Since we have done a few 7 days cruises to Mexico, we have been to PV several times. Usually, we just walk around the area not far from the port just to get off of the ship for a bit.

I am terrified of heights so have never done the zip but several of our friends from the PC 2008 cruise did and loved it.

In Acapulco (which I realize has no bearing on this cruise), my DH and Mom and Sis went to see the cliff divers... My DD and I walked across to the fort. We enjoyed ourselves but it wasn't a port I care if I ever go back to.

I have never been to the Walmart in Mexico but ours here is fine...maybe I will venture out this time just to check it out :rotfl2:

I am looking forward to the new ports I have never been to..not sure if we are doing excursions or just walking around but always love to see new places!

It was just the site of Walmart at the port that made me not want to get off the ship last time in PV. I was looking forward to getting off there as I had not been in years and wanted to find a nice bar to relax at. Well thanks to Wallmart at the port the nice bar I went to was Signals at the Cove. I can care less about Wallmart but nothing, to me, screams home in the U.S.A. than Wallmart. When I am on a cruise, last thing I want is to be thinking of home.

Well said Alan, I couldn't agree more!

I'm debating the zip line in PV or CR too. They both look pretty good, for me it is going to come down to what else there is to do in each port. Like if PV looks like a not so great port other than for excursions, then I'll probably be joining you and zipping there and hopefully doing a beach day if its nice in CR.

I actually despise Wal-Mart and refuse to set foot in one, and I think it will be rather disappointing to see a big one right when you come into port on your vacation, but I suppose I can ignore that if there are worthwhile excursions like the zip line that sound fun and exciting.

I was planning to do a beach in CR too. I googled Tortuga Island. If there is an excursion there, I would take it. I plan to check Wal-mart for fabric, cheap tequila and tortillas. But we live just a few hours from a border town so anything Mexican I want I can get in a couple of hours. We usually RV so we make alot of Walmart stops. With a 38' RV they have big parking lots and are RV friendly. Sorry to offend any Walmart haters, lol

This is a typical sunset as seen from the beach in PV.

Oh wow !! What an amazing photo ::yes::

Lynn,

What part of Scotland are you in?

We will be heading to Scotland this summer as part of our family trip home (first time in 5 years!) and was wondering if you had any recommendations for places to stay. We will be traveling all over the place from the Isles of Arran and Iona up to the Elgin/Forres area (wondering about staying around Inverness or Aviemore for that part of the trip). Any suggestions for a family of 4?

Yes, the Walmart and car park rather spoilt the view, but I guess people live there year round and need supplies and cruise ships are only there for some of the days. The cruise dock area is a bit out of the way from the town really, but it can be got to quite easily.

Kay, how many nights, are you talking log cabin type thing or a posh hotel, Ive done it all:rotfl:
In fact we are going up that way tom for a week to near Dornoch.
We had a lovely cabin in Aviemore a few weeks ago.
Are you on face book? so you could see the pics.
Other wise I will pm you some pics.
Aviemore is nice these days, but I LOVE pitlochry if you get a chance to go there.
Inverness is nice, actually so is Nairn.
So many nice places in Scotland.
I can post you some visit scotland stuff if you want, attarctions and stuff.
Have you been to the Falkirk wheel??
If you are anywhere near there you must go !!!!!!!!
I took my friend from Kansas when she visited and she loved it.
Are you getting over to the east coast?
My Dad has a little motor cruiser there, could take you for a little puffin spotting.:)

The cruise ships dock in Marina Vallarta which is where the WalMart and Sam's Club are, it's a good cab ride from there to the old town of Puerto Vallarta.

My point was that if you want to get away from the commercialism of the Walmarts, get in a cab and go into Puerto Vallarta. I can go to a Walmart at home, I don't need to go to one in Mexico but I would hate to miss the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful culture and history of the town just because I can see a WalMart from the dock.

zakerdog - Beautiful sunset pic!

I thoroughly depressed myself and finished my taxes today.:sad1:

I can understand that, but at the same time, when you are really looking forward to something, that just ruined it. It took the air out of my day. In the long run I am not a port guy so I think I had more fun on the ship watching the NBA playoffs.

I agree, 2 mins and you wont see it, you photos are lovely, we dock there pretty early, do you think it would be suitable to go for a run to the old town?
I mean is it dodgy(dh will be with me) its just those pikkys look so nice, looks like it would be nice to run past all those things, folks dont tend to bother you when you are running with ear phones in.

I am away up north to the beach for a week(sorry photos to follow!)
Catch up in a week:cool2:

Now Publix is a nice store! I wish we had them up in NJ. My favorite supermarkets though are Safeway out in Phoenix and Ralphs in San Diego- both are such big stores for "one stop shopping", they have Starbucks, Jamba Juice, ice cream shops, cleaners, postal services, full liquor/beer/wine, and everything you can imagine. In south Jersey we just dont have those kinds of supermarkets with everything in one place, but I sure wish we did!

Sounds fun! Pictures would be great!

pahrumpgirl - I would also like to see the pictures.

Here are some pictures. They do not allow you to take your own cameras along for safety reasons but they have a great photographer that goes with you. We had a great group of guys that were our guides and safety crew.

Doug and I with our group. Figured out the bandanas were for sanitary reasons since they couldn't very well clean the helmets.

A view of us on a platform. This is what the bridge is made of.

After the first zip we really started enjoying ourselves.

Remember, at the time I was 61 and DH was 64. I loved the zip-lineing just not the platforms so much But it was worth it.
