Any advice on doing Capri from Naples? Places to see? Is the port we arrive in the same one the hydrofoil leaves out of?

We are also on the 11 night med. Our ABD trip takes us to Naples, then we take a boat over to Capri. Not sure if that helps or not:goodvibes!

We took a hydrafoil from Sorrento right to the ship (really close anyway). I would imagine Capri is possible from there also. This is what we plan to do this time. I am thinking it is going to be alot more relaxing then the taxi ride from h e double toothpicks we took last year to Positano.

Your ship should dock in the same area as the hydrofoil docks--fairly short walk, just ask for directions.

Be sure to buy a round trip ticket so you don't have to stand in line again on Capri and give yourself a bit of a time cushion on return. It is about a 45 minute crossing.

Capri is a gorgeous island. From the dock, you take a funicular up to the main village of Capri with lovely winding streets, cafes and (expensive) shops. You can visit the Gardens of Augustus in Capri Town for a stroll and the views of the Faraglioni. From there, you can grab an open air taxi for the short trip to Anacapri which is a smaller and less touristy village. In Anacapri, be sure to see the Villa San Michelle built by Dr Axel Munthe (read his fascinating book, "The Story of San Michelle"). And take the chairlift up to Mont Salero for the incredible views.

But my favorite thing to do on Capri is hire a boat (with driver/guide) on the dock at the base of the funicular. You can circumnavigate the island and stop to swim off the boat in crystal clear water; you can sun on the front of the boat and poke in the amazing colorful grottoes. Seeing the island from the water gives you a whole new perspective. It is well worth the cost and will be one of the most memorable times of your cruise.

Enjoy the Med!

Be sure to visit Carthusia for some of the best perfume in the world! I'm stocking up in July ;)

We plan to take the hydrofoil from Naples then back to Sorrento. From what I have read, it's like PP said, you can walk from the ship to the hydrofoil.

Can't wait...I am the most excited about going back to Capri.

How are you planning on going from Sorrento to the ship? Taxi or boat?

We are actually planning to do Capri until around 1 p.m. then head to Pompeii for a couple of hours, so we will be taking a train from Pompeii back to Naples. If I were going from Sorrento to Naples, however, I would take a boat.

HTH!

Actually, the ABD takes you to Sorrento and you go to Capri from there. You go *back* from Capri to Naples & the ship. (Of course, that's assuming it's the same as last year!)

Sayhello

I think the ABD is probably a great tour but we're doing the ports on our own. I'm hoping for any info on making our port stop in Naples great. Since we have already been to Positano we're thinking of Capri this time.

Did you do this all in one day? Impressive!

If you only did 1 thing in Capri (or only spent 4 hours there), what would be your ideal itinerary?

we took (on our non-disney vacation) the train from rome to naples and the circumvesuvia (sp?!?) train from naples to sorrento. then train to pompeii and hydrofoil/ferry to capri. capri is beautiful but we didn't have the time to do the funicular and my main suggestion would be to go and buy LOTS of sandals!

the train was a piece of cake. or pizza i guess. sorrento is gorgeous - i could spend all my days there and at pompeii! have fun!

If I had only a one day cruise stop in Naples, I would choose to go one only place (Capri, Pompeii or Sorrento) and really enjoy it. Please don't try to rush from one place to another; you will spend more time traveling than touring.

Getting to and from Capri will eat up at least two hours of your day, so if you decide to go there, spend the day and get a feel for this special island. As I said, my one favorite thing to do is to hire a boat on Capri. If you are on a Med cruise dashing from one port to another, the time you would spend relaxing on and swimming in the beautiful waters around Capri and learning about the island from your Caprese driver/guide will be truly memorable amidst all the buildings and museums you will see in your city tours.

Caio!

Do you remember what the costs aprox where for hiring a boot to round the isle and take a swim lets say for a afternoon?

Thnx!

We just returned from a Med cruise this Monday and we went from Naples to Capri. It was very easy.

To get to Capri, head across the cruise terminal to the hydrofoil station; the trip across the Bay of Naples takes 50 minutes each way, and boats dock at Marina Grande. Companies we want are the ones that do the jet boats, they are faster. If you do an internet search, you can find the boat schedule so you can plan the right time to leave the ship.

When you leave the port entrance, go to the left. The ticket office for the hydrofoils is less than a block away. We got off the ship, walked towards the street area and the ferry office was to our left right where the ferries depart.

Once in Capri, you can take the funicular, a bus or an open air taxi to Capritown and Anacapri. If you take the bus, the cost is 1 Euro and you pay the driver. The taxi rates are set for the island so it is the same for every taxi.

One of the best things we did that day was take the chair lift from Anacapri to Mount Solara - it was a fun ride and had wonderful views. If you have older children, they would love it.

Also, in Capri get a gelato from Buonocore gelateria in the town. Caprilu is a lemon cream flavor that is amazing!

I would also recommend against combining Capri with Pompeii. There is too much travel time and you'll take a lovely relaxing day in Capri and turn it into a stressful day of transportation. Pompeii is wonderful too (we did it on an earlier trip) but honestly if you only have around an hour there, you won't really get into the ruins.

Enjoy your time in Capri, it is beautiful.

Totally agree with visiting the Buonocore gelateria, follow the smell of fresh waffles :) Their pistachio ice cream is a taste sensation not to be missed. That was the best gelato we had in Italy, closely followed by Gelateria Primavera in Sorrento (actually i'm not sure I could pick a favourite between these 2, I might need to do further taste testing :rotfl2:)

All of the restaurants in Capri are fairly expensive. Expect to pay 5 euros for a glass of soda.Alcoholic drinks are very expensive. However I cannot really recommend one as they are all more or less the same. We usually pick which ever one has space as they can get very busy. Can anybody tell me that if you are getting the hydrofoil to Sorrento from Naples what is the best direction to head in once you get off of the hydrofoil?. Where in Sorreento would you go?.

Thankyou
