It is really no different than if I campaigned for laws that would prevent you from practicing Christianity because it differed from my values. You and I and every other American has the equal right to practice our religion whatever that may be. Just as you and I and every other American should have the equal right to determine who they would like to marry.

We all have our beliefs (religion) and we all have the right to influence society. Basing one's beliefs on God (or not) does not disqualify anyone from influencing the society that we and our children live in.

There are so many countries already accepting same sex marriages or civil unions and in none of those countries anything changed to the worse for straight people - it just got better for the gay and lesbian people and I don't see anything wrong with that.
