Fun..."Quirky" things to do.....

Be sure to let you child pull the "do not pull" rope in the well in front of Indiana Jones at DHS. Listen carefully to the voice in the well. (This is fun for me because there is always someone whispering "I can't believe he let his child pull that rope with that do-not-pull sign in front of it"). :sad2:

Ride the Liberty Belle river boat. Years ago the captain let my children pilot the boat. They received "Certificates" and a pilot's license.

Let your child get a Henna Tattoo in Morocco. They're temporary, fairly cheap and neat to show their friends when they get back to school (while they last at least).

And whoever said it, I LOVE the Hidden Mickey "Fake Shot" idea. Gonna start doing that. :thumbsup2:

We'll always eat at Pinocchio's so we can wave to all the boats from It's A Small World ride. I could do that for hours.

Our next trip, we are going to try something with cameras. I'm going to make sure that all 4 of us have our own camera (cheap ones for the kids), and we are going to have different photo contests (either one a specific day, or perhaps during the whole time we are there).
Some ideas might include:

Animal scavenger hunt - Who can get pictures of the most different types of animals at AK.
ABC contest - Who can get the best pictures of things, places, people, etc... starting with each letter of the alphabet
Vehicle hunt - who can get the most pictures of any type of vehicle (car, monorail, boat, attraction cart, etc...)

I'll probably try to have at least 10 different ideas ready, and then let us choose as a family which ones we want to do.

My kids DS 9 and DD 6 really enjoyed learning to draw a Dis Character, taught by one of the Disney animators at Hollywood studios.

Getting to take their work of art home made their day!

We have the "Hidden Mickeys" book and spend time in line learning where the Hidden Mickey's are on the ride we're about to go on. It's a great way to pass the time waiting in line and then it makes the ride that more interesting to look for them!

When my son and I were just hanging around the last day of our trip this August we came across a velcro show in the Innoventions pavilion at Epcot. The show was fun, my son got picked to play the "dress the baby" game. Here's a shot from when he was finished:

After exiting the show you can make your own velco frog to take with you for free! You get to dress your frog in various things like mickey mouse ears, shoes, glasses, etc. Here's a picture of my finished velcro frog that we stuck on my water bottle holder:

Ha, the frog doesn't look much like a frog with all the stuff we put on him but we had a great time doing it!!

there are a few locations where water will squirt out at you unexpectedly like pass the fountain at Epcot or near Journey to the Imagination.

I think my picks are more under the classification of entertainment. Turtle talk is so interactive and most people just melt when he talks back and forth with the children.

If you put your child in the front row facing the Voices of Liberty performance (pre show) in the American Adventure lobby they will probably get sung to by one of the performers and singled out. This is not a sure thing but I think your chances are fairly good if your child is in the front sitting on the floor.

Children have better luck with this but the candy lady in Japan creates the candy sculptures and gives them away to the one she asks to name out a sculpture. Usually, you need to be right in front of her for this to work.

The World Showcase Players that appear in Italy and UK in Epcot will ask for a volunteer to be in their show.

The juggler in Italy always has a child and an adult participate in his show. He will ask you; so, it's not guaranteed.

France is the same way and audience participation is part of their show that appears in front of Chef de France.

De Vine in AK is my absolute favorite. I know she appears in Africa and I believe there are a few other places. She will get the audience involved, too. I won't give away what she does of who she is but her title somewhat gives it away.

There's African dancing near Tusker House and again there is audience participation.

If you are lucky you can be a chosen family to be in the Jammin Jungle parade in AK. You will ride in the parade. The other parades in MK and HS will make stops along the route and have the children dance with them. Sometimes you will get a handshake from a parade CM, too.

In some animal locations in AK there's an attendant who will speak about the animals. Listen to their spiel; it's educational. Some are the animal's keeper or trainer.

There's a talking trash can in AK. There's a talking walking fountain in Epcot. The sidewalks sparkle with lights at night in the sidewalk that go on and off near the fountain and by Innoventions. I believe it's fiber optics.

Take a free ride on a Segway for a few minutes. You will have to do a consent and sit through a short training session.

If you stay in front of Mr Potato Head long enough at Toy Story Mania's queue he will interact with you personally. This happened to me; I was shocked by it.

I may think of more, but this is it for now.

"There's a talking trash can in AK"

Pipa doesn't visit any more :(

Push still shows up at Tomorrowland and Wes Palms sometimes apears at the AK front gate.

A few notes about the "candy lady" in Japan. Her name is Miyuki, and she's the only woman in the world who does this craft. She learned it from her grandfather and is currently teaching her daughter. She has a cart outside the dept store entrance and does shows throughout the day. The candy she uses is a Japanese rice candy and she really does want you to eat the creations she makes. She picks children in the crowd and asks them to name an animal and she creates it out of the candy, she says the flamingo is the best one (I've seen it, it's stunning) but a word to the wise. It pays to teach your children to be polite here. Miyuki makes a point not to pick children who are screaming at her nor will she pick a child who's parent is pushing them to the front. If they wait patiently or raise their hand, they have a much better chance of being picked. She'll tell you the history during her demo although she can be a little hard to understand depending on how loud it is in the area. The first time I saw her, I was with my father who's legally blind and has a guide dog (he's in my avatar) My father has some sight left and as she was packing up from one show I asked her if she'd be able to show him some of the stuff a little closer at the next show. She said she's save us a spot and would even make our guide dog out of candy. She even put his harness on!
