I can't remember if this has been asked so here goes: I'm on several cholesteral meds and multivitamin, calcium, fish oil etc. Do i need to pack them in a labeled container? I usually use a day to day pill organizer (and i'd pack the more days in snack bags). Will this do or do i need the original containers? This for both getting on the boat and getting on the planes. thanks!

I left my perscription meds in their container, but just put vitamins etc in a snack ziplock bag for our cruise last Nov. I always keep these types of things in my carry-on.

As of today (6/4/10), the only direct flights from NYC area on 1/5/11 were:
EWR-MCO
Continental - $119 w/taxes
United - $119 w/taxes

HPN-MCO
AirTran - $119 w/taxes

I'll keep tracking and will keep you updated.

One-way direct Newark to Orlando on 1/5/11 has dropped by $17...first drop since 6/4/10 (I check daily).

EWR-MCO
Continental - $102 w/taxes
United - $102 w/taxes

Your meant to but NEVER have.
You know what ? I think it's going to take me a full 6 months to get to know everyone's real names on the board here :lovestruc As such, I hope you don't mind if I use your user names for now :)

I survived the new job - just. (Thanks OrlandoBeagle :) ) Wow - get some of the younger boys together unsupervised for a nanosecond, and it spells trouble ! LOL ! Thankfully I have another p/time job, so between the two, there should be plenty of saving for our big trip. Oh, that reminds me - about how much is everyone budgeting per person for the cruise ? I should think we'll do shore excursions in most ports, and we're not *big* alcohol drinkers - maybe two drinks a day on holiday. Any other costs I'll need to budget for ? Onboard activities ? We're not "spa people" either.

I'm excited to hear about Hawaii, too - it's normally a stop-off for us on the way to mainland USA, but if there's a cruise, we may consider that instead. I'm already in the throes of working out our 20th anniversary trip in 2012 (just DH and I), and was planning on an Alaskan cruise for now. May have to put the HI plans on hold for a furutre year. So many holidays, so little time - especially when I keep thinking DD1 will be finished high school in 4 years' time !

Threebrits - I LOVE sea days, too. I've done plenty of cruises in the Pacific, but it's the same issue too - so many islands in a short space of time.

sak - sorry, I have no real idea about meds - I'm sure DH just packed his in their normal boxes / containers for our last trip ?

Hope you're all having a great day/evening. Gorgeous cool weather here today - dry, sunny, no wind, and about 60F.

Cheers,
Sally :)

Good idea Sally, I will trymind put our names in my sigy.

Just home from a preview of Toy Story 3. It was pretty funny and I love that all of the characters came back to do thier voices.

Had a great time and got a special pin for the occasion. I'm not a major pin collector but love getting special ones.

Alan must be a happy camper - the Lakers won tonight. Quite an exciting game! They were down by 13 in the third and won by 4.
I am estatic. For a while it was not looking good. My friends here in New Hampshire are great. They said we could stay in and order Pizzia. We went to the New Hampsire liquor store and I got a bottle of Bacardi. Because we stayed in I was able to trash talk to my friends who are Celtics fans. They were so cool about the game. They even let me play the Lakers victory song, I Love L.A. by Randy Newman. Well tomorrow off to Boston. We are going to the U.S.S Constitution then to the Bull and Finch the inspetation for my all time Favorte T.V. show Cheers. Yes I know it looks nothing like the set inside but I don't care. Then off to Baseball nervana, Fenway Park. Should be a great day.

orlandothebeagle, you didnt' sign your name! but i'm not sure what ur comment was to me??

maybe for a bit we all include our names (and if u want ur spouse or travel partner) names in our posts? i'd like to learn them too, in case i still get to come.

sherri (and alan)

alan, need some friendly advice. sw doesn't fly from atl to bwi, but since there's no "bereavement" fairs any more, do u have any suggestions on getting a reasonable fare from atl to bwi (or just in general- i may be trying also from tronto/ny area here.)? this is to get my kids home for a funeral where we have no time really to plan. thanks - even if you have to tell me i'm sol!

sherri (and dh alan)

TGIF! It has been sort of a long week but I am looking forward to the weekend. DH will be home from camp this afternoon until Sunday morning. Having dinner with DS, DDIL and her Mom tonight and letting the dogs all romp through the house. But both of mind seem to be on the mend (one ear infection, one neutered) so romping is good.

Everyone have a great weekend.

I didn't see anything - where was this????

The Wonder of Disney
A 2,400-passenger cruise ship is leaving Florida for the West Coast and might start sailing to Hawaii

By Alan Yonan Jr.

POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Jun 13, 2010

Walt Disney Co. is expanding its cruise ship business, and Hawaii is one of the destinations on its radar screen.

The global entertainment giant will move its 964-foot Florida-based Disney Wonder cruise ship to the West Coast next year -- a move that will coincide with the opening of the company's new resort at Ko Olina on Oahu's Leeward Coast.

The 2,400-passenger Disney Wonder initially will be used for cruises up and down the West Coast of North America, but Disney CEO Bob Iger recently mentioned Hawaii as a possible destination in future years. The move of Disney Wonder comes as the company is adding two new ships in 2011 and 2012, doubling the size of its fleet.

"We thought we had an opportunity to expand our horizons, no pun intended," Iger said at a June 2 presentation to stock analysts in New York. "We're going to take advantage of that with Alaska, Southern California and Mexico, parts of Europe and, maybe down the road, Asia or Hawaii," he said.

