From the World of Adults to the World of Kids, Fifth Birthday Trip is Over!!

Since Connor was fine once we exited Nemo, we headed straight to our next destination. Xander wanted to play. This play was the number one thing on his list. We started at the Boneyard. I found a bench nearby to nurse Connor where he fell asleep. When Xander decided he wanted to win a prize, we moved on to the second part of his playing.

Xander loves playing the games. He played a total of 6 games (5 different ones), and won prizes on three of them. The whiffle ball game is the one he enjoyed the most, so he played it twice. Unfortunately, he did not win that one either time. I was impressed that he won three times though, and he plays with one of the animals he won a lot. Playing the Fossil Fun Games is probably the single thing he looks most forward to at Animal Kingdom. The sun was beating down in this area though, and I felt very hot. We got drinks to cool us down.

After Xander won his prizes, we got in line for TriceraTop Spin. Connor was still asleep, but I figured we would ride with him asleep if he did not wake up. The wait was 25 minutes, and he woke up naturally just as the ride before ours started. It was perfect timing. We all rode this, so I do not have any pictures. Our Fastpasses for Dinosaur were about to expire, so we rushed over there. This was the tenth and final fastpass of the whole trip. I’ve seen people get around that many in one full park day, so we obviously do not use them as often. That is still a huge improvement for us, since we rarely hit double digits with our fastpasses.

Crap took Xander first. I nursed Connor a little, but he was mostly in the mood to play. They were not gone for too long on this one. When they exited, Xander informed me he did not want to ride again. Since our must list was almost complete and the wait was not long, I used the rider swap pass and rode alone.

We explored the Tree of Life, which Xander always enjoys. He loves climbing on it for some reason and loves looking at the animal carvings. Even though Xander is not overly fond of 3D shows, we decided to take in It’s Tough to be a Bug. The show was about to start after our exploration. I figured we could always leave if Xander did not want to finish it, since that seemed to be the theme of the day. He does not like certain things about the show, so I try to shield him from those things. We sat in the front row, so he would not get sprayed with water. This was the first show all day that we made it through. Maybe our luck was turning around. When the “bugs exited,” I made sure to lift Xander’s back off the seat. That way, he did not get “stung.” Then, we were off.

We were all hungry, so we stopped for some late afternoon snacks. Crap and I got eggrolls, while Xander opted for a soft pretzel. The eggrolls were sold in a cart somewhere between Everest and the Safari. They were pretty good and fresh. Our picky son does not like eggrolls (and is allergic to eggs anyway), so Crap hiked somewhere to find the pretzel while the boys and I grabbed a seat. I forgot where he said he found it, but he was gone a long time. He ate his eggrolls while he hiked.

It is a tradition to get tattoos at a little cart in Africa. Xander received his first tattoo ever there and cried as if he was getting a real tattoo. He was not perfectly still for it either, so it was a little flawed. A few days after that initial one, he got another one at the Pirates league and cried when they put that on as well. Over the past year, he started loving them. Now, he gets them as often as we allow him to. I was curious to see how Connor would do with his first tattoo. Just as I suspected, Connor did fine. He just kept staring at it to figure out what it was. Since he was just staring at it and hardly moved, it did not have any flaws.

Connor is such an inquisitive kid, while Xander is a little more standoffish with new things (but not new people). Although, Xander makes me very proud with all of the rides that he tried first before deciding he did not like them. I am happy to report that he also tastes more foods that he refused to taste before. He calls it his trying challenge/test. It is cute. The tattoos both turned out great. They are a little pricy at about $9 each stick-on, but stay fresher looking longer than the cheaper ones.

The only other thing on our must list was to visit Mickey (and the others if time permitted). Since the lines were not long, we decided to watch the Festival of the Lion King. It was about 10 minutes away from starting. We got through It’s Tough to be a Bug, so we could make it through this one too right. Xander and Connor both seemed really into the show. Connor started squirming and fussing a little. Immediately, I started nursing. He did really well and was starting to fall asleep. I felt rumblings and heard some loud sounds from Connor’s belly. While enjoying the show, I was trying to see if my nearly sleeping baby needed a diaper change. The smell test did not work well, because it barely had a smell back when he was exclusively breastfed (as he eats food now and the smell caught up with him). Even though it was dark, I managed to sneak a peek. He was in dire need of an immediate diaper change.

