Frozen Water bottles????

I have always frozen water bottles to take with us on trips and my wife ALWAYS worries about the exploding in the freezer as soft drinks do. Anyone ever have purchased water bottles explode while freezing? It is so great to take these into the parks frozen and than by the time you need one, they are still ice cold.

Water will expand when frozen so if the bottle is already full and tightly sealed, there is the possibility of it cracking but not really an explosion. The way to prevent this would be to pour some of the water out of the bottle and squeeze it slightly before resealing it to remove excess air. As the water freezes and expands, the bottle will expand, too.

Soda, on the other hand, contains carbon dioxide gas. When you try to freeze a bottle of soda, the gas no longer stays dissolved in the liquid and tries to escape. A well-sealed bottle will not permit the gas to escape and you get an explosion. If the bottle is not well-sealed, the carbon dioxide escapes into the air and you get flat soda when it thaws.

wow, you said that so well!!!! I would have said: it does not have the fizzy stuff in it, so, no danger. The bottles are rarely full (possibly cause when they are shipped they might freeze) and I toss them in the freezer.

We always have water bottles in the freezer at home. They are great to just grab and go when needed.
No explosions yet. If we do get a brand of water that seems really full, I just open, pour a small amount into a glass, recap and freeze.

This summer, We went to a air show at the air force base and had frozen water well into the afternoon. It was 90 degrees in the shade and people were drooling over our frozen water.
We could have paid for our WDW trip right there!!!!!

One exception is the Brita bottle. It says do not freeze filter or bottle. I guess freezing or very hot water can damage it. Filling it with ice or ice water seems to be okay from other reports I've read here.
