Frogmommy's "Time for a change" thread - comments welcome

Hi all-

Hi Jen, Jamie, Amy, and Beth- Ty all for your comments. Unfortunately at today's official weigh in I was up 1 lb, but that's ok. I've been doing much better with everything this past week and I hope if I continue I will have better results next Sunday.

Have a good week everyone!

That pesky 1lb will be gone before you know it. The best thing is that you have been doing better and that's what counts the most!

Keep it up!

Hi-

Well I actually have time for a real journal posting today! It's about time.

I feel like everything is back on track now after the holidays, diet wise and just in general. DH is back at work, DS is back in preschool and everything is rolling along. I've been running myself ragid trying to set up a workshop for the organization I volunteer with, teaching, and taking yet another online class. So, status quo.

I have a job interview coming up as well. I have to go back to work full time in the fall. I'm having a hard time with the idea. I'm ready to go back to work in many ways. I'm 36 so I know it's time to start focusing more on my career, and I'm definetely ready to eliminate some of the debt we have built up the last year. BUT in my heart I think it's too soon to leave my DD. I know I am lucky that I've been able to make staying home work as long as I have, and I am so thankful. However, I know it's too early for her. She will be just over 2 in the fall. She would be much better off if I could hold out for another year, but it's not possible. My DS was also 2 when I went back to work for a year, and boy was it rough. We had a wonderful caregiver who kept kids in her home, but even so it was a very difficult time for us all. Too make matters worse about the current situation I am not sure if our caregiver will have space for DD. Child care in SC is adequate at best. I don't know what I'll do if DD can't be with the CG. Our next door neighbor had a baby over the summer and has gone through 3 child care situations since October. So, I'm scared.
I'm also wondering how in the world our family will even function, not to mention how will I be able to devote any time to my diet and health? I know women do it all the time, but they have to sacrifice so much. I'm disturbed by the whole thing.

OK, moving on. I've done a really good job this week especially with the workouts. I think the diet has been going really well too. I haven't been writing down my meals, but I have been keeping a mental tally of all my points. I've been where I need to be, but the scale isn't reflecting any losses. In fact, I've been at 179 every day EXCEPT today when I was 180. Grrrr. I really want to lose at least a pound by Sunday. I'm not giving up on it.

My DH had planned to be gone all weekend, but now he's on the fence about whether or not he will actually go. He does revolutionary war reinactments. He has band duties planned for just about every other weekend for the next 2 months, so I wouldn't blame him for staying. I think we are both going to be crazy by the time March rolls around.

Ok, I think I have about 1/2 hour before I need to make lunch for everyone. I'm off to catch up on some other journals.

OH - I almost forgot - AMY!!! Ty for posting and for supporting me!! :flower:

That is great that you are back on track!

Don't get too stressed about the childcare situation. If I were you, I'd get things set up NOW, before it is too late. I am a working mother, and for several years I was a single working mother. I was fortunate to find daycare that the kids loved (kinda makes you feel bad when they are having so much fun they don't want to come home!). It was hard at first, but 2 is a good age to get those social skills started. Both my kids started daycare at 1 and my DS9 is in the gifted program and DD6 is reading way above her grade level. I think having them in the daycare actually gave them a boost in the confidence department and the skills they needed to start kindergarten. So hang in there, it will all work out! And you just make time to work out. You will get into a routine and wonder how you can manage to fit all your activities into 24 hours! ::yes::

 for you. Good luck with the job interview! I need to start sending out my resume I'm looking for something new but haven't sent to many out yet. The whole process is stressful isn't it?

Great job on the workouts and the diet. I hate how the scale bounces up and down for me so I've done my best this week to stay off of it but it's killing me!!!!

Hi Heather!

Sounds like you're still working hard at this weight/exercise journey! I agree that now that the holidays are over it is easier to focus and stay on track.

The child care thing is such a concern, I'll hope things work out well for you. I've got 4 kids, and have worked with all of them, only staying home 3 months when they were born. It certainly wasn't easy, but they've done ok. I too had caregivers in homes with just a few kids, and they were very flexible at times. Maybe start now looking around, getting ideas so it isn't so stressful in the fall when you return to work. Hang in there! :sunny:

Hi everyone-

Wow, I'm posting 2 days in a row. This is a record for the new year, lol! I'm down to 178 today!! Woohoo!! I hope that the scale will behave so I can claim it as my official weight tomorrow.

I'm getting ready to go update the exersise challenge thread. I did 150 minutes of cardio this week and 30 minutes of upper body and abs. I think it's working for me. At some point I may add more lower body back in. I also want to add in more yoga this year.

Regarding the child care thing, IF I can get back in with DS's care giver I think DD will be OK. It's not the best situation, however it is much better than me not knowing how I'm going to pay the bills and buy groceries. The CG did tell me that she could refer someone if it didn't work out with her. My next door neighbor (the one who has changed day cares 3 times since school started) is also considering keeping kids in her home next year. That might be an option. She's certified in speech and (I think) early childhood, so that's definetely a plus, but she's also my next door neighbor. :earseek: I'm a little apprehensive about that part. Ty Amy and Kate for sharing your experiences. It never ceases to amaze me what women can do - work, run a household, raise kids all while still taking care of themselves (hopefully).

Beth, yeah the whole job hunt is stressful. I'll be glad when it's all settled. I hope you are able to find what you are looking for too.

