We considered purchasing a child finder device last yr, but I had completely forgotten about that option. Thanks bunches for the reminder! That idea needs to be revisited. DS doesn't necessarily need a s/n stroller only a BIG one as he has outgrown the standard ones you find in most stores. Does anyone know if there are any affordable ones out there? The ones I have found so far were ridiculously expensive.

We just went through having to buy a new stroller just a few months ago. It was terrible because of the process. First call the dr and get an RX for a stroller, thank God they didn't make us come in for an office visit. Then get a letter of recommendation from the OT. Then mail it all to BCBS only to have them tell me that they will not cover any services at all for autism, regardless of the safety issues for DS and others.

So then take letter from BCBS and send it into State for consideration. Wait 2 months and have the request denied. So in this time period I had been saving and preparing to purchase a stroller.

I searched online and also checked on Ebay. We bought the Liberty by Advance mobility because it was easier to fold than the Axiom. It was frightfully expensive!!!! I thought the first Maclaren was expensive but this new stroller exceeds all ideas of expensive! I also bought the carry bag, air pump, organizer and cooler for the bottom.

I like the stroller and hope it works out well at Disney. Good luck in find a new stroller and I feel you pain.

BTW, we get the stroller as a wheelchair and it does make a huge difference to be able to keep DS in the stroller and waiting with the sunshield down. It keeps the sensory in check and makes for a great trip.

I am sick at the thought of buying a special stroller. I have never heard of such a process! We didn't go through that much to get Tefra Medicaid! I still have a relatively large three wheel Jeep stroller that I may have to squeeze one more year out of. I use stroller as wheelchair passes as well. It makes a huge difference in keeping DS calm during a long wait. When possible I try to use standard FP (when I think DS can tolerate it). There are a lot of cool things in Disney lines to be seen and I don't want him or DS6 to miss a moment of the Magic!

Special Needs strollers are probably the only ones that would fit your child (or fit for long). They are very expensive.
I suggest AdaptiveMall.com as a good place to look at a variety of options out there.
Some people have found one on ebay and many people have been able to cover a special needs stroller with insurance. If insurance won't pay, if you have Health Savings Account, this would be something you could buy with that account.
You would need a doctor's prescription and a justification of need, but safety related to impulsive behavior would be a medical need.

Followed up on the adaptive stroller idea. DS's OT actually made a few calls for me today and we are covered due to behavior/safety issues. All we need is the RX to get the process rolling. This will not be a problem. Thanks for the tip Sue!

You're welcome.
A lot depends on your insurance and also on how 'persuasive' your OT is. They are the ones who write up all the justifications for what you need.

I may be wrong but I believe you can rent special needs strollers down there in Orlando. I know I have seen Maclaren Major strollers which should work for your child. Sue are they still able to rent those?

Thanks for the reply, but I think the issue is that he wants to be "bucket nekkid" as DS6 used to say when younger. He doesn't care what character is on the front. I don't know if this will help anyone in same boat, but I have noticed that he will wear shorts if I don't put undies on him. With him it's one or the other. I guess I will leave the U/W home this vacation! One less thing to pack. He will wear a bathing suit, maybe I can find some that look like shorts. (Very quirky, this one is!)

i don't know if this will make you feel better, but i have an aspie son (he's 13 now), who was a "naked kid". i had an awful time keeping clothes on him when he was younger, but as he has matured, he has become more modest and the problem has resolved itself. however, he has never liked underwear, and we just decided when he was around 6 to let him go commando. that made it a lot easier with the clothing battle. now that he has to change for gym in middle school, he does wear boxers, but only on school days. weekends are still commando!

YES! Someone who understands my plight! Good to know he may grow out of it. My DS stays in underwear at home. I let him go commando too. We don't have a prob at school, but at home... clothes?....forget it. Several months ago at church DS was getting irritable. Assuming he was warm, (wearing 2 shirts layered), I decided to remove the longsleeved one from underneath. That is when the mayhem ensued! Once I got the shirt off and tried to put the short sleeve back on it was a fight for survival. During the Wrestle Mania match he managed to get his shoes off and his pants were down around his knees! DH, who never finds much humor in these situations, completely lost it! He began to laugh out loud...in church....I thought we were going to have a Mississippi Squirrel moment! I had a half naked child and a hysterical husband on my hands. When DH decided to help clothe DS, DS bit him right on the nipple area causing DH to let out a YELP! Then I lost it! Then My DM lost it! At that point DH decided it was time to remove DS. After DH removed him from the service, the choir and half the congregation were still chuckling. The pastor never missed a beat! Lucky we have such an understanding church family, huh? I could write a book.

kampfirekim, that is the funniest story ever! i just let my son read it, and he died laughing... that is one great thing about my own darling aspie, he is much better able to see the humor in things like that now that he is older

I'm glad you and your little darling got a good laugh! I live in the "Georgia-lina" area, only about 10 min from the GA state line. We're almost neighbors!
A merry heart really is like a medicine. I say always look for the humor. It helps take the edge off.
