Hello! Thank you for stopping by and reading my first-ever PTR! :welcome: I hope that in the next 11 months, I can work out all the things going around in my head and gather some great DIS advice from everyone out there. One of my favorite parts of the DIS is reading everyone’s PTR and TR’s and seeing all the great pictures! We’re hoping to have a great time in the World. It will be my first time staying on the grounds and I’m SO excited about doing that.

The Cast:

Hi, I'm Jillian! (Hi, Jillian! :wave2:) I’m the master planner of the group. I’m 29, will be 30 in August, and mother to a fun, high-spirited 3 year old and wife of my DH, Nate.
Here I am in all my Photo Booth glory:

Event Planner by trade, so planning, planning and over-planning is in my DNA. Born and raised Wisconsinite, currently living in Milwaukee. I love scrapbooking, photography and reading. I’ve fallen in love with WDW since our last visit there. I’ve been to Disney twice, once with my parents and brother in 2001, and again with my DH and his family (parents and two brothers) in December of 2009.

Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride: Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion
Favorite Character: The Muppets

This is DH:

Currently unemployed, looking hard for a job. Part-time stay at home dad. He’s been to Disney a couple times as a kid (when asked I get vague, non-descript answers, so I’ll just summarize ;)) and with the family in 2009. He thinks I’m crazy for liking Disney so much, but is looking forward to going again, even though he hates to admit it. It was actually his idea to get matching shirts made.

Favorite Park: DHS
Favorite Ride: Tower of Terror
Favorite Character: Carl Fredrickson from Up

The star of the show, Eli, my 3 year old:

IMG_4447.jpg

Loves to have fun, laugh and cause some mischief. Loves anything Disney Pixar, (especially anything Toy Story), classic Disney movies and calls the Disney Princesses his “ladies”. Yeah, we’re going to have fun with this one in 10 years ;) He’s looking forward to going to “the Disney Wowld” and since he has no concept of time, he thinks that we’re getting on a plane soon to go.

Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride: Tea Cups, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean
Favorite Character: Woody, Sully, Mickey and Belle

Joining us for this trip:

My Mom and Dad. They’ve been to Disney twice before, once with my brother and I in 2001 and once by themselves in 2006. They’ve previously stayed at POR, and it was on their recommendation that we booked there again. They’ve been married for 32 years and are very laid back and super attentive grandparents. I’m looking forward to some alone time in the World with DH while they hang out with DS.

Mom:
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Ride: Pirates of the Caribbean
Favorite Character: Cinderella

Dad:
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Ride: Space Mountain
Favorite Character: Sully

How this Trip Came to Be

Our 2009 trip started as DH’s family wanting to take us all to Mexico for a relaxing beach vacation. Anyone with a 2 year old knows that the words “relaxing” “beach” and “toddler” are never together for a reason. :rotfl: After some discussion, we suggested Disney and everyone was on board. :cheer2: DH’s parents have a great timeshare-like group and we were able to get a 3 bedroom condo in Windsor Palms, right outside of Disney. We were there from December 5th-12th. The thing about DH’s family is, they’re not planners and they don’t like schedules. They’re also picky about where they eat and a little slow moving in the morning. Let’s just say with DS in tow, DH and I got more than frustrated on numerous occasions not being able to get up and go as everyone was dragging in the morning. After we made the commitment to do things “on our own” we had a much better time. It just ended up a lot of times that they wouldn’t want to leave the condo until 11:30 and then find somewhere to have a sit-down lunch (We had no ADR’s….NONE. Didn’t even know something like that existed. This is LONG before I discovered the DIS.) We wouldn’t be going around the parks until 1:30-2:00pm most days and then everyone would be ready to leave around dinner. Everyone knows how crazy parks are at that time of day, when you’re just starting out…. SO FRUSTRATING!!!:eek: I promised I'd never go to WDW with out some semblance of a plan again. To illustrate just how lost we were, here's a picture of my FIL meeting Alice. We came around the backside of the UK in Epcot and didn't realize there was a line to meet her. :rolleyes1 He kind of photobombed her....see, she's pointing out the line...oops!

IMG_0792.jpg

We did manage to eat at The Plaza, Grand Floridian Café, and Restaurant Marrakech. DH, DS and I also took a night alone (at my suggestion) and did MVMCP.

Soooooo….

