FTD flower delivery question

I wasn't able to be with "my" family for Turkey day this year. We went to DH's family's house in SC.

So, I sent a flower arrangement to my brother's house in VA (where the rest of "my" family was going to meet.)

Feeling a little guilty about it, I also sent an identical arrangement to DH's family's house, so they could also enjoy some fresh flowers.

When we arrived at DH's family's home, the arrangement, while very pretty, was NOT what I had ordered. I didn't want to say anything about it, because they appreciated the thought and flowers, but I was disappointed it wasn't what I had ordered.

Later in the evening, when I spoke with my family, they had thanked me for the arrangement and I asked what it looked like because I was curious. The one that was delivered to them sounded EXACTLY like what I had ordered.

So, after ordering two identical arrangements, only one was correct. Should I do anything about it?

I would contact FTD and find out why and at the very least, make sure it was a comparable arrangement as far as $$$ was concerned. Then I'd ask them to make restitution because it was not what you ordered. Perhaps they can give you credit towards a future order so that they aren't losing money and will keep you coming back again.

I've used FTD many times and while it's never happened to me before, I always see the disclaimer that if something isn't available, that you acknowledge that they can substitute something of like or greater value if the items you've ordered are out of stock. If you feel that the value was less, I'd definitely say something.

I recently had flowers sent to a funeral home for a very close family friend. Lucky I went to the wake, becuase FTD didn't "sign" the card. They had no idea who they were from, until I saw them and checked the card.

FTD's response. "We do our best to complete orders, we apologize for the problem". End of story. I'll hand deliver anything in the future.

1800flowers did an arrangement, that I ordered in person, and pick up in person. The $100.00 flowers turned into a $30.00 arrangement. I was NOT NICE!!!

I've had much better luck by contacting florists directly in the town where I want delivery to occur (especially in small towns). Many will deliver free of charge to hospitals & funeral homes, and you tend to get more personal service that way.

It's happened to us. Although I understand that substitutions may be necessary, it doesn't make it any easier when we spent a lot of time choosing just the right arrangement, or went with the one with the pretty vase and then the vase gets substituted (like last Mother's Day).

We tried the local florist bit, but those darn things keep going out of business and then we have to find another one.

It's such a shame - the moms really like getting flowers. But I feel like I am actually paying them to rip me off.

I do the same thing. I will look up a florist in the town online and try to find one that is close in distance to the address I want it delivered. You can save on the delivery fees this way. I never use FTD or similar floral companies because of situations like yours. I'm sorry you were disappointed.

I also call a local florist after several "disasters" with FTD. (Like they didn't send my DS's girlfriend her flowers on her 18th birthday. :sad2: )

A good way to get a reccomendation for a local florist for a funeral is to call the funeral home directly, they are always glad to give you a couple of numbers of reliable florists. I've also found that if you tell the florist that the funeral home sent you, the arrangements are particularly nice.

I often go through and choose my first choice and then a back up when I've done FTD (or others like it). Then I CALL the local FTD florist and order over the phone. That way I know if they've got what I want in stock, or if I have to go with a second choice, etc.

It does seem like every florist shop has at least one tacky arranger, tho.....so you always have to put a bit of trust in it....

your dh has an 18 yr old girlfriend?

I guess I thought it was pretty common to have your arrangements not match what you ordered. Every time I have ordered something they say that it might not be exactly what you ordered based on availability at the shop. I now call a florist directly vs using an 800 number type one.

We recently had a problem with FTD - we ordered a very nice (and expensive) arrangement for a relative's wake, and we were embarrassed when we went to the wake - the arrangement looked nothing like what we had ordered and was half-dead to boot. I e-mailed FTD customer service, and they were very apologetic and issed a refund. You should try contacting FTD, as their website promises 100% satisfaction.

The above is an excellent suggestion and is what I will always do in the future.

for future reference-hit up your out of area relatives to save their old copy of thier local phone book for you when their new edition is issued and given to them. both of the grandma's in our family live in the same town so i got one of their old copy's and keep it on hand for ordering flowers or any other items i might want for delivery to them localy.

IMHO - this is the only way to go.

They did nothing in my case, even after repeated contacts. I use local florists now.

This was their response:

We're sorry that your experience was less than satisfactory. FTD.COM strives
to provide you with the very finest service. Let us assure you that your
experience is not typical, and that all your future orders will be filled with
the special care and attention that they deserve.

Thank you for shopping with FTD.COM.

Sincerely,
Mika
