towel off the line to go & take his shower. Well, overnight a little bat had made his home under the towel! DH got a face full of bat!! And what made it even funnier, is that he is deathly afraid of bats! LOL! He can take anything else -- but not bats!

I thought he was going to keel over right there on the spot! :rotfl2:

So, now I'm in charge of taking the towels off the line every morning. :lmao:

What funny memories do you have?

:thumbsup2

One afternoon we were riding our bikes back from the pool, and I decided to ride my bike onto the site as I was going to park it beside the picnic table. Well, I was distracted by a cute dog walking by (300 loop) and drove head first into the arm of the awning on the camper! OUCH! :headache:

I have a hard head so I only had a little bump....but my pride was bruised for the rest of the trip!

It's funny now when my husband and I talk about it....I would actually love to see it replayed on video. Who knows maybe I am floating around on YouTube somewhere! :happytv:

One of my first camping trips at Ft. Wilderness, a friend and myself were riding ECVs back from the Outpost bus stop back to our campground. (We use them like golf carts around Ft. Wilderness). My batteries were going dead, so my friend was pushing my ECV with hers. Well hers slipped off of mine and we both went skidding off of the sidewalk and we ended up on our sides sliding down a slight slope in the pine needles. After realizing we weren't hurt, we both just sat there and were laughing like crazy. We managed to get the scooters back on the sidewalk, and gave up on mine, pulled the freewheel and walked back to the campsite.

HOWDY!

My morning ritual at FW includes taking Mickey the Wonder Beagle over to the kennels. He gets into the routine, jumping into the truck, looking out the window as we go over, pulling at the leash to get in to see his buddy, the older lady who works there and always has a morning biscuit for him. One morning there was an early line up to buy haunted hayride tickets. I guess the first guy in line thought I was trying to get ahead of him (let's see, I have a dog and am heading toward a kennel - DUH) so he blocked the door. This guy was huge - not fat, but obviously worked out and enjoys a good steak or two each meal. He was standing, legs apart, enormous arms folded, glaring at Mickey. Now Mickey is usually pretty mellow, but there was no way this guy was going to keep him from his buddy and the biscuit, so he got up to the guy, looked him in the eye, showed his teeth and let out a growl I have never heard from that animal before or since, without breaking stride. The guy moved FAST out of the way, amidst the enthusiastic laughter of his family and everyone else in line.

Well, there was the time when I was about 3 years old, and my parents were all sitting with their friends playing cards or something. Next thing they knew, I had somehow gotten into the golf cart, turned the key, pressed the gas, and ran the golf cart straight into a tree.

Probably scary as crap back then, but funny now :)

Like alot of others this wasnt funny at the time but it makes me laugh now.
Background information:
Husband is fast approaching the big 6 -0....has had a knee replacement....and arthritis in general makes him slow and stiff at times. (Yikes! its a good thing HE doesnt read the Dis. He'd kill me for saying that )
We use our bikes for getting around the fort. Because of the above list, it is difficult for him to get on and off of the bike.

We all know how dark some of the loops can be at night, right? Well, this night was at dusk...it was pretty much turning into pitch black and we are almost back to our campsite when.....WHAMMMMM Husband ran right into the recycle bin next to our driveway. I was behind him and the only thing I could make out in the dark was the reflective strip on the heels of his athletic shoes as he flipped over the handlebars. Thankfully he landed in a nice thick bed of pine needles and was ok beyond a very bruised ego.

Must have for next trip: Battery powered headlights for the bikes!:lmao:

We were at FW March 2007 for Spring Break. My family and my sister's family both stayed onsite & one of our brothers stayed offsite (the traitor)....

His family visited us at FW for an evening festivities; BBQ, adult beverage sippin', campfire (covered of course), fireworks oh my.....

We sat at our campsite after dark watching my brother (the offsite one you may recall), try to find our MH on his return from a visit to the Comfort Station.

He searched for a while, then shook his head, threw his hands up in the air, went to the closest MH (which was directly across from us) and walked RIGHT in the door. It was the wrong MH of course. We heard a dog bark from inside the MH & my brother came boiling out the door. The dog did not follow (luckily).

Once we stopped our convulsive laughing, we walked over to the MH my brother violated and made sure they were ok with things, which they were.

It does get dark in the loops at night, But I never did get an explanation from my brother why he didn't at least call for us. Also, our site was conspicuous, as we were the only site around with a projector/screen set up outside showing Disney movies (although no Chip n Dale at our site.......)

hehehe

When we were at the fort in May I went out early in the morning to move our golf cart. I was still sleepy so I hit the gas instead of the brake. The golf cart hit the awning of the rv and bent it, it then hit the picnic table and pushed it a few feet. The golf cart was also scratched up. The funny thing is my husband was in bathroom and when I hit the rv and it shook the whole thing. He came running out of the bathroom having no idea what had happened. The only truely funny thing then was the look on his face. I can laugh about it now. Thank goodness it was our golf cart and not a rental.

In January 1982 DH & I took our pop-up to the Fort for a week. January in Florida is one of those months that can be pleasantly warm or a bone-freezer! This particular January it was C-O-L-D! (Brrrr). I insisted on bringing the portable electric heater for the pop-up - DH called me a wuss! I did what any good wife would do... I slept in my sweat-suit, closest to the heater & shoved DH to the outside of the bed closest to the canvas!!! (He sleeps in his skivvies). The first nite the temp got down to 22 degrees and we had ice on the outside of the canvas in the morning!!!

DH slept in a sweat-suit the rest of the week!!!

DH is a born & raised Floridian - I grew up in Buffalo! (I know cold!)

Mr. Man!!! I've only seen one other camper with a projector screen showing Disney movies. It was a family camped in the 1300 loop back in February 04. Was that you????

Debbie :)

You know, I've seen a couple people do that as well, set up the projector screens to play Disney movies. I think it is a great idea.

I think it's an even better idea when they have a live football game playing on the screen ;)

If you ever see a 2005 32Ft Itasca Meridian MH at the Fort during football season, feel free to drop in! It'll be me watching football on the TV outside. Not a wide-screen or plasma, but FREE BEER!!! :yay:

Debbie :)

DH is not a football fan, so I don't get the NFL Package (waaah!)

You don't know what can of worms you just opened with that free beer during football season comment ;)

If you start getting constant messages asking what site you're at, don't blame me...lol

Are you still a fan of da Bills?

Shout for da Bills!

Ya gotta love "Da Bills" - or anyone who plays against Miami!!!

I still have strong ties to the Bucs - but that's waning since Dungy (Gruden's too full of himself) was canned and the current owners are not loyal to the fans.

I have yet to go to WWS to watch the Bucs practice - even though it's free.

I'm also a "cheese-head" wannabe!!

Colson - we may have to make some beer runs - but hey - football is serious business!!! (So is drinking bee-yah!)

Feel free to start a "Football at FW" thread!! :goodvibes

Now....anything else funny happen to anybody while camping? :)

In December 06 in Loop 2000 somebody had one of those projecter things hooked up to a laptop showing CARS in their campsite.

In October of 1998 (I think) all 12 of us were staying at FW. My parents, my sister and I stayed in the Holiday Inn on wheels (5th wheel). The rest of the family were staying in tents. My brother thinking he was a smarter than the average bear, thought he would fill his air mattress with water, that way it would be more comfortable. Of course, we tried to talk him out of it. It was about eighty degrees during the day, so he thought he would be fine. The first night it got really cold and guess who was freezing? His wife was so mad, she slept in the other tent with all the kids.