Although a Disney spokesman wouldn't comment on any of the company's cruise itineraries beyond 2011, the state Department of Transportation confirmed that Disney has tentative bookings at Pier 2 in Honolulu Harbor in May and September of 2012.

Cruises to both Hawaii and Asia would offer Disney synergies in terms of resort and theme park pairings. For example, Disney could offer a land-and-sea vacation package combining a cruise with a stay at its 840-room Ko Olina project. Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, is on track to open in the fall of 2011. Disney currently operates a theme park in Hong Kong and has plans to build another one in Shanghai.

The DOT said Disney has not applied for permission to bring a cruise ship into Kalaeloa Harbor, a deep-draft port used by cargo ships and located about a mile from Ko Olina. Although the harbor could be used to embark and disembark passengers from cruise ships, it lacks a terminal and other accommodations for passengers.

The DOT granted a request from Ko Olina master developer Jeff Stone to bring cruise ships into Kalaeloa beginning in 2003, but said it could not justify construction of a new pier. Stone was unable to secure any commitments from cruise companies to use the harbor.

Then-state Harbors Administrator Glenn Okimoto said at the time that a ferry terminal at Kapolei was a low priority for the DOT.

"We have other needs in Honolulu harbor and we don't think it will be a priority for cruise ships to use Kalaeloa, at least not at this time," Okimoto said in an article published in 2007 on dvcnews.com, a website dedicated to Disney's time-share division.

"And we can handle four cruise ships in Honolulu at one time. So far, we haven't had any cruise ship wanting to go there. They (Ko Olina) are still trying to get somebody," Okimoto said.

Disney entered the cruise business with the launch of the Disney Magic in 1998. The Magic, which also has a capacity of 2,400 passengers, is moving from Florida to Europe next year. The Disney Wonder entered service in 1999.

Iger told analysts that the company's $1.5 billion investment in two new cruise ships is part of an effort to expand a profitable part of its business. Disney Cruise Lines has produced "nice double-digit returns on invested capital," Iger said.

Although The Walt Disney Co. is a U.S.-based company, Disney's cruise ships are registered in the Bahamas. The Passenger Vessel Services Act prohibits foreign-flagged vessels from sailing directly between two U.S. ports. The Disney Wonder, which will be based in Los Angeles, would be able to comply with the act on voyages to Hawaii, by making a port call in Canada or Mexico before heading to the islands.

The Disney Wonder cruise ship, above, has 10 decks, a total length of 964 feet, a maximum width of 106 feet and a gross tonnage of 83,000. It has capacity for 2,400 passengers, along with a crew of 945. Disney Cruise Lines might be adding Hawaii to its itinerary in 2012.

Disney is also building the Aulani resort on 21 acres at Ko Olina. Aulani will have 360 hotel rooms and 481 time-share villas and is to be completed in fall 2011. The resort will have a saltwater snorkeling lagoon and a river running through a specially created volcanic outcropping.

Now that Ive read the article I think Alan is right . Seems like it will go there in May and Sept. As the article says nothing is done deal but I dont think they would be looking at piers if it wasnt probably going to happen.

I wish they would go to Austrailia, thats our dream vacation but we just cant stay of the Disney ships :rotfl2:

Yay, it's Friday. HUbby should be getting off work soon from his overnight shift and has tomorrow off as well. But unfortunately, he has to work all day and night Sunday :(

I just got our electricity provider changed today:banana:. Our contract just expired, I switched providers and I will save anywhere from $60-150 a month depending on usage!!! Considering I live in South Texas where it HOT at least 6 months out of the year and we run our AC almost yearly, I will save a ton. Based on my usage from last year, I will save over $1000 the next 12 months on electricity!!! That's a big difference considering I don't have to give anything up!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!!!! I'm know I'm off to a great start!!!

I am, but the pollen up here is killing me. Today should be fun. I am also hopeing to hang out with my old manager. He has been the Station Manager in Boston since we started flying there a year ago. Sak, I really don't know what to tell you. I am sorry. If I could help I would. I wish you well and I know it will be alright.

About the meds.... Jeff and I are both on a lot of stuff, he's diabetic and I have other medical issues. We travel A LOT with our meds. Yes you can try to fly with your meds not in their orginal containers, but you're taking a chance. DCL probably doesn't care so much, but flying does. I had my vitamins in a daily pill case for a 2 night business trip. My pill case was taken out of my carry on and inspected. TSA informed me that things need to stay in their orginal containers, no exceptions. They let me have my vitamins back, but they could have confiscated them and that would have been that. So we creatively pack our meds in our carry ons and deal with losing space. But neither Jeff or I can live (really) without our meds, so we make do.
It's kinda like traveling without a passport, you can do it, but do you want to chance it?

Going to do it right now!

So, do we think that the Wonder is going from LA to Vancouver via Hawaii in May, and back from Vancouver via Hawaii in September? Sounds a great trip either way.

I'd be reluctant to read too much into this. Remember, DCL has applied to go to the inside passage in Alaska and dropped it. They may just be keeping their options open. :cool2:

Actually.... May and September are both "repositioning" dates. Hardly makes sense to go through Hawaii to reposition to Vancouver.

But it makes a lot of sense if you were going to spend the summer cruising in the far East. And there are Disney parks in both Tokyo and Hong Kong to visit ....:rolleyes1
