Free Upgrades for later dates??

My cousin just booked on Fri. and got an upgrade.:goodvibes They are going Sept 5 thru the 10th. They were going to stay at a value and they were offered CSR or PO, they went with CSR. Is the the first upgrade that is past labor day weekend? Is this the first upgrade that is not DVC?

Of course I made my reservations earlier this week and was not offered this upgrade.:sad2: and am now stuck at ASsports!!

was it an upgrde or (i foret what you call it) when you can stay at a higher level hotel for a little more money but not the full cost it would be?

Bell, you mean an "upsell"?

Right now I just checked and if I put my dates of 9/21-9/29 (we switched the last 2 nights of free dining out with an AP rate at CR). There are no Values available. If I put our original dates (which we still have) of 9/21-10/1, ASMu has standard rooms and ASSp has both. ASMo and POP are sold out! I am going to keep my full ressie with ASMo until day 46 and then decide what to do. I am thinking of moving one kid in dads room and have 1A 3C and have them keep their room the full length of our trip and then me and 1 other kid will check out when we are going to CR. This way dad and 3 kids still have the DDP and I will just pay OOP for me and one kid.

I was told it was an upgrade, they weren't going to stay if they couldn't get a value resort.

Congrats to your cousin! And my sympathies to you! We're never that lucky either! BTW... it always cracks me up when I see "ASsports"... cause it reads to me like "blank" ports. When I first started lurking on this board... I was wondering what the heck are these people saying!;)

We are staying Sept 15th through 21st. While I would LOVE a free upgrade, I am not holding my breath. My kids will love POP anyway.

However, those of you that call, what exactly do you ask? I called and asked if I had a pin attached to my ressie and she acted like I was straight out of the funny farm. Do I explain why I am asking? Do I ask if the pin is attached to my name rather than the ressie? Or my husband's name? Should I check both names?

Sorry for all the questions but this is our first time staying on site.

I said something like, "I feel really funny asking this, but the people I'm traveling with were offered an upgrade to Old Key West, and they said to call and see if there was a code* attached to my name?" There wasn't, but the CM was really, really great about it.

*'code' said with a sort of upward pitch in my tone, as if I wasn't really sure what I was talking about :)

I had a ressie for 8/26-9/1 w/ free dining at ASSp. When I called back to ask if there was a code attached to my ressie, the CM would not look it up. He sounded annoyed that I would even ask. :sad2: I politely told him others have gotten free upgrades and I just wondered if we had gotten one too. He interupted me saying "Disney does not double-discount. You already have free dining." :snooty:

After a few more polite requests to check and see if there was an upgrade to a DVC resort, I guess he figured I knew "something." He then said he would check my household to see if there was a code and, surprise surprise, there wasn't. Wow, though, you would have thought the discount was coming out of his pocket. I could not get him to check the actual ressie number.

Folks here told me to call back. I did, a few days later, but it was to cancel the ressie and make a new one for early Aug instead with no dining. Early Aug just works out better for us. I am kicking myself for not asking the CM if I did have a code attached to my free dining ressie before I cancelled it. I was preoccupied with switching resorts for the new ressie. Maybe it's better that I didn't know. ;)

It is still a mystery to me whether these codes/upgrades/pins are attached to your name or ressie number. Maybe all. I still do not know if the infamous upgrade to SSR/OKW free dining was something that could be pulled up by checking the ressie number or "household.". I know it started out as an email code, but we know folks called anyway and the upgrade was found somewhere. Ressie? Or name?

I have heard stories at other times where people said codes did not pop up until the CM on the phone entered a different resort choice for them and wallah, the CM would say, "something just popped up." Good luck to all of you! Disney always keeps us guessing, huh? :upsidedow

The infamous "pin codes" can be very frustrating! I never receive them...don't know why. However, with the latest round of upgrades to OKW/SSR I called and although there was nothing attached to my household (and believe me, we tried everyone's name and even previous addresses/phone numbers), I was using enough brain cells that day to check my DSIL's household information too and sure enough -- she had the upgrade offer! It's just crazy as I'm the one that books everything for the whole family. :confused3

So here is a better question, how do you get someone nice enough to check all of that for you? ;)