We exited as quickly and quietly as we could. Other than Beauty and the Beast (which I decided to leave early in a panic to get to Fantasmic), we did not have to leave any shows early on previous park days. At AK, we had to leave three shows early. I guess the third time was not the charm or was it, since It’s Tough to be a Bug was the third show. Shockingly, the area was nearly empty when we entered the show, but it was booming despite the early exit. The line for the only changing table in the restroom was three people deep. That was the first time all week I’d seen anything like that. I did not want Connor to sit in it for that long, so I tried to find Crap. <<<That sentence is making me laugh so much right now. Hopefully, the line in the men’s room was not as long, I thought. He was nowhere to be found. I went back to the restroom to see that two of the three ladies in front of me were gone.

It took a while for the third lady to finish. Before I got him onto the changing table, the restroom filled with so many people. The Lion King show let out and everyone rushed over there. I finally got to the changing table. There was a long line for the restroom, but no one ever got behind me in line for the changing table. This means that I would have changed him at the exact same time if we stayed and finished the show. Oh well. Connor had a mini blow out, but everything was contained to the onsie. After I changed that and cleaned him up, I went in search of Crap and Xander.

I figured they were probably in a character line, but they were all so long at this point. They were not visible and Crap was not answering his phone. Connor and I found a bench at the top of the trails and waited for them. Next time, I will tell you where they were.

The two of them on the bed together is a precious photo!

I want to commend you on warning Xander and following thru with leaving the show. We follow a similar discipline style and it drives me CRAZY when parents give false threats and never follow thru (and to no surprise the kids don't listen!). Its not always easy being a parent but the reward of well behaved children is worth it (IMO!) It looks and sounds like Xander is a sweet and well behaved boy, a testament to your parenting!

I hope we have better luck with the shows, but I'm not too optimistic, with two littles in tow you never know what to expect!

Blow outs are never fun! At least the breastmilk only poops aren't too stinky, and I don't find them to stain too badly. How many changes of clothes did you bring for each boy each day?

Looking forward to hearing more!

Yay for making through It's Tough to be a Bug! We skipped Dinoland again on this trip. I'm glad that Xander tried Dinosaur!

Seems like we spent so much time criss-crossing the parks to find the only snack that Maddie wanted this trip! (usually popcorn) That was nice of Crap to go wandering to find Xander his pretzel.

I love the pictures of Connor trying to figure out his tatoo! So cute!

Sorry that you didn't make it throgh FoLK. Sounds like you saw most of it though.

Wonder where those boys wandered off to?

Finally caught up with all your updates. Don't have time to comment on anything specific, but I really do enjoy reading all the things you managed to do with a baby in tow. :)

No fun with the blowout. We had the same issue while we were on Living with the Land. After the ride, we rush him up to the restrooms by Soarin, there were 3 other people waiting for the changing table. Luckily, DH volunteered to take him to the men's room, you know, since there's no one ever using those tables:rotfl:. His diaper was so bad, all the fathers were giving him that look with a thumbs up, you know, the been there, done that look.
Since you guys didn't get to finish any of the shows, at least you'll have a few more things to look forward to for the next trip.

Thanks. I love that picture.

Thank you. Agreed. I remember standing in a very long line to see Santa at the mall a few days after we got back from this trip. A boy slightly younger than Xander was misbehaving through the line. The Mom kept saying over and over again that he would not see Santa if he did not behave. He kept misbehaving and still saw Santa. Why would kids behave when they can do as they please and get what they want anyway? Kids are always testing the limits to see what they can get away with, and Xander does usually get away with a little bit more while we are on vacation. That is probably why he tried that, but for his own safety he should not have stood. He is a very sweet boy and pretty well behaved (most of the time). You sound like my kind of Mama.

I hope you have better luck too. We had better days than that one, so I am sure you will too.

My change in diet did not sit well with his poor tummy on this trip unfortunately. You're right. The stains are not too bad. It is usually just a dingy yellow look that is hard to even see. I actually wish it did smell when he only drank milk. There were times that he sat in it for longer than he should of, because I could not smell it and he did not cry. Now that he eats as well, that is not an issue anymore!

