Fun article on the Disney that never was...

I lived in Orlando as a kid and we went to the small building Disney had set up as the park was being build. They had a 3D map and it had the middle easter hotel on Bay lake.
I remember seeing it and thinking it looked like the Tashmahall sorry about the spelling. I always thought I was mistaken after all were talking 40+ years.
Its a good read thanks for pointing out the Disney History that never was.

The Fire Mountain one makes me sick. I would have loved more than anything to have a volcano ride such as DisneySea's JCE on American soil. All these great ideas get left to the drawing board, and we get more princess shows. Oh, my head.

Celebrations magazine had an article about many resort ideas that never made it off the drawing board. Very interesting stuff.
I would love the Nightmare Before Christmas ride!

Very interesting....thanks for the article, I love reading about these kinds of things.

I remember seeing an aerial of the Seven Seas Lagoon after the original MK park and resorts were built. And you could see that the land prep for the Asian and Venetian resorts had been done - the squared area on the west side, and the fan-shaped area on the east side. Unfortunately as mentioned the oil crisis and other factors killed the additional resorts.

The Asian Resort land eventually became the Grand Floridian.

The Venetian land has stability problems, having apparently never settled enough to safely build on. In the late 80s they wanted to build a Mediterranean Resort there, but decided that it couldn't be done. There was a report a couple years ago that they tested the land again and still found it unsuitable. I think at the time they were considering the possibility of a true DVC monorail resort there.

They may still have plans for something there in the long term, if it ever becomes possible to build there - it would be prime resort land.

Glad to hear that Bastos is a Disney fan too and not just running it as "just another race". :- It's a special event for sure, and one that I'm sure I'll get back to many times in the coming years
