FROZEN in Carbonite! Updating for Halloween at Sea World and Disney

Memorial Day 2016

As soon as we left our house, half the sky darkened and the other half had bright sunshine.

20160530_182611.jpg

Animal Kingdom had been our park to avoid due to lack of air conditioning. Now that the night time activities have begun, it's becoming our "go-to" park!

I never dreamed in a zillion years that I'd chose AK on a holiday. Back when ds had to use a wheelchair in the parks, it was such a hassle to push it through the crowds. AK was particularly bad with bottlenecking. Perhaps during the day, this is still true. But at night, there isn't any bottlenecking!!

It was hot on Memorial Day, really hot, in the 90's. We had ds use his big cooling vest.

We arrived at the park, and the rain that began after we left home, followed us to Disney. I've been reading the Peculiar Children series outloud in the car as we travel here and there. Rather than getting rained on, we stayed in the car and I read until the rain stopped.

We are on the 2nd book.

Due to the rain, we missed our FP+ for the last FOTLK show, so we took our time making our way to the next FP+, the safari.

Stopped by Tiffins and Nomad Lounge for a sneak peak.

20160530_191220.jpg

Tiffin's was taking walk ups, and Nomad Lounge wasn't full, but we decided a dole whip was in order instead!

Next stop was the Pacu. My oldest son use to have pacu. They are a really neat fish. Related to the piranha, though their teeth are more like human teeth than that of a piranha.

The dole whip looked different to us. It was much more yellow. More icy than creamy. But still had that wonderful pineapple flavor.

20160530_192145.jpg

We found the perfect table where we could sit and enjoy our dole whips. There was a fan above us and it was shady. We didn't mind the 90+ degrees. It felt much cooler there.

We watched children trying to catch lizards. Ds wanted to go show them how it's done. And he started to really worry about the kids because they were in the shrubbery. He was sure they would encounter a snake.

Dh brought the video camera. He hoped to catch the safari and JB. When he opened the case, he realized the last time he used it was SWW. There was the guide as a reminder. Sigh.

20160530_193315.jpg

From where I was seated, I could see the show outside.

20160530_195235.jpg

And the next show.

20160530_201036.jpg

Both shows were very good. In fact, tonight we are going to AK just to see the shows!

As mentioned in the above post, we went on the night safari around 8:30pm. There was no line at that time and we walked right up to the area where the jeeps are. I asked if we could sit in the front. Last time we were in the back. I was curious if the lighting on the truck made a difference from front to back. It doesn't.

We began our safari right at sunset. We could see the animals without a spot light and the "sunset" didn't look out of place.

20160530_203542_1.jpg

Our last FP+ was for the 10:30pm JB. We had plenty of time.

Stopped by the tree and caught it coming alive with magic!

20160530_211439.jpg

Stopped briefly to watch the harp player. That was great! I'm interested in catching the whole show.

20160530_212010.jpg

Walking over to Dinoland, we tried to check out the view of the JB show from the bridge. That was short lived. There is a cm stationed there to keep traffic flowing. The view is great. Although the cm was telling people the view wasn't good and to go see the next show.

My picture came out poorly because I was walking while taking it. And only had one chance to snap the picture on my phone.

20160530_212120.jpg

We were hungry and decided on Restaurantasaurus. Dh and ds each got chicken nuggets. I ordered a kid's corndog meal. They were sooooo good. Though I think next time I'll get a hamburger there because their topping bar had lots of options!

20160530_213300.jpg

It was time to head to our FP+. We passed by another show on our way there.

20160530_215346.jpg

When we got to the JB theater, a cm wished me happy birthday! It wasn't my birthday, and I didn't have a button on. They were directing people though the first section to the right. But we were told to stay left. Next thing we knew, we were in section I of the map that was posted in the AK thread.

Behind us was an area roped off with a couch and cushy chairs. Beside us was a bar. Right smack behind us...was a snake.

A manager ended up picking up the snake and re-locating it.

An announcement came through twice that the JB show may be cancelled during the show due to inclement weather.

20160530_220202.jpg

But the show never even started. It began to drizzle and the show was called off.

We did not get replacement FP+. It was just a FP+ lost.

There was a mass exodus from the theater, and it was surprisingly easy to exit. Unlike the first time when we saw the show and everyone had to exit through the FP queue. By the time we made it to the car it was raining hard, lightening and thundering.

Hopefully, tonight the rain will hold out. But I won't hold my breath. We'll do whatever we can before it rains tonight. We have 1 FP+, that's for the show. The rest of the night we hope to catch the various shows.

Frozen Ever After: Totally Cool!

Monday we were able to escape to Epcot for a few hours. I'm so glad we did! The park was EMPTY! It was so nice. The temperatures were sweltering and not nice. But other than feeling like a melting Mickey Premium Bar our Epcot time was very magical!

My son's adult cooling vest weighs just under 15 pounds. So it's heavy for him to wear. But it gets him double the time outside than the child's cooling vest. He's going to get some serious muscles this summer lugging it around!

