Fund Raiser Basket Ideas

I often work on an oncology unit at a well respected medical university. Our patients come from all over the US for treatment. The unit nurses are doing a gala fund raiser to help off set the cost for family members who are in need of a little help during this time. A family member will often stay with the patient and day to day things become a financial challenge, such as meals, parking, etc.

I would like to do a basket for the raffel. I need ideas, the basic themes are being done. I was thinking of a disney theme, italian dinner theme. Looking for any other suggestions. Looking to spend about $40.00 per basket. Was also thinking of a baby basket.

What do you all think. Ideas are appreciated.

for a pasta basket, put in pasta, the makings for sauce like dried herbs, cans of tomato sauce and paste, a nice red wine and some par. cheese or a cheese grater. Place it all into a nice colander or a large pasta bowl.

for a movie night, place all into a popcorn bucket, bags of popcorn, boxes of candy, a choice of movies.

for a cooking basket, put a nice cookbook, bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and different dried herbs with wooden spoons into a pot.

I use to do fund raising for my daughters school, here are some ideas we did

Crayola
sports (I wrote to the teams in my area they were very generous with autographed items)
kitchen/pampered chef
night out on the town
salon/manicure
beach themed
gourmet foods

try going to local store in the area you will be surprised how supportive they can be.

One of the ones that was a big hit at ours was a coffee one. But with one of those grinders that cost about $10. Then you can get a whole bunch of different kinds of flavoured beans from a bulk store. Wrap them up pretty with celophane. Throw in a couple of nice mugs.

I'd second the coffee, you could do the something similar with tea.

Dh won one at the school for me when I was undergoing chemo and I loved it. For some reason, coffee was one of the few things that still tasted good to me. My basket had a couple of pounds of coffee, a couple of small Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts gift cards and a few packages of wrapped biscotti.

We were at a benefit recently for a little girl, so there were a lot of elementary school age kids there. One of the cute baskets on the silent auction was a "team spirit" basket for the local high school team. The colors are black and orange, so they had made one of those tied fleece blankets, orange and black nail polish, mittens, hair accessories... (obviously, it was pretty girly... but there were a lot of bids on it).

Homegoods has lots of great suff for baskets.My favorite to put together is a big pitcher with four beautiful glasses and a fancy lemonade put it in a great basket all for under $40

My daughter's class in high school just put together a basket for a fundraiser. It was a sports theme and they got tickets to the minor league hockey team's game a month away. Also they contacted the team and got fridge magnets with the schedule as well as a yearbook magazine and other small things. I think someone also donated small stuff like a license frame holder from the hockey team's gift shop.

There was a similar fundraiser locally for Be the Match. There were Dog themed baskets (treats, collar, toys, etc), Baby themed baskets (someone hand-knitted baby blankets for this one), Gardening baskets, etc. The baby-themed was a huge hit because inside of the basket there was a small piggy bank that a bunch of people in the office put loose change/dollars in and everyone wanted to win it to find out how much was in the piggy bank....

Since this is a fundraiser, you may want to ask some of the local entertainment venues and restaurants for donations. Many of them will offer free passes, gift cards, and other stuff. We just donated a free flight lesson to a student's church fundraiser. It's great advertising and the company may even be able to get a tax deduction on the donation.

One of the baskets that gets the most tickets at our events is the one with scratch off lottery tickets in it. Not sure if you're allowed to, or if it's appropriate where you work, but it's always a huge hit. The basket also had a few Dollar Store items in it to fill it up - like fake tiaras, fake jewels, a big eraser shaped like a dollar sign, etc.

The Movie Night one is also very popular - we add free movie tickets to the local place in it.

In what setting are you all doing the fundraiser? Will there be kids there or is it a grown-up affair? Will it be mostly hospital staff, or a larger audience? At the events I have done with children present, baskets that appeal to them always get a lot of tickets/bids. In fact I normally just give my kids a sheet of tickets to run around and throw in the bins and enjoy the moment of peace so I would think about your audience. If it is just grownups you could collect a few gift certificates for restaurant (if you ask at local establishments, they may give them to you) pair it with a bottle of wine (check first, not allowed at ours anymore), or movie gift card... Oh another popular one we have done, movie themed tickets, popcorn, some big movie candy boxes etc.
Spa day theme, baking... outdoor grill and camping themes went over well here too in the spring.

I always do a "green laundry" basket. Make a few wool dryer balls from Fishermens yarn (super easy, just google for instructions), add homemade dry laundry detergent, a lingerie bag from the dollar store, a pretty scoop and jar to hold it from Homegoods and print instructions on how to use them. It costs me about $13 and appeals to a really wide range of people.

I like the movie theme and the spa theme. A pet theme is good too with a bed, some toys, and some treats and stuff-for either a cat or a dog. Or a kitchen theme with some cooking utensils, bowls, measuring spoons, etc.

I once won a basket that had wine and glasses and a coupon for an overnight stay at a hotel, which was nice- not sure how much you'd like to spend.

Car wash/auto care, handy man, gourmet foods, date night, family fun (like bowling etc) arts and crafts, (scrapbooking, knitting, crochet etc)

The last time I did this I made an ice cream sundae basket. In it I put 4 sundae glasses, which I actually found at the Dollar tree, assorted syrups and sprinkles, and 2 of the long sundae spoons. It was a big hit. I have to add that I initially went in to the Dollar Tree looking for the bowls that are shaped like ice cream cones that they often carry. They come with an ice cream cone shaped spoon. I was going to use those and happened on the glasses. I think either or would work

Thank you for all the wonderful ideas. I may donate more than one basket with the great ideas. I was thinking of doing a rubber duckie basket for babies, thinking someone would like to give for a gift. May also do the coffee basket, local store had DD coffee on sale and I have coupons, then put in a DD gift card, mugs, biscotti, chocolate spones.

Keep the ideas coming, I will pass the ideas on to the other nurses who are looking for different ideas.
