The cooler in the room does not get cold enough for medication. It is a cooler (and I use that term loosely), not a refrigerator. From the way mine acted, you'd have more luck keeping things cool by putting them next to the AC vent.

Tepid tea, anyone?

Well, I guess we will need to bring a small cooler to keep it in .

Is there someone we have to notify that we are bringing a cooler on board for medication?

Do we need a Doctor's note?

Depends on how cold it needs to be. The "beverage cooler" is just that...a cooler. It isn't anywhere near as cold as a fridge. I kept my cokes in a collapsible cooler that our Stateroom Host kept filled with ice because I like them COLD. If you notify DCL ahead of time they can put a "real" (small) fridge in your room for the meds.

we called du and they sent us a medical form to be signed by a doctor..they want us to mail it back so that we will be sure to get a fridge

You can request a fridge in the stateroom for medical reasons otherwise pop the med in an ice bucket and have it filled 3 times a day ?

my dd (3) needs an asthma medication that requires refrigeration. We had no problem with the "cooler" in the room on either cruise we've been on. One suggestion, if you're not happy with the temperature in the refrigerator, is to put some ice IN the refrigerator...it will drop the temperature, and the ice will stay ice longer in there than it might in a cooler you brought on. We brought a cooler with us, but found it unneccessary. I guess the refrigerators really vary from room to room.

We had to use refrigerator in room for DS - growth hormone medication back in 2000 and it is an injectable medication in a glass vial. The room fridge kept it just fine. We just carried it on with the small cooler that was specifically for the medication and the injection needles with a doctor's note and didn't notify anyone as it was small enough to fit in a carryon or backpack. But we had no problems keeping the medication cold in the room.

My son was on growth hormone last year on our cruise. We had no problem with the bev. cooler. I did give customer service the ice packs that go in his travel cooler (2 small ones) and they had them frozen for us when we left.

Thanks everyone. I think the cooler will be fine and if not I will just add some ice.

Thanks

I think if you call and tell them about the mdication, they will place a real refrigerator in the room. I'm pretty sure my neighbor who needed to refrigerate her medication just called.

DCL placed a small refrigerator in my cabin for my medications and diet sodas (can't use nutrasweet so I bring my own with Splenda) This was in addition to the cooler already present.
