Frumpy Moms Unite (FMU)

Hey you tricked me! I thought we were going to get together to revel in our frumpyness! I want to feel good ie: healthy. But I don't care what other people think I should look like.
Sorry. Didn't mean to trick you. Actually this is about me feeling better and healthy. My weight right now isn't healthy at all. Believe me I don't plan to be one of those people that can't go out of the house without makeup or hair fixed perfectly or tailored outfits. I just want to feel comfortable with myself. It appears you already are and I applaud you for that. :thumbsup2

So what is everyone doing for themselves today? I am getting ready to get on the treadmill. Also I will do my skin care routine this morning.

Well.... I was tempted to join, but I'm afraid "frump" is my middle name. I lost 40 of the 80 I need to lose almost 3 years ago.... but have piddle around and not lost the additional 40... but I have definitely been making more of an effort lately in that direction.

I like my "mom" jeans. I cannot imagine myself wearing those low rise things. I have NEVER liked to wear things around my hips and with the additional weight it is just not going to happen. I am also very high waisted so even regular jeans feel low on me. As far as bell bottoms go, BEEN THERE, DONE THAT in the 1970's. Not going back.

I try to wear nice shoes and not sneakers all the time... but sometimes it is about the comfort!

I will admit, I need to make more of an effort just to look decent when I go out. I went to a meeting with DD at the YMCA last night... my hair was yanked back in a pony tail, I had on no makeup and my DS said my shirt looked like I was in jail (large navy/white horizontal stripes... really ugly but the first thing I grabbed when I got dressed). I had meant to put on my nice jeans but I forgot and ended up going in my "only for around the house" jeans (faded and stained). I felt like a TOTAL LOSER the entire time! My excuse was that I had been too busy before we left, but I guess I need to start MAKING THE TIME to take care of myself. ..............P

Please join pjlla. It isn't one size fits all here. Its up to you to decide what you want to do. Even if that just means you will make the effort to change into the nicer jeans next time....KWIM.

I want to hear about the hair club thing. My sister -bless her heart is almost bald
I feel so bad for her

OK...I will be 40 in two weeks....waaaahhh.......and I told myself I was going to be fabulous and 40....I haven't made it yet....still a little frumpy, but I am working on it. I did have my extremly long (and totally out of date) hair cut into a cute little style, which unfortunately I have to style everyday. I lost 45 pound last year....put back on about 25 (probably from all the drinking I have been doing to forget that I am going to be 40.....how can I be 40!!! I still don't know what I want to do with my life!) :)

So....I am joining the club! I will try to put on a little make-up each day. I won't wear my usual "outfit" everyday (kahki pants, white tee-shirt, blue jean shirt over the white tee-shirt) and I will put my gym membership to work again and use the treadmill. Like my DD tells me...."Mom, you only have to go 3 times a week for it to work!"

Helen (soon to be "40 and fabulous")

I agree with you!

If I join your club, do I have to get rid of my Mom-jeans? I just don't think I can do that.

I think that I'll join your club. I haven't had time yet but I desperately need some new jeans and I HAVE to get the right ones. I've got it straight now; no Mom jeans, no straight legs, no muffin tops. I'm so ready!

Straight legs are good.... not tapered, REPEAT: No tapered!!! But straight is very good. Makes for a long leg look. Pair it with heels and you'd be one of those mom's another poster talked about! ;)

Yeah - no Mom jeans... or muffin tops. :thumbsup2

This is great! :goodvibes I wish you all the best. I don't think I am frumpy, but I always have something to work on. Currently, I am trying to tone. I am at the right weight, but I need to be a little firmer.

As for mom-jeans. They need to be dumped. You don't have to go to low-rise jeans, you can wear mid-rise. Believe me the high-waisted jeans are making your butt and tummy area look bigger than what they are. And never, ever tapered legs. Here is a jean to consider: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5676&pid=328805
It sits at the waist and has flared bottoms.

As for tennis shoes, I never wear my work-out shoes except when working out. I have an all purpose sneaker for wearing out and about. They are a pair of Vans and similar to these:

No matter what you wear or what you do, the key is that you feel good about yourself. That is what is important. :goodvibes

Im not in the club - but have been keeping a watchful eye on it. :wizard:

I think you have to get rid of the Mom jeans... This of course is my opinion, BUT Mom jeans make women look chunkier in the middle, and most women already ARE chunkier in the middle.

They dont have to be "ultra low rise" - The waist just needs to hit right below your belly button. Just below your navel is enough NOT to be mom jeans.

I wouldnt be caught DEAD in ultra-you-can-never-wear-undies-again-rise-jeans. But I also wouldnt be caught dead in Mom jeans. :)

Try the curvy's by Gap (or something along these lines) You'll love them: http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=12099&mlink=5664,565920&clink=565920

I like those sneakers Miss Jasmine.

I won't give up my sneakers. I've been wearing Reeboks with jeans for years and it's all about comfort for me. I guess that I'll just have to have frumpy feet sometimes. :)

:sad2: Tsk, tsk, tsk...Haven't we already had a thread about mom jeans? :rolleyes1 We're not talking hip-huggers here, and it's unbelievable what a nice-fitting pair will do to your ego. :thumbsup2
My latest thing is to remember to put on a tinted lip gloss or lipstick so my face doesn't look so washed out.

Jeans are quite important in un-frumping, frumpy moms. pirate:

I have 5 screws and a plate-pin contraption in my left hip. Trust me, it's all about comfort for me too. :) These are about the most comfortable shoes I've ever bought. I can shop all day in them and not limp at the end of the day.

I was joking. I'm the one that started the other thread.

My problem is my actual feet. They would laugh at me if they could if I spent the whole day walking in those shoes, nice as they are.

I'm not a mom, but a housewife!!

How about, on the days I don't workout I should be showered and dressed by 10 AM?

I am horrible about that. Plus I DIS way too much.

I do have a job interview later today, but have been sick since last Wednesday. I feel much better, but sound HORRIBLE!! I would say I'm so hoarse it sounds like I went to a concert, screamed my head off while smoking a carton of cigarettes!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Good luck on your interview! Don't dress frumpy or wear Mom pants. ;)