During the trip, DH says to me, “you know, this would be so much better with your parents.” (Shocking, I know!) They’re more on our schedule, natural early risers, easy going and wanting to go with the flow. I told him that long before we suggested it to his parents, they’d talked about wanting to take us to Disney as a family, and they’d love to do it sometime. Flash forward to November 2010, DS’s 3rd birthday. My mom and I get to talking about how we’d never planned on Disney yet and how I was itching to go again. She suggested I look into what prices were like and price some things out and when they returned from their trip to NOLA to visit my brother, they’d see what was doable for their budget, as they offered to pick up a majority of the tab. This is what brought me to the DIS (and MouseSavers and AllEars). After a lot of legwork, we finally booked in the beginning of December for December 3-10th, 2011. The dates are a little flexible. I’d like to have another day in there, and if there’s any special offers that are contingent on days around there, we’d be willing to adjust to take advantage of that. We will be in 2 rooms at POR, DDP and 7 day tickets with PH. We’ve always had PH at Disney and we use them. DS is an excellent traveler and very flexible so we park hopped a lot. We added the DDP because we didn’t want to think about $$ (except for tips, etc) and I like that it will afford us the opportunity to go to places I don’t think we’d go to if we were paying OOP. We plan on ordering some groceries in from Garden Grocer for our room, so we can do breakfast there.

Our Plan (for now)

#1 Fly in Early on the 3rd (Hopefully on Southwest—Free Bags!!) ME to POR. Chilling at DTD.
#2 Haven’t figured out what parks/days yet.
#3 Places we want to eat: Le Cellier, Coral Reef, Brown Derby, Sci-Fi, Biergarten, The Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey’s. My mom really wants to go to CRT, but that’s still up in the air. None of these are set in stone.
#4 We will be doing the MVMCP on Thursday the 8th. We’d gone on that same Thursday in 2009 and had a blast. It wasn’t overly crazy and we got to do a lot of things that we didn’t get to do during the day. I also loved the castle all lit up and the snow on Main Street. You’d think being from Wisconsin that snow wouldn’t thrill me like it does, but how often can you say that you saw snow at Disney while looking at the castle! :goodvibes

IMG_2146.jpg

#5 We want to get matching tie-dye shirts (again, DH’s idea) and I’ll be looking into that in the next couple months.
#6 I’ve purchased the Unofficial Guide and with that, the subscription to the Touring Plans website and Lines iPhone app. I like to look at that during the day when I’m bored and dreaming of Disney, thinking, “Wow, I could be in line at Pirates right now.”
#7 We’ve talked about doing 1 date night for my mom and dad (we’ll have DS) and one for us (they’ll take him). So I’ll look into making ADR’s for my parents and then for us.
#8 IF there is some excellent PIN or code/deal that we can get into a deluxe or deluxe villa, we might take advantage of that. I’ll be calling to see what’s available villa wise (the CM gave me great advice on when to call to check) and we’ll see from there. It’s kind of a hope/wish for all of us to stay at WL or VWL. Again, we have a cabin in the northwoods of Wisconsin and our #1 of resort is a lodge themed. We’re weird, what can I say.

In the meantime….

I printed out large-print calendars online today and with my Mickey punch from scrapbooking, I’m going to punch out a bunch of paper so that he can understand the concept of when we’re going and have a countdown to the big dates. We'll put a Mickey head on the calendar every night before bed.

I’m going to continue to research, read and salivate over people’s dining reports and the AllEars Restaurants page. I would like to have 1 ADR/day for our TS meals.

I have what I call “THE BINDER.” It contains all our information, invoices, and maps. I ordered and received the Disney Planning DVD and just saw on the Disney website that you can order free customized maps, so I did that as a surprise for DS. Thought it would be a fun activity to look over with him one cold Wisconsin night.

So, any suggestions are MORE than welcome here...people traveling with grandparents and a pre-schooler before? Things to do that you think are "magical"? Things to avoid so we don't kill each other on Day #2? :wizard:

im so in and number 1 yah!!im going dec 11 too so i had to jump in and see what you come up with!! your little one is too cute!!

Count me in! :)

Your little guy is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO adorable! Love the pic of him and his sulley :)

Joining in for another Wisconsinite TR!

I clicked on the FB link in your profile and see you are MU Basketball fan. I work at MU and went to grad school here...

