Frozen Ground Beef???

Depends on how it is packaged.

If beef is packaged in some sort of airtight container - whatever that may be - and most of the air removed, it will last months.

I grew up on a cattle ranch and we raised our own beef, so to speak. The butcher would package it up, and we would have beef for months and months.

My DW just recently bought one of those Food Saver vacuum sealers. That is a wonderful thing to have around.

Pozey, this was in the original package I got it in at the supermarket..the styrafoam "tray" with the plastic over it.

I have bought some fresh beef to use (dont want to chance my family getting sick on my meatballs), but I'm curious what people think. ;)
 

It won't ever go "bad" in the sense that it will make you sick. It just won't taste very good if it's been in there too long. The texture will be the first thing to go, so I'd use it for something like chili or spaghetti sauce where it's just loose if it's been in there for long.

CamColt....on the occasions that I buy hamburger meat that is packaged like this, and intend to freeze all (or some) of it, I would take it out of the original package and re-package it in something more airtight.

I think you would be better off if you put the meat in a zip lock baggie and then squeeze as much air out as possible. Air is bad for meat.
