From Europe to Africa in America - A Sisters' Expedition

I too would like to hear the GERMAN Lawyer Joke:rotfl2:As for the AMERICAN language I had my problems when I came over from ENGLAND :lmao:We have some different words that have a whole different meanung here in the States :lmao::lmao:

Magdalena I soo remember the PUB gardens , children under 14 were not allowed in a room that had a bar so many had gardens or you sat in the car!!:lmao:

Ah, that well known Epcot tantrum! Been there, done that! :goodvibes

I never even really thought about that term, "throw a tantrum" - thinking about the crazy grammar would make me laugh and end the tantrum as well!! I wonder if that could work on Henry when he is throwing one??? ;)

Thank you for posting pics of your Japan gummy candy, I'll keep an eye out for it and try some! I've wanted to buy candy there for several trips but am generally intimated since I haven't a clue what I would be getting!

Love both your shirts!!!

Brook, I thought I might have missed to reply to your post and went back and checked and it seems like this was the case! I am sorry for that, it wasn't intended!!

I thought you could relate to my tantrum... I remember when I read about your Christmas trip when you had this moment when playing the tour guide for everyone was just too much for you - that was similar to my tantrum I think. But you were under much more pressure then than me!!

I am not so sure grammer would be the thing to get a tree year old out of a tantrum!! :lmao:

The Japanese gummy candy was very nice! They have quite a variety and you just need to look for the small white paper lables which are on them. There it states in English what it is as well as all the ingredients. I guess they are not allowed to sell food without it being labled in English, it's the same her in Germany, all imported food needs to have at least a small lable listing the ingredients in German.

Yes, there are some real dangers!! One thing we found very amusing as teenagers was being warned not to use the British word for eraser in the US since it means something very different there... :scared1:

I am glad that we were there in the summer, so the garden was great! :goodvibes

What a lovely memory! I looked up Nordhorn, it seems to be very close to the Netherlands - more or less the other end of Germany from where I live. :goodvibes Nemo was extremely popular here in Germany, I think it is still the best known Pixar film here.

I recently looked up some movie statistics and discovered how hugely different the German market seems to be from the US. For example Ratatouille was way more successful here than Cars while it was the other way around in the US. And Rapunzel earned much more money than Toy Story 3 here in Germany... :confused3

Yes, it's very close to the Netherlands...She is a teacher and has as many Dutch students as German.
You are correct about the 2 markets being different regarding the movies...She has raved about Rapunzel, couldn't wait to see it, but didn't love Toy Story as much. I find it interesting the differences between the 2 markets..I love to know the reason why, something to ponder if I'm bored:laughing:

Don't ponder it too much!! :rotfl:

I enjoyed Rapunzel a lot, but I thought Toy Story was by far the better film! :goodvibes I guess my taste must be "corrupted" by hanging out on a mainly American message board. :goodvibes

I think some of it might have to do with the fact that the films are dubbed into German. :confused3

Phew, I was finally able to sit quietly for a few minutes wit my coffee and read your last update without interruption.

A few thoughts:

I am always disappointed the Nemo ride too. I always get excited and say to myself: Maybe this time will be different, and I"ll see soemthing, but I never do. The kids enjoy it, though, so we always do it. I kinda like the queue better than the ride, in fact.

Ahhh, too back Kathrarina- you are such a quickie. Sniffing Figment always brings us endless amounts of laughter and smiles for hours!!

Tantrums are a measure of how much you are actually enjoying your trip. One big blow out, is probably a pretty good indication that you have had a lot of fun- in fact, maybe too much fun. Time for a dive into the Ditch!!

Boats across the lagoon: S.L.O.W!! Never have taken one, but my kids did once. I beat them across by a mile.

Tostones?? I've never heard plaintains called that. Sorry yours were dry and icky. The one food that took the "never again" prize home. They are VERY tasty if done up right- as fritters or just cooked in butter and brown sugar!!

You're RIGHT!! Pubs can be a bit unkempt looking. maybe because everyone is always having too much fun to notice or care about the floors or unwiped tables. The one in EPCOT sadly lacks the the overwhilming reek of beer spilled everywehre too.

I LOVE your balloon picture!!! I'm sure you mom and dad have it displayed somewhere!!

:surfweb: sounds good! I have been thinking about calling you when I see you online in Skype, but always think you are most likely busy with something anyway. But perhaps we can manage to talk once you are a bit more settled? :goodvibes

Same thought here about the queue! Since I never had to wait for more than two minutes for this ride, I really don't mind it, though!

She is pretty smart! The first time I rode Figment, I had a head cold and had not realized yet that I had arrived at the stage where I lost my sense of smell. I commented to my friend after the ride that I thought that there was going to be the skunk smell, but I was glad that they did not make this smell in the ride - she looked at me like this:  She had smelled it! :lmao: To this day I never got the full load of it! :goodvibes

That's a good way to put it! But I really hope that we will avoid it during our DLP trip!! Which reminds me - I am should post a little something about that trip...

