Frozen Fireworks: Alaska on the Wonder July 2, 2012

I see we lost Mackay Mouse to the 2013 itintenaries, I was wondering if the Seattle cruises will be losing people due to this and then they start offering discounts.

One of the reasons we would not swap is MIL lives in Seattle and so it is much easier departure and return for us. We can have Family members take is to and from the port and can spend some time before and after in Seattle, without extra cost.

Looks like the port times are increasing since the initial posting of the 2012, so it doesn't seem as bad as everyone things.

Hi all,

We'll be on this cruise with our son and his wife, and our 2 grandkids. Our last Disney cruise was on the Big Red Boat, 20 years ago. We want to experience all the Disney magic, (even tho we'll be on the Wonder) and looking forward to a great time. DGD is 8 and DGS is 11.

Welcome LibLady!

Glad your first post was to our meet. Traveling with me will be DH, DMIL and DD10

Thanks Lucky1,

We are so excited. Don't know much about the meets or the FE, but want to be involved in all the fun stuff.:dance3::dance3:

Hello Liblady and welcome and glad you are honoring us with your first posts!

We are from Phoenix, have a 5 yo DD and 7 yo DS going along with grandma and her friend. We plan on being in on the FE!!!

We've browsed the Disney shore excursions and want to do the train, glacier and whale watch and one more tbd probably a hike. I'd like to do the kayaking but my kids are still young. We kayaked off Jamaica and it was fabulous.

I am excited to find the meet for our cruise. This is our first cruise (Disney or other) and our first time to visit Alaska. We booked 14 months out and I followed the posts last summer so now I am in data overload!!

My DD (will be one week shy of 9 when we cruise) is excited to experience the clubs but I would love to have some ready to go friends.

Has anyone heard if Pirate night will continue this year? There was speculation last year that it would change since the pirates really didn't fit in with the Alaska theme.

We haven't looked at the excursions, yet, but want to do a few. Gotta conference with the DDIL and DS. It all sounds exciting to us.

It's nice to see activities picking up on this thread. A big :welcome: to Liblady and Tikifamily!

Laura - we may consider giving DD check in/out priviledge. It depends if my sister ends up coming (on the fence because of a job situation). She's very protective so there's no chance she'll let my niece check herself in/out, especially since they've never cruised before. My niece is also 9 so there will be lots of girls around that age!

BTW - is anyone keeping a roll call and a list for FE participants? We'd like to do the FE and I'm sure I can convince my sis if they come.

Anyone looked into the cost of hotels in Seattle? Most decent hotels are $200+ and I'd much rather save my $$ for an excursion. Anyone seen good deals that they care to share? We'll be staying 3 nights in Seattle precruise.

Connie - Haven't looked at hotels in Seattle, we are staying with family before and after the cruise. But where do you want to stay in Seattle City or are you looking at the outskirts? IF you stay in the City, expect to pay for parking or look for something that includes parking if you have a car. Seattle is EXPENSIVE for parking. They use to say expect a $1/every $15 minutes. But their public transportation is great, so you would not need a car, unless you want to head out to Mt Rainer or Leavenworth, etc.

There is someone on the main boards that has been putting together some recommendations.

Laura

Got an email from DCL today about the Adventures by Disney add on... Seems interesting (costly), but DH is considering this as our excursions.

Anyone else?

Thanks Travelbee, we are looking forward to all the fun. We, too, would like to be involved with the FE thing, not real familiar with it, but what I've been reading, it sounds like something we would like to do.

I just booked our hotel via Priceline today and got the Hyatt at Olive 8 near the Pike Place Market. I wanted to pay for the hotel before the cruise PIF next month  so we don't get a big hit all at once. We plan on walking and taking the monorail and public transportation, so we won't be renting a car and paying the exorbitant parking fees! We just have 2 days pre-cruise to see Seattle so if anyone has suggestions on must-dos, let me know!

Laura - we are not doing the Adventures by Disney add-on. It's just way out of our price range. We will probably be doing some low key excursions and probably on our own to save $$.

We are flying in on Friday. Currently we have 2 nights Cedarbrook Lodge and the last night at the Monaco Seattle with limo service to the pier.

Hi Tikifamily, our DGD will be 8 during the cruise. She'd love to have a friend, too.

I agree, they are out of our price range also. Hoping there are plenty of activities on the ship while we're in each port. Family has some excursions planned, as well.

Liblady & Tikifamily - DD is 9 and she's an only child. She would LOVE to have ready to go friends! Lucky 1 and I are trying to get our DDs to email each other pre-cruise - let me know if your DDs want to join in as well!

We are flying in on Friday too. We started our bid at $120 for 4-star in the Pike area and use the rebidding strategy until our bid was accepted at $133. With fees and taxes, the total was $475 for 3 nights. We're probably taking an airport shuttle to the hotel and then a taxi from the hotel to the pier.

Well.. I wanted to do this as seems like last year there was probably only a $1000 price difference between doing everything yourself and doing ABD. That might also cover all the perks such as having your own tour guides and special surprises they don't tell you about. This year, I tried to figure it out and seems like it will be almost $3000 difference for our family of 4. :scared1:

Darn.. now I have to go back and replan...

My DGD-8, would love that. I also have a DGS who will be 11 during the cruise and would like to get to know someone before, also, if you know anyone.

We are driving from California to Seattle and will be staying at the Sheraton,
6th st., the night before. $177 w/senior citizen disc.
