Memorial Day 2016
As soon as we left our house, half the sky darkened and the other half had bright sunshine.
Animal Kingdom had been our park to avoid due to lack of air conditioning. Now that the night time activities have begun, it's becoming our "go-to" park!
I never dreamed in a zillion years that I'd chose AK on a holiday. Back when ds had to use a wheelchair in the parks, it was such a hassle to push it through the crowds. AK was particularly bad with bottlenecking. Perhaps during the day, this is still true. But at night, there isn't any bottlenecking!!
It was hot on Memorial Day, really hot, in the 90's. We had ds use his big cooling vest.
We arrived at the park, and the rain that began after we left home, followed us to Disney. I've been reading the Peculiar Children series outloud in the car as we travel here and there. Rather than getting rained on, we stayed in the car and I read until the rain stopped.
We are on the 2nd book.
Due to the rain, we missed our FP+ for the last FOTLK show, so we took our time making our way to the next FP+, the safari.
Stopped by Tiffins and Nomad Lounge for a sneak peak.
Tiffin's was taking walk ups, and Nomad Lounge wasn't full, but we decided a dole whip was in order instead!
Next stop was the Pacu. My oldest son use to have pacu. They are a really neat fish. Related to the piranha, though their teeth are more like human teeth than that of a piranha.
The dole whip looked different to us. It was much more yellow. More icy than creamy. But still had that wonderful pineapple flavor.
We found the perfect table where we could sit and enjoy our dole whips. There was a fan above us and it was shady. We didn't mind the 90+ degrees. It felt much cooler there.
We watched children trying to catch lizards. Ds wanted to go show them how it's done. And he started to really worry about the kids because they were in the shrubbery. He was sure they would encounter a snake.
Dh brought the video camera. He hoped to catch the safari and JB. When he opened the case, he realized the last time he used it was SWW. There was the guide as a reminder. Sigh.
From where I was seated, I could see the show outside.
And the next show.
Both shows were very good. In fact, tonight we are going to AK just to see the shows!
As mentioned in the above post, we went on the night safari around 8:30pm. There was no line at that time and we walked right up to the area where the jeeps are. I asked if we could sit in the front. Last time we were in the back. I was curious if the lighting on the truck made a difference from front to back. It doesn't.
We began our safari right at sunset. We could see the animals without a spot light and the "sunset" didn't look out of place.
Our last FP+ was for the 10:30pm JB. We had plenty of time.
Stopped by the tree and caught it coming alive with magic!
Stopped briefly to watch the harp player. That was great! I'm interested in catching the whole show.
Walking over to Dinoland, we tried to check out the view of the JB show from the bridge. That was short lived. There is a cm stationed there to keep traffic flowing. The view is great. Although the cm was telling people the view wasn't good and to go see the next show.
My picture came out poorly because I was walking while taking it. And only had one chance to snap the picture on my phone.
We were hungry and decided on Restaurantasaurus. Dh and ds each got chicken nuggets. I ordered a kid's corndog meal. They were sooooo good. Though I think next time I'll get a hamburger there because their topping bar had lots of options!
It was time to head to our FP+. We passed by another show on our way there.
When we got to the JB theater, a cm wished me happy birthday! It wasn't my birthday, and I didn't have a button on. They were directing people though the first section to the right. But we were told to stay left. Next thing we knew, we were in section I of the map that was posted in the AK thread.
Behind us was an area roped off with a couch and cushy chairs. Beside us was a bar. Right smack behind us...was a snake.
A manager ended up picking up the snake and re-locating it.
An announcement came through twice that the JB show may be cancelled during the show due to inclement weather.
But the show never even started. It began to drizzle and the show was called off.
We did not get replacement FP+. It was just a FP+ lost.
There was a mass exodus from the theater, and it was surprisingly easy to exit. Unlike the first time when we saw the show and everyone had to exit through the FP queue. By the time we made it to the car it was raining hard, lightening and thundering.
Hopefully, tonight the rain will hold out. But I won't hold my breath. We'll do whatever we can before it rains tonight. We have 1 FP+, that's for the show. The rest of the night we hope to catch the various shows.
