From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 3

For a couple of winters I did not even have heat in my car. I just made sure to take short trips and drive as fast as a rear wheel drive car can go over snow covered roads.
I'm sure that's just as bad as me not having air in the summertime in Texas. The first brand new car I bought, I had just turned 18 and was a senior in HS. Didn't have help from Mom and Dad and really wanted this particular car. Only way I could afford it was w/o air as they had deep discount on this car as no one wanted to buy it. DH (boyfriend at the time) said he would work extra to put the air conditioner in. It was well into summer before we could get the money saved up and I felt like I was melting every time I drove anywhere. It was a wonderful day when I had that cold air blowing in my face.

I remember being in Chicago on Nov 11th, and walking around downtown in a trenchcoat....passing by people in parkas, tuques (stocking hats for those non canuck) and dogs all kitted up in wool Chicago Bears sweaters...

DH has to go to Chicago this Nov. He asked if I wanted to go and I told him it would probably be too cold. Yep, sounds like I made the right decision. If it's cold for the residents, then I know I will be torture for me :goodvibes

We have a favourite comedian, from Scotland, Danny Bhoy who does a routine on how curling was invented by the Scots and Canadians as a way to throw the garbage (trash) down the driveway without leaving the house, and then if the bag opens up....they created sweeping....
Never understood curling. I will watch it during the Olympics and just don't get it. :confused3

BTW, we only have 2 seasons in FL - Summer and January.

Reminds me of a billboard I saw once: The 4 seasons of Texas - Early Summer, Mid Summer, Late Summer, Winter

That's for sure! Hope this year is nothing like last, I still havent recovered from the exhaustion of one storm after another!

We had an unusually "cold" winter too. We got snow twice in Houston and my friend north of Dallas said they had snow 8 times this year! Here's hoping we're back to normal this year!

We were on the Carnival Dream on Jan 9 when embarkation day was 34 and sleeting. 2 days later in Cozumel it was only 63. Hoping 11 does not repeat 2010 as we have 4 days in the world. But I am definitely bringing cold weather clothes. Might go look at some wet suits at Ron Jon this week.

IMPORTANT!

We can begin reserving the canopy (zipline) tour in Puerta Vallarta!

They can give us a 25% discount and provide private transportation from the docking area to the actual canopy site and back!

Please also PM or e-mail me when you book and let me know how many people you booked just so I can keep track and make sure everyone that books is updated with any new information I get.

I just added my family to the Secret Santa .... That should be fun!
I recall ya'll had a few gife exchanges. What was the one that was a few small gifts before the final bigger gift? .... I can't find the post that talked about that, but I have picked up a few small fun gifts .... Shopping for some reason comes a little bit easy to me ....

The Secret Mickey (like a secret santa) is the one where you will give out 4-5 girfts including the reveal gift. If you have clicked on the link a few posts back and entered your info, you are signed up!

You will be assigned your Secret Mickey (the person you are gifting) after final payment next week.

I went into the form and see you signed up each member of your family... I want to make sure that you want to buy for 4 different people? If you want to combine you and your DH..let me know. Also let me know if you want each of your DD separate or together as well.

Thank you!

Do you all have any guess what the dining rotation will be? Is it just a repeat of the 7 night? I am already thinking about what night I want Palo on, but am unsure how things work with a cruise of this length.

It will probably follow the same pattern but there will be other theme nights and possibly more than one formal and/or one semi formal I would guess. The longest cruise I ever took with DCL was the 11 night southern and we did have other themes and additional formal/semi nights.

I am thinking of booking our Palo dinner on a night where we can watch the ship pull away from port - I just have not figured that evening out yet. Since we are platinum I will be booking that when they call me, whenever that is.

Only been on one DCL. Does the menu at Palo change each evening of the cruise? If the Palo menu does change, does it match the theme night for that evening.

What other theme nights are there? On our cruise I remember Pirate Night and some other formal night with the Golden Mickey's. The rest was not that memorable.

If it were me, I'd pack my oldest stuff and plan on jettisoning it as I bought new. I used to do that on the continent when I'd travel by train - wear it out - throw it out - even shoes - a trip to London could wear holes right through the soles. :rotfl2: Oh, and pack a couple folding duffle bags for the overflow.

I have to start out in winter gear and come home in winter gear, so it will definitely be with me all the way.

We are seriously considering this but we're wondering if both summer and winter clothes would be available for sale at that time?

You can always buy shorts and t-shirts in Florida.

Jack has his first ear infection. Of course Jeff is out of town. It's going to be a long few days......

Hello to everyone. Hard to believe that in just a little over a week those platinum and suite people are going to take up all the reservations and shore excursions ;-) j/k. I made my first batch of fresh guac, and it seems to have turned out well. Which made me realize, I don't think i've ever seen Guac on the ship! By the way does anyone know if they do the sushi lunch like they do on the 7 day cruises?

Check out the Promenade Lounge before dinner - they generally put out a few appetizers and guac is usually one of them - although pretty bland. Seems to me I have had it in Diversions as well - still bland though.

A week from tonight - I am so ready.

I hope he is better soon and the meds take hold right quick and he is back to his usual self.

Possibly not in the same place, Florida, you're bound to find summer stuff, year around. New York, your chances of finding summer clothes in December are slim to none.
I'm trying to find summer clothes on clearance now, and not having a whole lot of luck.

you *might* be able to get stuff at Century 21 in NYC (summer/ spring clothes)... or some of the consignment shops in NYC... but you'd be better waiting for the summer stuff until Florida