Our first stop was to renew his DAS. He is now good through our August trip! Which by the way has been changed from CSR to CBR, but I'm toying with the idea of Pop to save more money. But then I think it's our 25th Wedding Anniversary and I'd rather spend it at a moderate than a value.

Back to Epcot.

We stopped at The Land to get a return time for Soarin'. We were surprised to see Living with the Land had a 0 minute wait!

Soarin' had a 40 minute wait!

I stopped at the restroom and was surprised to see that the women's restroom is across the hallway from where it use to be. And the restroom is huge! Men's is where it has been. And companion restroom is where women's use to be.

Next off to FEA! But first a stop at the drink station. Since my son had to go years without soda, he had forgotten what Beverly tastes like and had to try that. Yeah, he still doesn't like it, lol. He tried a taste of every drink. I stuck with the Pineapple Fanta, YUM!

20160711_135915.jpg

We near Norway before our FP+ time. So we stopped at Mexico and rode that attraction.

Walking to Norway afterwards, it was odd to pass by the Margarita stand blocked off and surrounded by shrubbery.

Saw that A&E's meet only had a 10 minute wait!! Got in line for that!

20160711_142246.jpg

The Royal Sommerhus was darling! The attention to detail was amazing! We loved the tribute to Maelstrom banner!

The cm who showed us into the M&G room was someone we knew from SWW and dh had worked with him in the past. It was nice to see him again!

First we met Anna, then Elsa. Our photopass pictures showed up in the MDE app while we were in the FP+ queue for FEA. That was fast!

This summer, my son was in the ensemble of Aladdin Jr. and Colonel Hathi in Jungle Book Kids. As soon as both shows were over, we hopped on a plane and were off to Pennsylvania for a week. We arrived back Sunday. FEA had opened during his rehearsal times for his shows. We hadn't seen any of the ride videos or read any spoilers about the ride.

It far surpassed my expectations! We loved it!! We came off the attraction grinning ear to ear. It was very well done!!

20160711_144451.jpg

I didn't know there was a ride photo until the flash!

wdw2016193507504777_7741570053_dsnyRes-base_dsnyLoc-tmp.jpeg

After FEA we headed to Soarin'. We were happy to see Patrick still in the preshow.
There were plenty of "golf ball" moments where things came right at us.
It was nice seeing a new movie, but I can't say I like the new movie better than the old.

So many people commented after the ride about missing the orange smell.

We enjoyed our 3 attractions and the M&G. DS' cooling vest was mostly melted, so we headed left the park.

Today we will be heading out to another Disney adventure! I was able to get FP+ last night for this afternoon for FoF, 7DMT, and PP. But I'm thinking of cancelling them and going to DHS tonight. We haven't seen the new fireworks yet. Though we haven't seen the new castle stage show either. Decisions...decisions.

Oh, and ds is learning scripts to 6 new mini-skits that he and some other kids from the theatre are going to perform for 3rd through 5th graders at a library. I've been typing out those scripts for him in huge font so he can read them.

While I was up in PA, I started to make FP+ for the August trip. I didn't make and ADR. I think we are going to try to do food as cheap as possible. It's now 4 nights, 5 days. DH has vacation time for each day. DS has 2 classes we might be driving back home for him to go to (both are dance classes) so we might have him skip them so we can actually enjoy a full Disney vacation for once.

Sounds nice. I have been avoiding videos of everything too. We head out Wednesday. I did watch one of the Frozen M&G and thought the detail was awesome. I'm not a big M&G person, but I almost want to do it because of all of the details. Plus, the waits haven't seemed bad at all. I think they did it right this time. It's amazing that the waits for this dropped so drastically after moving it to Epcot.

I'm wondering if the general public doesn't know the girls are there? The ride sure had a line!

It's hot! Be prepared Wednesday! My body wasn't prepared coming from PA to FL. I really minded the temp difference.

Unfortunately, it's hot and humid in Austin right now, so the weather has been preparing me. Also, I am just not really bothered by the heat, especially at Disney:)

That's good!

I wasn't thinking. I went with my big Star Wars water bottle filled with iced coffee (black). Probably didn't need to be drinking a diuretic while sweating buckets!

I didn't know Frozen Ever After had a ride photo! That ride photo is the first I've seen from anyone.

A Whole New Experience

We didn't make it to MK yesterday. First it was too hot. Second, I goofed. REALLY goofed. When I was making our FP+ the night before, I thought I picked yesterday's date. I didn't. Somehow, MDE defaulted to our August trip and I ended up making FP+ for the one day we had no FP+

I was very surprised to get 7DMT, FoF, and PP.

When I went back yesterday into my laptop, it showed no FP+ for yesterday. Oops.

Due to the Florida temps, we decided to wait til evening and go to DHS. I was able to make same day FP+ for TSMM, the sing-along, and Indian Jones. But we got there too late for Indy and the sing-along.

There is visible construction as we were pulling into DHS.

20160716_194522.jpg

Once we got in the park we had plenty of time to get to TSMM, except...the skies were turning black and we heard thunder in a distance.

Dh stopped for a Blue Milkshake at Minn and Bill's. DS got a Premium Mickey Bar at the stand by GMR. (When did the Mickey bar shrink??!!)