Each day, we brought two extra outfits and onesies for Connor and only a backup shirt for Xander. There was only one day where we needed both outfits. Xander never used any of the backup shirts either. The only day he changed shirts was not because it was dirty but because he wanted to wear a new shirt he bought. I unpacked a lot of clean clothes when we got back to our house. We did bring backup clothes for Xander into the parks on the previous trip, because we did things like Kali River Rapids and the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground set where we knew he'd get wet.

I was glad that we made it through It's Tough to be a Bug, because it was the bright spot on the bad bay for shows. I cannot wait to see what you did on your AK day. Dinoland did seem to have more boys than girls in it.

Crap always goes out of his way to take care of us. He is so much more patient that I am. Xander loves popcorn too, but he never asked us for any while we were there.

I love the pictures of Connor staring at the tattoos as well. Even though they are a little blurry, I thought people may still like them.

Although I did not time it so I cannot be sure, I think we missed about ten minutes. There were three ladies in the changing table line (in addition to the lady using the table). I went looking for Crap and Xander for a while. When I returned, two of the three ladies were out of line. That left one lady in line. The final (third) lady who was in line was dealing with a blowout herself. She had already been changing her son for a while when the restroom overcrowded with people.

I love where they wandered off to. If I do not get there tonight, it may have to wait until Monday. Tomorrow is a very busy day.

Thanks Mel. I hope you're feeling well as I know I took a DIS vacation toward the end of my pregnancy. The exhaustion just got to me. I cannot wait to read about your trip with Claudia.

Earlier in the week as I stood behind one lady whose son also had a blow out, I remember thinking it is strange that Disney has one changing table in each bathroom. Standing in a ten minute line to change a diaper seems a little silly. Even though this only happened to us once during the whole week, it probably happens to others more often during peak times. Disney has to realize that a lot of kids in diapers go to Disney and maybe just maybe need to be changed around the same time. Each large bathroom should have two or three changing tables. It is okay for the smaller ones to only have one.

I am glad your DH was able to help you. Mine was nowhere to be found, but then again, he is usually nowhere to be found when Connor has a dirty diaper :lmao:.

Other than Nemo, we have seen all of the other shows before. Nemo is definitely going on my must list for next trip though.

Holy Moly, trying to catch up with so much. Were there that many desserts to choose from? I love fireworks. Its nice to see your kids really love one another. I like those tattos. With babies it is so unpredictable to know if they do okay in certain places. Those blow outs , gotta love them when they happen. Enjoying your TR, I will be caught up now.:cool1:

There was a decent amount of desserts, but Xander still had a hard time finding something to eat. It is always a lot of fun when they have blow outs. Kids really are unperdictable.

I'm doing well, but it's true that most nights I just feel too tired to keep up with all my subscriptions and make comments. So I come on the Dis as a "lurker", reading without signing in. ;) Today was hard though. I really did not sleep well, and when I did sleep I kept dreaming that I couldn't sleep. :crazy2: :headache: But went and bought most of the stuff we didn't get at the shower that we needed for Peanut, so I feel happy now. :)

I cannot wait to take that trip with Claudia. On top of the excitement of taking her first trip, there will be so many new things in Disney for us to see/experience! I was ready to put a ticker, but Ron prefers we wait until things are more certain.

Hopefully, you sleep better soon. It is hard to sleep during those last two months. Glad you're all set for Claudia.

It is a different experience doing WDW with a baby. You will love it.

Very nice picture of Xander playing at the Boneyard. It is always a good thing for a young kid to run around in a play area like the Boneyard at DinoLand USA.

Glad that he went on Dinosaur with Crap. Hopefully when he gets older, that he will want to ride it again when you go back to WDW. Has he ever ride Indy at DL?

At least you got to do ABL in the Tree of Life.

Great update to your TR.

Connor looks so interested in his tattoo! that is really a cute tradition. :)

Xander spent a lot of time in playgrounds on previous trip. This trip, he did it a lot less. I loke to see him playing.

Hopefully, he gets into all of the rides and does them with us. Indy has a 46" height requirement. He just barely cleared 44" at Disneyworld. We will check when we go to see if he grew two inches in two months, but I doubt he will. I will let you know.

