May be hard to believe but I go back to even before rotary phones. I recall just picking up and an operator would come on and say number please. You'd tell her and she connected you. Sometimes it took a little while but the system was really just local towns and/or cities. If you wanted to make a long distance call you had to ask specifically for it also whether or not you were going to pay or if the party on the other end was going to pay for it.Me too, though some are a little off. I mean, rotary phones weren't common when I was a kid, but they did still exist, and I had ocassion to use them. I also never technically used a waterbed, but they were around - my dad had one for a while. There is still the ocassional reason to write a check, though that is becomming less necessary with things like Venmo.