I saw that One Man's Dream had a preview for Pete's Dragon, so we headed over there and sat on a bench because ds was dropping chocolate off his Mickey bar as he walked.

But we were a day short! There was no Pete Dragon preview on Saturday!!

20160716_200605.jpg

20160716_201416.jpg

Instead there was pin trading out front of One Man's Dream.

20160716_200632.jpg

The dark skies were getting darker. It was 20 minutes to our TSMM FP+ and the rain was not going to hold out. We opted for GMR. It got us inside. In the air conditioning, and kept us dry!

It turned out to be a whole new experience we've never had at GMR! Details in my next update. :)

A Whole New Experience (continued)

The skies looked ominous and the lightning was getting closer. We high tailed it to GMR. With nobody behind us in standby, we were able to take our time and enjoy the props. The guys were excited about the Star Trek costumes. Didn't expect to see them there. Looking forward to the new movie too!

It took 3 loadings til we were seated on the ride. They were only using one ride vehicle. Is there a proper name for that vehicle?

When we got off, we could not get out the door of the vestibule to outside. It was wall to wall people who had exited the ride since the downpour started.

A manager looked our way and whispered to a cm, who then announced that everyone could come inside and watch the preshow until the attraction closed for the night.

Most people just stood there, but we went inside and had a seat against the wall.

20160716_205229.jpg

People started to fill in slowly after us. Soon the whole preshow area was filled.

20160716_205303.jpg

They announced that anyone who wanted to ride again could get back in line. At first, when there were few takers, they loaded in through the handicap entrance. But once more got up to ride, they sent everyone up to the top of the room to get in the queue.

We rode it twice.

The rain stopped when we exited and the fireworks were about to start.

Or were they? The first announcement came about a delay due to inclement weather.

Then a 2nd announcement came.

The 3rd time, we expected the cancellation. Instead, it was announced to start in 5 minutes!

I have to admit, I didn't like the new fireworks as much as I wanted to. There was much more activity on the screen than there was in the sky.

We had an excellent spot to view from, and there were still poles and trees in our way.

The special effects are amazing though!

We went to AK last weekend, just for the Jungle Book show. We sat far left, 2nd row of the FP section. I could not see the main barge. But this time had a perfect view of the water screens!

My bil is visiting with his family. We met them at DHS the other day. Just some observations.

Security made ds take off his cooling vest for inspection. That was a first. Every nook and cranny of my purse was inspected. For the first time, dh was not asked to empty his cargo shorts pockets. In fact, as soon as security stopped us after bag check, he assumed it was for his pockets. Had no idea it was going to be for the cooling vest.

But here's the real amusing part. They stopped dh and told him they needed to inspect his cooling vest. He wasn't wearing one. Ds obviously was. He had on his adult vest which is huge! So the request to security came from an observer somewhere other than the bag check area.

We directed security to ds who was wearing the cooling vest. He had to take it off and she inspected each pocket of the vest.

On to April planning, we got tickets to the 501st banquet! ! Yay! It's also time we can register for the Darkside Challenge!

What would you do? My son has 3 rehearsals during our anniversary trip. We can drive back and forth, but it's a lot of time wasted driving. Each rehearsal would take away 5 hours each day from our trip time, between driving and rehearsal. I listed each day as a conflict on the audition application, so they are excused if he misses them. But it's the first time they are blocking and choreographing these scenes. It's best if he doesn't miss.

I'm contemplating rescheduling the trip again or cancelling it? I'm also toying with keeping it and driving back and forth? There are 2 days, Friday and Sunday where he can miss rehearsal out of the 5 days we are there.

Maybe have him miss only one rehearsal instead of 3 and drive back and forth for the other two.

I switched from a mod to a value resort. Saved almost half. Decided to send him to the choreography and blocking rehearsals, not the music. So that's just 2 rehearsals,10 hours total, taken from the trip.

In April, we'll have our time for a mod resort.

That sounds like a good compromise. Sorry it's affecting your anniversary. I know how that is with kids. One year, DH and I were going to Melting Pot for our anniversary. It's no trip, but it was the best we could do. The babysitter backed out at the last minute, so all 3 of us celebrated our anniversary. Luckily, Melting Pot was actually a good place to take DS, as opposed to some other fine dining establishments. Have a good trip.

That's a shame the babysitter backed out.

Our trip includes ds. But maybe we'll go out to eat when he's at one of his 3 hour rehearsals?

Are you guys 501st? My wife and I are, but there's no way we are going to Orlando on Easter weekend. We've done it once, and that was two times too many for us.

Edit: I backtracked through the thread and found your initial mention of the 501st. Nice to see more of our brethren here.

My husband is 501st. I am not. But he really is pushing for me to get approval with an imperial officer costume.

What garrison are you in?

I'm calling off this August trip. I have to have surgery and it's tentatively set for Aug 30th. And that's going to be the beginning of a long journey.

I heard discounts are coming out this morning. So I'm going to attempt to reschedule yet again. Possibly for Nov or Dec.
