Fresh herbs for a recipe

I tried a new pasta side dish today. It called for fresh basil. I was able to walk out onto my deck and cut fresh basil out of the pot it is growing in. AAAHH, basil, orgegano, tarragon, parsley, chives. Love the summer with fresh herbs. Doesn't take much to make me happy

That sounds really good!!! I keep thinking some day I will grow my own herbs so I can do just as you did! I am sure it makes the food that much better!

With the 100+ heat we have been having, all mine died. I love fresh herbs too, I just never have any luck with them. Of course the mint is spreading like wildfire. Any secrets?

My herbs died too. It was too hot and too dry here. I would have had to water 2-3 times a day, and I didn't feel like it. Besides, caterpillers took over my parsley, and I'm enjoying watching them get fat. I should have butterflies sometime in the next week or so. I'm hoping they don't fly away before I see them.

Sonya and Kermit

I used to grow my herbs in my "herb garden", but it did not turn out as well as I had hoped.

Been growing them in big pots on my deck with much better results.

Sonya, this way the mint cannot take over the garden (as my mint and oregano did).

In one big pot I have basil, tarragon, oregano. Another parsley. Another chives.

Also Kermit, it makes it much faster to water the pot, either with a hose or sprinkling can.

Groosch!!! here on ter ferm....we have several large plots of many herbs....it's my favorite time of year!!!...thar...SO good! I especially like fresh cilantro and horseradish!

Wow goofyposter. I envy you. I keep telling DH, "just buy me a small farmhouse so I can feed the chickens, cook and bake, and grow veggies and herbs"

Horseradish? I love horeradish. Never thought about growing it. Will definately keep it on my list for next year.
