I heard on the news earlier that the French Prime Minister said that IF Saddam uses biological AND chemical weapons, that their stance may change. So, I guess as long as Saddam does NOT use the weapons that he says he doesn't have, then the French will still be thinking the same.

If they are so sure that Saddam does not have these weapons then why are they offering help if he uses them?

Or if they only use one or the other then that would be ok?

Deb

You beat me to it. Does it have to be both? A blue moon? How about nuclear weapons? Why not hold out for the WMD Tri-Fecta?

And I just heard something that Spain will not provide fighting troops after all, but will commit personal for medical aid and mine detonation (or something like that).

France is playing a game of CYA. Although I have no prejudice against people of French descent, I have absolutely no respect for the country and those who run it.

"If the war starts and if (President) Saddam Hussein uses chemical or biological weapons, it would change completely the situation for the French president and for the French government, and President (Jacques) Chirac will have to decide what we will do to help the American troops to confront this new situation.

I don't know. If I had a loved one over there, I'd take whatever help we can get, if it means saving a life.

I've moved from being against this war, to feeling resigned about it, to supporting it (and never was I not supportive of our troops over there-- just our government's decision to invade). Yet, I still think Germany has a strong point when they state that (essentially) this might be setting a precedent regarding overthrowing of governments without UN approval.

I agree Donna.

And I will add that I am half French and I am very proud of my heritage and my family. No matter how many people insinuate that I should be ashamed.

As far as I'm concerned, with the way I feel right now, yeah, it's a no-win situation for France. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that they could do to make me OK with them again.

And they said that a boycott of the France pavilion at Epcot wouldn't work. HA! ;)
