And the comment was an attack on the French people, not the government. As posted in this thread, the act is illegal and therefore not supported by the French government.

Yup, lord knows my DH takes our dog out every weekend and uses her as bait, too bad they haven't caught anything.

And the French are about as much to blame for this as we are for what people do on Guam or Puerto Rico. Reunion Island is a territory of France that's it. The culture on the island is a mix of African, Asian, and European.

Still freaking tired of the French bashing.............

Never did get the vehement anti France thing. If I were to boycott all the countries that disagree with our policies, my vacation list would be pretty short! (Of course I'd end up at WDW anyway!!)

Remove the "Awwww. It's cute" factor for a minute. And look at it from a wildlife management point of view.

1) Bait is the usually the predators natural prey of some kind. A dog's domain is far from the ocean.

2) True sportman are usually reuired by morales (if not the law), to make sure the bait (and the catch) do not suffer needlessly. When a bait fish is chummed, it's usually killed quickly. If it's used as live bait, the bait fish can survive because it's in it's own habitat. It's obvious that the lab puppy was hooked purposely in a manner to cause sufferring, then death. Not to mention eventual drowning is a cruel death.

This is why I believe it was wrong to fish for sharks like this.

I think there is a huge difference between killing an animal for food and killing an animal for sport.

Fish, we eat (though Chad may not), but I can't recall anyone who has eaten dog lately.

I don't understand how you can possibly equate one to the other.

That fish is on par to a cow/pig/chicken in my eyes. I certainly wouldn't want to torture any of them, but I guess that you're suggesting we all become vegetarians and kill none of them, Chad? PETA would appreciate your donation, and maybe put dogs/cats to sleep with some of it.