I am glad we made it through A Bug's Life.

Thank you.

Thanks. Crap and I have already talked about what traditions they are going to make us stop when they get older. Hopefully, that is not one of them.

Jo’s recent pictures on another thread reminded me of a funny story that I promised to tell when I posted that squirrel picture on our Epcot day. All week, servers had been bringing a birthday cupcake at the end of breakfast. Xander never ate them, and we never took them with us. After our Donald’s Safari breakfast, the waiter noticed he did not eat his cupcake. The server offered to pack it up for him. It was finally his actual birthday, so the idea of him taking a bite out of the cake he was given was a good one or so we thought. We placed it underneath the stroller with our jackets.

After we exited Flights of Wonder, we noticed something stirring in the undercarriage of the stroller. Slowly, we removed the contents. We found the coffee cup the cake was placed into was eaten through. Most of the cake was missing. The cake that was not missing was all over the undercarriage of the stroller and all of the contents. Although I never saw the squirrel run out, we did hear and feel the scurry. The stroller shook a little as it exited. This was the first and last time we had snacks in our stroller. If we cannot eat them, we will toss them from now on.

Back to where we left off. I waited a little while longer at the top of the greeting trails. Xander came running straight at me. He was so excited. They just met Mickey, and Xander told me that they had a really great time. Wow. After all that time they were gone, they only met Mickey! At first, I was disappointed they were not there when I could have used Crap’s help. That was until I saw the Photopass pictures and noticed the most magical pictures of the whole trip. Then, I was only sad that I did not get to witness the moment in person.

The park was less than an hour from closing at this point. A lot of the people from the Lion King Show had fallen in line to see the characters along with the long lines that had already formed during the show. Xander had already seen all of the other characters at some point or the other throughout the week. He saw Mickey there, which is the one he really wanted to see. Feeling like all of must dos had been met, I let Xander pick our next course of action. We could fall into more character lines and hope to get a couple before the park closed. I did not see us getting all four, since the lines were too long. The other option was shopping.

Xander chose shopping. This is where he went a little over on his total shopping budget, but it was his actual birthday. Getting him quite a few things on his actual day made it feel more officially like birthday gifts. Our shopping trip wrapped rather quickly, and we reached the front of the park around 4:30pm. There was a short line for the bus, and a bus arrived within five minutes. Of course, we would finally have some bus luck on a day where our next appointment was an hour and a half away. We were headed to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and it is only a couple of miles from the park. The quick bus service made sense.

It was still a bit before five when we arrived, so we had over an hour to wait. We walked around the entire lobby and toured it. First, we waited around the television in the lobby where it was showing old Mickey Mouse cartoons. Xander was over this rather quickly. He loves Mickey, but he is more into the Clubhouse show. After wandering a little bit more, we found the hotel was hosting a craft project. It must have started right at 5pm, because we did not see it on our first lap. Xander joined in as I nursed Connor in a nearby chair. The craft project took about twenty minutes, but it was still around 5:30pm.

While Xander was doing his craft project, I noticed a Photopass Photographer was in front of the big tree. When he finished, we went over there. We talked for a while. She said that we were there during a slow period, and she would be happy to take pictures of us. There was no line, so she did a mini photo shoot in the hotel. Another group finally entered the line, and our photo shoot was over. This group was four fully grown men in pajamas with footsies like Connor wears. They had a mini photo shoot of their own, which Xander liked watching. He told me they were silly. She got some nice shots of us. Thanks to this, we only had about 15 more minutes to wait. We found some seating away from everything and waited there.

A few minutes before six, I noticed an older gentleman and a young woman setting up their cameras very near to where we were sitting. I was close enough that I could hear some of what they were saying. It seemed like she was new and he was training her. Knowing these were most likely the people we had the appointment with, I chose to wait until 6pm to approach them. At 6pm, I walked up and asked if they were there to take our pictures. We booked a private photo session through Disney. Our tradition is to get the kids’ pictures taken on their actual birthdays. Even though we were far from home, I did not want to break that tradition.

The man said he was just about to come looking for me when I approached him. He told me that we were lucky to get a shoot at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, because they do not do them anymore. Since I booked the appointment before they stopped, they honored the location request. They also stopped booking 6pm sessions, since there is not enough natural light in the winter time. Once again, they honored my time request, since I booked before the change. It was a very nice conversation, and he was a very nice man. The young woman was pretty quiet but seemed very nice as well.

