However, those of you that call, what exactly do you ask? I called and asked if I had a pin attached to my ressie and she acted like I was straight out of the funny farm. Do I explain why I am asking? Do I ask if the pin is attached to my name rather than the ressie?
I had a ressie for 8/26-9/1 w/
free dining at ASSp. When I called back to ask if there was a code attached to my ressie, the CM would not look it up. He sounded annoyed that I would even ask.

I politely told him others have gotten free upgrades and I just wondered if we had gotten one too. He interupted me saying "Disney does not double-discount. You already have free dining."
After a few more polite requests to check and see if there was an upgrade to a DVC resort, I guess he figured I knew "something." He then said he would check my household to see if there was a code and, surprise surprise, there wasn't. Wow, though, you would have thought the discount was coming out of his pocket. I could not get him to check the actual ressie number.
Folks here told me to call back. I did, a few days later, but it was to cancel the ressie and make a new one for early Aug instead with no dining. Early Aug just works out better for us. I am kicking myself for not asking the CM if I did have a code attached to my free dining ressie before I cancelled it. I was preoccupied with switching resorts for the new ressie. Maybe it's better that I didn't know.
It is still a mystery to me whether these codes/upgrades/pins are attached to your name or ressie number. Maybe all. I still do not know if the infamous upgrade to SSR/OKW free dining was something that could be pulled up by checking the ressie number or "household.".

I know it started out as an email code, but we know folks called anyway and the upgrade was found
somewhere. Ressie? Or name?
I have heard stories at other times where people said codes did not pop up until the CM on the phone entered a different resort choice for them and wallah, the CM would say, "something just popped up." Good luck to all of you! Disney always keeps us guessing, huh?
