Frozen Fireworks: Alaska on the Wonder July 2, 2012

We're not able to book yet but have been in many discussions.

Skagway. Yukon expedition
Juneau. We want to do Mt Roberts Tramway and haven't decided on what else to do?
Ketchikan. Lumberjack Show and prob just walk around. Ketchikan waterfront looks cute albeit kitschy.
Victoria. We're going to walk around the waterfront towards the Empress than back via a supermarket so my DS can pick up his favourite Canadian sweets. We were there in December last year so he just wants to get off the ship and walk around.

So excited and can't wait to book excursions. I have the date in my google calendar with an alert the day before! But I don't think I'll be forgetting.

Hi, I think your excursions should like fun. Our first cruise with the grands so it's pretty much what they want to do. Looking forward to this trip.

Hi Travelbee, I gave my DGD the message from your DD, she took it home and was going to e-mail her with her mom. So, will ask it she's done that yet. She was excited.

Hi Bunless, I was surprised about the port time in Victoria. We wanted to go the Bushart Gardens, but I'm guessing that won't happen. Just means we'll have to go back another time.

Hey.. it will still be light when we are in Victoria, so we will plan to go Bushart Gardens. I

It will still be light for the most part, but it actually gets quite magical there as the sun goes down. They have it lit beautifully.

When I first went on an Alaska cruise from Seattle, I wondered at the late Victoria time. The reason is that after the last Alaska port (that usually leaves close to noon) they hightail it as much as possible to get to Victoria in time for anything at all. If it wasn't for the maritime law, I doubt they would actually stop in Victoria...even though it's such a great port. You can really feel the difference in the speed when they are driving south instead of north.

I forgot it stays light, late. I'm looking forward to Bushart Gardens! Thanks!

I'm interested in any information others may have about the Tween Club, since this is our first cruise, and our daughter will have just turned 11. She's a pretty young 11-year-old, still playing with Pokemon cards and Knex, so I'm hoping they'll have activities that are still good for the "in-betweeners" and not all teen wannabe types of activities (if it's all dancing and makeup/manicures, she'll be so out of there!). But she loves karaoke, so I'm assuming they'll probably have stuff like that!
We don't have personal experience with the Tween Club but we checked it out on our last cruise. I believe it's called the Edge, mid-ship Deck 2. It's quite a bit smaller than the Oceaneer Lab or Club. It looked to me more than kids conference rooms. They do have something called "Out and About" for that age group that sounded totally fun. They take the group all over the ship for different activities. One night they closed Mickey Pool and the kids from the Edge were there playing counselor led games.

No emails yet but we still have plenty of time before the cruise. This really worked well for DD on previous cruises.

I think that's our plan too.

I think that's our plan too.

School takes up so much of her time, plus scouts and swimming. She will get back to her, soon.

I'm here! I'm here! Sorry guys! For some reason DIS stopped sending me notifications when this thread was updated, so I totally spaced out for a bit. I'll fix the roll call etc asap.

We're SOOOOO excited -- we will be booking our excursions etc on 4/3. Need to read through the next 5+ pages of posts to see what we've missed!

Oh, and we will DEFINITELY be in for the FE -- we've done it on our last two cruises and have had so much fun :)

Late to this party; hope that's okay!

Question and answers...

  1. Name and DIS Name - Hannah (calihannah) plus DH, DD5 and DD1.5
  2. Where do you live? - San Francisco Bay area
  3. How many Disney Cruises have you been on? - This will be our 3rd
  4. What is your favorite Disney Character? - Rapunzel of late :)
  5. What will you be reading on the cruise (Ha.. if you have time to read?) - 3 months is too far out to say! But I read a LOT on board...
  6. Coffee or Tea drinker or Neither? Why? - Neither -- just not a fan! I drink other stuff though ;)
  7. How are you getting to Seattle? - Flying from SFO.
  8. Plans in Seattle before or after the cruise? - Before the cruise: spending time with aunt and uncle who live in Downtown Seattle. After the cruise: maybe another day or two with them, plus Wine Country (Woodinville etc) either before or after the cruise.
  9. What are you most looking forward to on this cruise? ALASKA!!! :rotfl: And my daughters' expressions of glee :)
  10. How do you plan to stay warm on the cruise? -- Good question!
  11. Any Cruise inside information you want to know about or that you know and would be willing to share with the group? - Not that cool :) Looking forward to learning everyone else's info though!
  12. Favorite Food/ Dessert (are you a foodie and looking forward to eating on the cruise)? SO excited for Palo, as often as we can get it. Our MR trip over NYE this past year, we had Palo 4 times!!
  13. Do you want to participate in FE? YES!!
  14. Would you be willing to coordinate FE? I can set up a spreadsheet on Google Docs if it's not done yet -- I did this for our MR cruise
  15. Is Frozen Fireworks a good representation of our cruise name? LOL, that was my silly name when I was starting this thread -- happy to change it if anyone came up with anything better!

Just a bunch of Silly questions so we can get to know one another[/QUOTE]

I think Frozen Fireworks is perfect. Love the visual!pixiedust:

Also to add to the roster for us, grandma is going with her friend in another cabin. They won't be in on the FE, but we will, just fyi.

We keep changing our minds for shore excursions. We dediced to nix the train ride since 3-4 hours is just too long to look at scenery. We'd rather do a hike looking for bears - sounds more exciting. :scared1:

So far we have:
Skagway - eagle preserve or dog musher's camp
Ketchikan - rainforest wildlife sanctuary
Juneau - whale watching and wildlife quest

We won't disembark in Victoria, just too late for us.

Glad to see another Grami on this cruise. We're still deciding which excursions, we want to do them all!

100 days until we sail!

Only 10 more days until I can book excursions.

Hi Oregon Mom,

We're going with our grands that are DGD 8 and DGS who is 11. I'm finding that most of the 11 year olds are girls. But I'm sure he'd like to get to know some Tween Club kids, also. It's our first Disney Cruise in 20 years. First for the Grands.
I'm sure just knowing the name of someone else who might be there will make the first night less awkward, especially if they have a shared interest, although I'm sure the counselors will keep them pretty busy! Thanks for the offer.

Monday morning 12:10am I was able to book our shore excursions (we are Gold on this trip) for the following:

Palo Brunch Tuesday
Yukon Expedition from Skagway
Dog Sledding on Glacier Juneau
Classic Fisty Flightseeing - Ketchikan - Palo Dinner
Butterfly & Gardens - Victoria

Gees this is going to be expensive!!! But, I guess its once in a life time. Still debating doing some of the excursions non-Disney, prices are much better. Maybe doing the Dog Sledding and Fjord Flightseeing on our own.

Steve

Thanks Lucky1 for the update.

Steves100 - What time zone is that in at 12:00 that can we book? I'm so there!
Flightseeing and then Palo for dinner sort of sounds like a Bachelor/Bachelorette (tv show) date night. :)

We've changed our minds again for shore excursions:
Juneau - Mendanhal Glacier and Whale watching
Ketchikan - still the Wildlife Tour and Raptor Center
Skagway - I think we're going to an outside source since we do have all day there but can't find anything Disney to do. Any suggestions are welcome for a timid DD who is 5. Maybe the White Pass Adventure with panning for gold or sled dogs.

Anyone have any exciting door decorating plans? I think I'm going to attempt some magnet sheets.

I set my alarm for 11:55, went to bed at 10:00PM, ony issue was it was for 11:55am not PM : (

Woke up at 12:45pm and made the reservations.

Steve