Yep, we are all big MU fans. My sisters and I all either went there or go there right now. :thumbsup2

Woohooo! We are going this December too! My husband and I have been to Disney several times, but only once around Christmas, and we didn't have the kids then, so this year it will be a super trip for sure. I have not done the MVMCP, how was it? Was it really worth the money? We usually go in October and go to the MNSSHP which is a TOTAL blast! Also thinking about the Candlelight Processional while we are there. If your looking for a "date night" for your mom and dad, i would suggest Victoria and Alberts at the GF. Its more of an adult themed dinner with a dress code and the food is deeee-lish! (I think its Victoria and Alberts.....now I am second guessing)....anyway...I look forward to planning together!!! LOL

I'm such a sucker for Disney during the holidays. I just LOVE the decorations. I watched the HGTV special about how they decorate for the holidays and thought it was just the most fascinating thing!
I've read about V&A's and if we save the $$, I think that's where we are going to go. There are a couple others on our short list (Narcoossees, Citrocos, The Wave) so it will be a tough choice!

Where are you thinking about staying in December?

Hi just read your ptr, were booked for dec 12/4-12/10 hope it won't be too cold. I read that you plan on attending MVMCP on dec 8th are you sure that will be one of the party dates for 2011? If so, do you know when they will start selling these tickets? Btw been to wow 6 times, but this is first dec trip and will be taking our dgd, who will be 3 on dec 9 2011:goodvibes

Hi. My names Ty. I have been to Disney in December in 2007, 2009 and 2010. I always go the first week and the past 2 years that I have gone Disney has had the QSDP free. you can pay the difference and upgrade to the table service.
I am going again this December. Dec 1-10 So I will follow along with your PTR and you keep you company until the time comes. It's so far away but I am so excited. I like your idea of th countdown for your little one. I'm a scrapbooker too and have the Mickey punch, I might need to copy your idea, although I don't have any little ones going on this trip, I will do anything Disney to keep me busy.:lmao:

My sister Bo has never been to Disney and has finally agreed to go with me this time. You and her would really hit it off, she's a planner too. I will send her over to your PTR, maybe she can pick up some pointers from you.;)

Hi, joining in here! I think it's law that you must follow other Wisconsinites TR's:lmao: I have THE binder too! It's really something, page protectors, labled inserts for parks, ADR's, travel buget, packing, & itinerary. I designed a nice cover, and if anyone touches it, I must fix what they messed up! Crazy I know!
Carey

I love my binder!! Every time we make a payment, I print off the new invoice with the new balance highlighted and it goes in 'the binder'. It's just so nice to have one spot for all my info.
I took a break from the Dis and being obsessed for a bit, but now I'm back. It will help get me through this winter that wants to just hang on.....
I think when we are all together Easter weekend, I will make everyone sit down and we'll talk ADR's, trying to make sure that everyone gets to go to at least 1 place they want to.....

The Mickey punch was a great way for me to recycle a bunch of old paper I'd had for years and the different types and colors of paper make his calendar look cool. We're two months into it and he still loves being about to do "Mickey Heads" before bedtime.

I can't wait to countdown with everyone. Like I said in PP, I took some time off from planning/stalking the Dis, but I think my excitement level is back up again, so I am back to having the Dis tab open in my browser all day! I'm so glad you'll be there the same time as us, and I'd love to read your sister's PTR, let me know which one she is :):cool2:

Hi, just stumbled in here. We're going to be leaving the day you get there, and we'll have a 22 month old in tow so I'm always looking for people in a similar situation to steal... I mean borrow ideas from.

Looks like you're off to a great start planning. I can already tell it will be less stressful than the past trip with the in laws. I love the FIL "photobombing" Alice story... I can only imagine what some of the people waiting in line thought about that one.:rotfl2::lmao: Looking forward to seeing more!

Hey! We're planning to go down to Disney at the same time.

Disney during the holidays is always so beautiful.

While I've never been to V&A my parents used to go there every time we went to Disney. However, Citricos was the highlight meal of my last vacation to Disney.

Can't wait to read more. (=

Eli was just 2 when we went last time, so if you need any suggestions or someone to vent with, I'm here. We are lucky in the fact that he's an excellent traveler and can sleep anywhere (yes, literally anywhere. My Facebook is loaded with mobile uploads of places he's slept :)), so that helped us out.

Good luck with the little one! Can't wait to plan together!
