WE ARE ON THE SAME FLIGHT!!! My DD and I are coming in from San Diego (I got an SWA flight for $119 pp) and are leaving Houston on the same flight as you!! We have got to meet while we are waiting in the airport (look for the lady carrying a iced coffee from Starbucks and you will most likely find me :rolleyes1)

~Melissa

Yeah! Get your Starbucks before Houston, we have a non-Starbucks coffee establishment at Hobby Airport! We'll be the family with the Subway Sandwiches (our family tradition):cool1: Great price on the SWA flight...ours was $148 pp, but not complaining. How long is your layover? We'll be through security by 7. How old is your DD?

Back to the Saturday chores!! Houston is HOT today:headache::headache:

So we were originally supposed to fly out of LGB through SLC to get back to DTW on our return home. Unfortunately Delta decided to change their schedules and the LGB>SLC flight arrived *after* the SLC>DTW departed .

So, they happily changed us to fly out of SNA through MSP back to DTW. Honestly I prefer this schedule anyway since the flights out of John Wayne seem to be much more stable (and on bigger equipment) than those out of Long Beach. So, we'll overnight at the Embassy Suites by SNA Airport and fly out the next day. When we arrive into San Pedro, I made a one-way reservation with Hertz for an SUV so they'll pick us up at the cruise terminal and then we'll have a car for the day and just return it to the Hertz at SNA Airport.

Maybe Napa Rose for dinner that night. :):)

I hope I'm not forgetting anything!!

Thanks for the heads up on the 'Bucks free zone. I'll make sure to get my "fix" before heading to Houston! I don't remember our arrival time, but we leave SAN @ 1:20ish. I would assume it is about a 3-4 hour flight and with the 2 hour (?) time difference, maybe 7 something? I will double check and let you know though =0)
DD is twelve and will be one month away from the big 1-3 when we set sail! Do you have a daughter too?

Which Hertz are you using? We will need to rent a one way car back to our house after the cruise, but I cannot figure out which Hertz it is.
I love flying out of John Wayne. The take off is so much fun (as are the looks on peoples' faces when they don't know to expect that kind of take off).
I'm not sure how much planning I could actually do now- since I have cruise, fights (both ways), hotels before and after all done- but I'm itching to do/learn more! I'd love to be able to see what's available as far as excursions (even though we couldn't book now.) When we did our family cruise last May we talked excursions alot before the actual sign up dates- I wanted to do a Dolphin swim really badly so I checked them out in all the ports and checked with all the kids (who of course all live away from home now) so we could book the first day possible so I wouldn't be shut out! LOL

Hi my name is Pam and I'm a planaholic!

Oh, I feel your pain!! I always print out all of the excursions and then spend HOURS pouring over all of the options! Having to wait so long is killing me! Any and all advice, ideas and suggestions gladly accepted here!
I have been accused of being pretty OCD with planning myself, but some of you put me to shame! I'm impressed and will gladly sit at your feet and learn!
I heard that Costa Rica has a very cool canopy tour and I also know that on other cruises Cabo has a zip-line over a canyon and a repel down. Does anyone know anything about those? Can you tell I like heights =0)?

Just popping in to say hi. I participated a bit in the beginning of this thread, but life just got to busy to continue. Since we're getting closer, I figured I'd just drop a quick line. It's just me (Holly) and my 8-yr old son Tyler cruising, but joining up with Heather and family (ThreeBritts). Spent last week with Heather and family, she convinced me to pop on here. Howdy all! :goodvibes

Booked my flight to Orlando today---now to wait until SWA releases flights for the return! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Happy Father's Day to all the dads tomorrow--Enjoy!!

Did you look up Sea Life Park in PV, thats where we did our Sea Lion encounter and then had the rest of the day at the water park its in. The dolphin pool was beautiful and everyone seemed to have a good time. That was an excursion we did on our own and was very reasonable. We paid 20 bucks rt for taxi there and I think the encounter was $69.00. We were talking about doing the dolphin there this time, maybe we could get a group together.

I'll have to look into that one. I've looked at several of them on the web but it's nice to hear first hand experience. THANKS!

Hello Holly...welcome back. Don't be a stranger, you can't let life interfere with the "Dis." Just kidding of course. :thumbsup2

Glad your home safe and miss you guys already!
I met Holly on our first DCL cruise 6 years ago as we were seated at dinner together and weve been friends ever since. I think thats one of the greatest things about dis is meeting people from all different walks of life and staying in contact.

You've got that right! We were outside for just a while and had to come back inside. But I'll take it over the cold any day!!!

DD is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award and had to be at the Farmers Market early this morning...good news, its only HOT in the morning vs the REALLY HOT & Humid of the afternoon.:lmao: I got really spoiled with the beautiful Spring we had, I will be an inside :surfweb: chick until November!

Luckily there is Starbucks at MCO when we land! Yes, have DD:lovestruc...she will turn big 1-4 at the end of July, so she'll be 14 1/2 (almost) on the cruise -- with so few kids (compared to summer & holidays) they should be really pampered with the tween activities.:dance3:

We are staying at MCO Hyatt upon our flight landing, then ME shuttle to the port in the morning. After we've had our Starbucks & Krispy Kreme 'fix'!! What are your plans?

Good luck to your DD with her Gold Award. I'll have to keep an eye on the local chapter newsletter for her completion. DD is a GS too. Next weekend they are heading to San Antonio for a sleepover. They are all really excited.

Yes, we did have a great, but short lived spring. Sometimes in the summer morning, the humidity hits early on. I ran the Astros 5K 3 weeks ago and I knew it was hot and humid but didn't know how bad. Got home, and someone had reported it as 86 degrees (which isn't too bad) but the humidity was 90%+. And it's only going to get worse until about September. Thank goodness my electricty rates were just chopped by more than 1/3!!!

Thanks! DD just finished her Silver Award, so Gold will be a couple years off but all 5 girls in her troop are aiming for it and we're here to support them! Have a great time in San Antonio at the campout. Our Service Unit campout in January was rescheduled due to the deep freeze -- yep, it was that weekend -- so our girls are waiting impatiently for October!

I LOVE getting in my car and the temperature reads 114 degrees (in the shade) and then Frank on Channel 2 reports our high was 92!! Santa Barbara is my happy-place...ahhhh, a girl can dream:cutie:

Which company did you switch your electricity service? We moved to Stream Energy (a friend of ours is a 'sales rep') last year and can't believe how much we've saved over Reliant:woohoo: almost enough to buy the wine package onboard:thumbsup2

Off to watch the latest DOCTOR Who...DD is in  with the Doctor popcorn::popcorn::

We moved from Reliant to Amigo. Our rate with Reliant was 15.9/kw and now with Amigo it is 10.4!!! I looked up my usage for the last 12 months and I will save over $1000 over 12 months!!!:banana::banana: And I'm locked for 2 years. We'll be moving in 2 years so I won't have to worry about any rate hikes until then. Perhaps I shouldn't have locked for that long (it bit me in the behind last time) but I didn't want to have to worry about sky high rates again.

How exciting for her. Mine just earned her Silver this year but can not start on her Gold for another year since she is just going into 8th grade in the Fall. She already has a plan though so it will be fun to start on it next summer.