I guess it is a Latin American name? I love plantains, but not made this way... :confused3

That's another smell I can be very happy about not encountering as well! :thumbsup2

I have to tell you:

Anara was reading your update with me, and instantly recognized you. So she got our her crayons, and put on her imagination. She drew a pretty picture of "Germany in Disneyland". She drew some cobblestone streets, a person with a couple of heart balloons and some stepple-topped buildings. I thouught is was so cute, and desperately wish I had a camera to show you. But anyway, thought you'd think it was fun too.

Your always full of good information!! :rotfl:

The bus stops for the parks are often the furthest away from the entrance, but every park bus stop has a list of all the destination and where the stops are. Only the MK doesn't have them, there you have to go to the TTC.

As far as I know, the busses have always been there. I am sure I took one in 2007 already. I know that a lot of people aren't aware of them, that's why I wanted to talk about them in a bit more detail. I think the DHS to Epcot front entrance bus is new, though. I used to hang out a lot on the Transportation board here on the DIS that's why I know all this.

I didn't know this. This will be so helpful!

P.S.I love your socks Katharina :lovestruc I always have cold feet so I use my Winnie the Pooh tote socks all the time. Don't know if you have tote's in Germany but they are really warm socks you find in the store around winter time and they have rubber lines on the bottom of them so you don't slip. Mine since they're Winnie the Pooh have honey pots on the bottom:cloud9:Had them since I was a teen and I love them so much. I will have to look for socks next time we go:thumbsup2

Hi girls! I LOVE this photo-

Your parents must have loved it! :goodvibes

Magdalena- what are your dates in November again? I had to switch our dates by one day, because we saved sooooo much money for the five of us- Over $500 pp if we went Tuesday to Sunday....$205 pp if we go Weds to Monday! :scared1: They do like to mess with NJ people during NJ week in Disney! :headache: Anyway....I really, REALLY hope this doesn't mess up our plans!!!

weired double post - I edited this one and then it appeared as a second post - see below...

How sweet!! I would love to see the picture! I hope you will get a new camera soon! :goodvibes Are you still thinking of getting a SLR?

Your always full of good information!! :rotfl:

I try to help!! :lmao:

That's indeed good information! I don't know why, but knowing my possibilities of transportation has always been important to me. :thumbsup2

I heard you can rent night vision googles :3dglasses from AKL. Have you ever done this? If you have how much was it and how did you enjoy it? Was it worth the price?

I have never heard that you can rent them, but they do have them every night when you walk back beyond the pool- you line up and take turns, the CMs help you locate the animals- and, it is VERY cool! And free!

Hope I haven't offended by answering! :flower3:

Just caught up on the last couple updates. What an awesome balloon picture of the two of you - I'd say that's a framer for sure:thumbsup2

I love that you two can laugh about the tantrum. We all lose it every once in a while, but you just have to shake it off and turn it into a joke. Sometimes that's easier said than done, but you two seem to get along very well for sister and traveling partners!

Hi joining in and catching up...
-I'm loving the way you even took food pics on the plane!
-The sunrise pics are fab!
-I love how you made the sauce and salad cups in the pulled pork pic look like a mickey head as well!
-luvin the character pics from rope drop at Epcot as well esp the one of Donald on his own!

Oh my gosh really? You just made my day:jumping1: My husband's dream resort is AKL and I want to make it something to really remember. It cost a lot as you know so I really think this will be a one time thing. I'm actully going to surprise him with it and on top of that I'm getting a savannah view. I just hope I can keep it from him!:rolleyes1 As I'm not a good liar at all and start laughing:lmao:

We still have a long way to go until our trip so I really have not searched for stuff yet. I know very little about AKL except little bits here and there. So anything you can post I am most grateful.

This is a very friendly and informative thread about the AKL. Ask away there and you will get lots of answers!

You are right - they are not for rent, only at the pool! :thumbsup2

Tiggrbaby, I was just about to post the same suggestion! :goodvibes

Kleese, don't be hesitant to hop into the thread that was suggested, its a nice bunch of people there and sometimes it goes a bit off topic. But the people there really love and know AKL very well.

One of my suggestions would be to research all the different activities offered at AKL - I really should post my activities schedule, even though it is a bit outdated now. And explore all the different areas of the resort, there are different outlooks to the savanna and you can see different things from there. Also, talk to the CMs. The ones stationed at the outlooks are mostly from African countries and are really interesting to talk to!

October/November trip is going to be October 26 to November 11, so I (or possibly we) am leaving on Friday - should still give us the opportunity to meet! :goodvibes However, no flights booked yet, so this might still change a bit according to pricing (just as it was for you). However, I really don't want to change it to leaving on Thursday already. :sad2:

Yes, we get along very well - now as adults! My mother sometimes was rather desperate because we would fight so much as kids!! We always had times when we would play together very peacefully, but very often we did not... I sometimes wonder wether this might be the reason that we get along so well know, we have already done all the fighting when we were kids! :goodvibes

Hi petals :welcome: to our TR!!

I am glad that you are enjoying the TR so far! Rope drop at Epcot is very neat when you get a space in the first row and get to see all the characters! :goodvibes