DH decided not to go to his reinactment this weekend. He was supposed to go last night but we had terrible storms (and he would have been sleeping in a tent). So he went to a college basketball game today instead. I don't want to discourage him from going to his reinactments because he works really hard and deserves to go play hard, but I am relieved he stayed.

Ok, I've rambled on enough!

just wanted to stop by and say congrats on being down to 178--thats great!!
you are doing great with your exercise--keep it up!

Hi-

Well today was the official weigh in and I am now 177!!! Woohooo! :cool1: I lost 2 lbs for the week AND I got to change my ticker. Funny how I could gain and lose so much over the holidays but ticker stayed the same. :rolleyes1

Ty Jen! I actually jumped up and down in the bathroom when I saw the scale this morning. :teeth:

Today was my day off from working out, so I went shopping. I had a coupon from Lane Bryant for $15.00 off a $15.00 purchase. I don't like most of the stuff they have, but I'll shop for free stuff anyday. When I got there they were having a special on panties, 5 for $20.00, so that's what I got. I refuse to spend $14.00 on a pair of underwear unless they're really special, so it worked out well. A dollar each is much more my speed! I bought 14/16 which will probably be a little snug but I'll need them soon! I did try on some size 16 pants while I was there and they fit. :) After LB I headed to Babiesrus where all the clearance items where an additional 30% off. So now DD is pretty well set for next fall.

OK, it's late as usual. I'm off to update the challenge threads and then to bed. Have a good week all.

:cool1: WHOOO HOOOO!!! :cool1: Congrats on the loss!!!!!!!

I agree that shopping for free stuff is the best!

Hi Heather!!!!!

Way to go on the loss......that is awesome!!! Doesn't it feel good when you lose like that. I was the same way when I got under 200....hard to believe the scale so I got on and then got off several times. Wanted to make sure that it was right!!!!

You are doing a great job! Keep up the great work! Happy Monday!

Great news on the loss! You are really chugging your way to that goal. You will be there before you know it!

I am also a bargain shopper, you found some good buys!

Keep it up, you are doing an awesome job! :cool1:

Hi, Heather! Congratulations on the loss! I am so glad you are seeing the results of your efforts.

I am sorry about the childcare stress. I hope a perfect situation presents itself so that you can feel settled about it.

Keep up the great work. You are really inspiring me!

Congrats on the weightloss! You made it thru the holidays. You'll continue to see those pounds come off.

Hi everyone!

Ty Jane, Jen, Cam, Amy, Jamie and Beth for your wonderful comments and support. It really felt good yesterday to have a real loss. I feel like I am finally back on track after all the holidays.

Cam, I think we have a mutual admiration club going on, because you always inspire me! Ty for your thoughts about the child care stuff. I hope I can resolve everything soon. Once that happens I'll be able to work on accepting the situation.

Amy and Beth, today I went to Old Navy, where all the clearance items are marked off an additional 50%. I got a bunch of things for DD (yes, even though she doesn't need them) for $1.00 each and DH went nuts buying dress pants for around $6.00 each. He also got 2 coats, including a down jacket for $12.50.

I got in my 30 minutes of cardio today. Diet has been good, though dinner was a grilled chicken wrap from Sonic. It was an ok choice, but we wanted to get home quickly so the kids could get in bed. I still need to get in a little more water for the day.

I'm off. :)

Ooooooooo I might have to go see if they have anything for hubby tomorrow. I can't wear their stuff but it fits him great!!!! Thanks for the tip!

Good Morning,

Your choice at Sonic was not all that bad....could have been worse.....you did great. Sonic is a bad place for me!!!!! I could eat just about anything there!!!!

You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work and Happy Tuesday!

You are cleaning up with bargains! I told DH I should not be allowed to go to Target unattended anymore. I went in there yesterday for water and My Littlest Petshop (for DD6 as a reward for her report card) and came out with tons of "too big" clothes for the kids. The boys shirts were marked down to $1.74 and all the Hanes sweats and sweatshirts were $2.98! $98 later, I finally got out of there... :rolleyes1

Keep it up, you are really staying on top of those workouts! :sunny:

Hi everyone-

I have a confession...I am an American Idol junkie. Sad but true. It's the only show on TV that I absolutely MUST watch. And it's back!!! :hyper: YAY!

Ok, moving on...

Today's been good though pretty much uneventful. I decided to put in my Candlelight Yoga CD while we were waiting for DH to get home. DS actually tried to do some of it with me. The neatest part was watching him do some of the relaxation poses. I hope he does it with me again - he's probably at risk for anxiety issues since DH has problems. I think his learning how to relax at an early age could be a useful skill later in life.

Beth, I hope you find some good stuff. We were just amazed with the prices. The best part was that DH actually found things that he liked. I usually hate buying him clothes because he is so dang picky.

Jamie, isn't it hard to sit at that Sonic order box with all those lovely ice cream treats everywhere? Fortunately I have a stash of WW deserts in the freezer. That helps.

Amy, the Old Navy and Target stores near me are right next to each other. I was thinking of going over but it was pretty late when we came out of Old Navy. Probably for the best. I hear Target has reduced all their toys. I was thinking of getting some things for the kids' birthdays in May, but I'm not sure there's any money left for it.

I did 30 minutes of strength training today. I still do the BFL pyramid workouts for my upper body. I recently got some 10 lb weights and have been incorporating them into my routine. Seems to be going well except I can't use them with my shoulder reps yet. I do well just to get through with 8s.

Yikes, 12:15. I'm going to bed. :)