We started with some family shots. Connor was in a great mood when we started, but was over having his picture taken very quickly. He was ready to eat. I told the photographer that Xander would take it from there. While I nursed Connor, Crap followed Xander and the photographers around. While they were packing up, Crap told me they were wonderful. They really got Xander to open up, and he had a lot of fun in the shoot. This made me happy, because Xander does not typically do well with professional shoots. His smile is a little fake looking, and he gets discouraged easily. We tried to tip them, but they were not allowed to take it. Since our appointment was so late, our CD would not be ready until the next day. Luckily, they allowed us to pick it up back at our own hotel.

We did not look at the images until we got back home. Most of them are blurry. I am not sure if this was due to the lack of lighting he mentioned or that he was training someone. Other than the blurriness, I can tell the images are magical. It just stinks that the picture quality of the free pictures was so much better than the ones we paid for. After seeing the pictures, I am glad they were not able to take tips. Even though they were wonderful people and great with Xander, the pictures really should come out well too. There are a few gems, so it was not a complete waste of time and money.

I love the pictures of Xander meetng Mickey! I would be a sad mama too if I missed that, but happy he got the moment of course!

I'll be sure to honour your no snack rule in the stroller, that would have made me a bit freaked!

I like the AKL photos, I agree some of the photopass ones are just as good as your session, however the 2nd family one from the paid session is priceless!

Dinosaur height requirement is 40" at the AK. Sometimes I am always wondering why Dinosaur height requirement is lower then Indy at DL. Sometimes I always forget what the height requirement are at the DLR since I don't have too many members of my party that can't ride the ride because of height requirements. Instead of Cars Land at DCA, what is Xander looking forward to the most for your next month trip?

Those photos of Xander and your family from the photopass are very nice.

Thanks for the heads up on the squirrels. I'll make sure my cupcake gets taken back to the car. I won't share a cupcake with my husband, I sure as heck won't share one with a squirrel!:lmao:

Your family pictures came out beautiful. I love the photopass photographers at AKL. They will always take more pictures than they really have to, all the pics I can get on the CD you know.

I must admit, DH and I had photos in our jammies in front of the Christmas tree at WL when we stayed there a couple of years ago. The pictures came out so cute. I would recommend it to anyone staying at the deluxes where they have photographers. I probably wouldn't be getting on the bus to go have them done.:rotfl2:

Ok, first of all, I would have LOST MY MIND if there was a squirrel in my stroller. I'm not much of a nature lover anyway, but living in a college town has made me really really dislike the not-afraid-of-humans squirrels. Lesson learned. No. Snacks. In. Stroller. Yikes!!

This was the day of amazing photos for your family! Those pics of Xander and Mickey are so cute.

Isn't that the way, when you don't need to be there quickly a bus pulls right up. Damn Murphy's Laws. Happened to us over and over on the last trip.

That's really nice that they let you keep your time and location for the photos. AK is really nice choice for pics-especially at Christmas.

I thought that maybe the blurry was just my computer. How disappointing! Other than the blurriness there are some really nice pictures. I love the one of all 4 of you that the PP stationed in the lobby got. The pros got some nice smiles out of Xander! I totally understand the "fake smile" thing. Maybe it's the age. That's exactly why most of our PP pics are bad. Mads was doing this "show you all my teeth" smile that's really unnatural. The family pics that he pros got are really nice. Were those blurry too? Didn't look it to me. :thumbsup2

I am happy he got the moment and on his birthday too. Awesomeness.

We saw squirrels at three of the four parks too, so I am guessing this happens to guests at all four parks.

I adore the family shot you are referring to. Hands down, I prefer the way we look in shots we paid for. The quality of the free pictures is better though. They are not blurry or overlit.

It is silly that the rides are so similar yet there is a six inch difference in who can ride. Crap and I both like Indy. I always thought it was funny that the Matterhorn had a 35" height limit. He rode that at 2.5 and gave some fellow riders a thrill. Xander is most looking forward to Connor's birthday party. He knows that a lot of family members were coming to Disneyland for that. We were going to have it at Club 33. My husband's contact was not able to come through. Disney just opened up the waiting list, so we can try to get our own membership. It will not help us with this trip. Maybe in 15 years when the waitlist is up, we can go. Now, I am thinking of doing the party at Ariel's Grotto or Wine Country, so everyone can also get a World of Color Fastpass.

