Butterfly Cupcakes

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
1 baked cupcake
White icing
1/2 sour gummy worm
2 fruit slices, sliced in half
Gumdrop slices (optional)
2 1/2-inch pieces of shoestring licorice

Frost the cupcake and arrange the following on top: gummy worm "abdomen," fruit slice "wings" (attach gumdrop detail with icing, if you like), and shoestring licorice for the antennae.

Lion and Lamb Cupcakes

2 light-colored cupcakes
Yellow icing
5 orange and 1 yellow medium gumdrops
3 chocolate chips
1 piece of red shoestring licorice
White icing
1 Hershey's Milk Chocolate Swoop
2 brown, 1 black, and 1 pink jelly beans
Mini nonpareils

For the lion: Frost a cupcake with yellow icing. For the mane and whiskers, slice 5 orange gumdrops and 1 yellow gumdrop in half vertically. Arrange the orange gumdrop halves around the cupcake as shown. Then cut a small horizontal slit in each yellow gumdrop half. Press three 1-inch pieces of licorice into each slit and set the whiskered gumdrops on the cupcake. Add chocolate chips for eyes and a nose and dot the eyes with icing.

For the lamb: Frost a cupcake with white icing. Using small scissors, shape the sides of a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Swoop to make it triangular. Place it on the cupcake as shown, add brown jelly beans for ears, and cover the remaining space with mini nonpareils. For the eyes and nose, cut the ends off the black and pink jelly beans. Put a dot of frosting on the back of the jelly bean slices and arrange them on the Swoop

Witches Finger Sandwiches

1 (11-oz.) can Pillsbury® Refrigerated Breadsticks
6 small slices pepperoni
12 (2/3-oz.) slices American pasteurized process cheese food
3/4 cup finely shredded lettuce

Heat oven to 375°F. Separate dough into 12 strips. Place flat on ungreased cookie sheet; do not twist. With sharp knife or kitchen scissors, cut 2 small triangles from one end of each dough strip to form a point that resembles a fingertip. Lightly score breadsticks in center to resemble knuckles.

Cut each pepperoni slice into 2 pointed ovals to resemble 2 fingernails. Place 1 pepperoni piece on each breadstick.

Bake at 375°F. for 13 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. If necessary, reapply "fingernails" with small dot of ketchup.

Split each breadstick. Cut each cheese slice into strips and place in breadstick, overlapping strips. Top each with lettuce. If desired, serve with mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup. Serve warm or cold.

Serves 8 - 10

Ingredients:
2 packages (6 ounces each) cherry or raspberry gelatin
2-1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup cold milk
1 package (3.4 ounces) instant vanilla pudding mix

Directions:
In a bowl, dissolve gelatin in water; set aside for 30 minutes. In a small bowl, whisk milk and pudding mix until smooth, about 1 minute. Quickly pour into gelatin; whisk until well blended. Pour into an oiled 13-in. x 9-in. dish. Chill until set. Cut into cubes or use a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Yield: 8-10 servings.

My only thought would be that you might put them on a plate, to serve, and then set the plate over a bowl of ice so they stay a little chilled. They might be able to sit out for quite a while like that.

Bumping up for the season!

We had this cake last year. Leota's name is on one of the cookie tombstones. There was a little bit more to it before the picture got taken. LOL I am going to add a fence this year.

We're starting to plan our party - it's great that Halloween is on Saturday this year!

So cute! What type of cake is it (I'm trying to figure out the crumbles)? Where did you find the skulls and are they edible? What brand of cookie did you use? I'm going to steal this idea for a kids' halloween party. Thanks for posting!

We have a "snowman meal" every January or February when I make "Snowman Party Stew" and "Cauliflower Snowman", from Taste of Home. We used to make their "sweet snowmen" (and hubby would make his talk to the kids -- mostly about his horror as hubby ate him ), but no one really liked the snowball cakes it's made of, so now we do rice krispie snowmen (make rice krispie bars and shape them like snowmen and decorate).

Most years I also do a "Snow Ghost" pie -- a cocoa cream pie that you draw a "ghost" on with whipped cream (flat, not the "stacked" ghosts that are 3D). Although sometimes we decide the ghost is hiding in the clouds and just cover it with shipped cream. Especially on my less artistic days.

Snow Ghost Cocoa Cream Pie
p. 83 NB 1

1 9-inch pastry shell or crumb crust
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
1/4 tsp salt
3 cups milk
3 Tbs butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
sweetened whipped cream

Combine cocoa sugar, salt, and cornstarch in a medium saucepan. Gradually blend milk into dry ingredients, stirring until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until filling boils; boil one minute. Remove from heat; blend in butter and vanilla. Pour into pie crust. Carefully press plastic wrap directly onto pie filling. Cool; chill 3 to 4 hours. Garnish with a whipped cream ghost.