Thanks. I was happy we got the best photos of the trip that day, since it was Xander's actual birthday.

You're welcome on the squirrel tip. Crap does not like sharing food or desserts. He will not let me taste anything of his and tells me to order my own if I want something. I was not happy about sharing with the squirrel either. It really made a mess, and our jackets were dirty.

The photopass photographer at AKL was very nice. She insisted on our mini photo shoot, because she knew we were waiting for the event photographer. I guess the photopass people used to do those back in the day until they took them away from them. She said it is nice to do shoots and she missed it.

Xander did not think they were silly for the way they were dressed. He actually liked the pajamas a lot. It was the way they were posing and acting. I think they were trying to act like little kids for the shoot. They did not do it in an obnoxious way but rather a silly way. I see the benefit of doing taking pictures in jammies. Then, they look like Christmas morning pictures. They were probably staying at that hotel. If they were not, then they probably packed the jammies in their bags. I got a visual of someone riding the bus in pajamas just now. :rotfl2: Thanks for that.

:thumbsup2

I know what you mean. After it happened, I was just glad the kids were not in the stroller during the robbery. Crap was also concerned that any germs it was carrying could have been transferred. We cleaned the stroller the best we could, and did not use those jackets for the rest of the trip. I brought extras and hate doing laundry on vacation. It is sad that we had to learn that lesson, especially since Xander had not been eating the cupcakes all week anyway. At least we know now.

Thank you. I love the pictures from this day.

We had such bad transportation luck on this trip that we are definitely renting a car next time. It was so funny when that bus pulled up within 5 minutes. At least, the things we did at the resort were much better than standing at the bus stop. We actually had better luck on our previous stay at CBR and great luck our first stay at CBR. Knowing that is where you stayed, I cannot wait to read about it.

I think the paid photos had 44 shots. About 35 were blurry. There were some good ones that were not blurry. The best shots were all blurry except for one. It was worth the money we paid for the one awesome shot, because Xander does not do well with photo shoots. We just had pro pictures taken of the boys again yesterday and once again they did not do well. These kids take amazing candid shots though. Go figure. I still have not printed them yet, but I think all of the family shots are blurry. They look less blurry than the solo Xander ones, because some of those are really blurry. The blurrier ones had some better poses, but I did not want to post them.

It is weird that both rides are similar and use the same vehicles for the ride. So it doesn't make sense why the height requirements is 6 inches apart from Dinosaur and Indy. I always thought that Dinosaur is more intense then Indy, but after riding Dinosaur on my last trip and Indy all the time at DL, I would say that Indy is a little bit more tense then Dinosaur.

It will be very nice to ride the Matterhorn this summer. But I might not be able to ride the Matterhorn if we do the sneak peek on Monday and skip the opening day trip. I am hoping that we can get both the sneak peek and go to the media day party which I told you about that contest. I am still wondering what the new height requirement for the Matterhorn is now that you have to have your own seat instead of sharing with another person like the old bobsleds. Some people say that the new height requirement is close to Space Mountain & BTMRR, so that would be around 40".

Glad to hear that Xander is looking forward to Connor's birthday next month. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't going to eat at Club 33 for Connor's birthday. I was really looking forward to hear from your experience at Club 33. Those memberships to that club are very expensive. So I am not planning on getting a membership for Club 33. I would like to, but I have a small budget to spend when I go to the Disney parks.

Remember that Ariel's Grotto is not having the WoC dining package after June 15th. Only WCT will be the only place to get the WoC dining FP. It was a bummer that AG is not having the WoC dining package anymore, but you can still have breakfast, lunch or dinner and of course to meet the characters at AG. Here is the link about it. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/04/dinner-with-ariel-and-her-princess-friends-coming-soon-to-ariels-grotto-at-disney-california-adventure-park/

You should think about making reservations at the Carthay Circle restaurant. Reservations are not available right now, but I am planning on getting a reservation at the restaurant.
