Free upgrades at Poly

Last May, my family stayed at WL. We had booked a woods view. While checking-in, we were upgraded to a courtyard view, without even asking!

We are thinking of staying at the POLY next May. We were wondering if those "free" upgrades ever happen at the POLY. Right now, we are thinking of booking garden view, but would LOVE a lagoon view. Has anyone ever been upgraded free of charge?

I really would not expect it. We have been to the Poly many times and have never expected, nor asked for an upgrade. We get what we pay for each time, a garden view room. I only request a longhouse I am interested in. Maybe another poster has had some of that pixie dust sent their way, but we are definetely a family who has nor, nor have we ever thought of it. THe Poly is a pretty popular deluxe. Its always been pretty full no matter when we have gone. You would have a better chance of being upgraded at akl, where they have many more rooms available.

I always request the cheapest view. sometimes you get up graded, sometimes you dont.

Before I had my daughter, we almost never got an upgrade, but, I am 3 for 3 since she has been born.

The last 2 times she was 2 and 3, and I briught her up to the check in desk to use her "charms" on the cast member. My child is extra cute (i know, they all are) (proud daddy) and she is a very good speaher for her size.

When it comes to the room, the cm both times looked at my daughter, and said, "how would you like to see the pool from your room"

Well, I'm guessing those upgrades weren't at the Polynesian since pool view rooms there are in gardenview category these days and not an upgrade at all..

We've stayed at the Polynesian many times and have never been upgraded. I would book what you want.

But the good news is that the gardenviews are truly lovely. :flower:

Book what you can afford and what you want.

You can ask for an upgrade (or have it given to you withoutasking) but never, ever count on it if it's really important to you.

Personally, I ask for upgrades wherever I stay. I usually get them. Disney less so, though.

Never, ever hurts to ask..what do you have to lose?!

twocat, have you ever received a free upgrade at the Polynesian? TIA.

I've been to the Poly 6 times in the last 3 years and have never gotten an upgrade.

Never at the Poly but haven't stayed there recently so I've never asked. I was at the YC when upgraded to concierge. I tend to travel to WDW on non-peak times where the possibility of an upgrade is better. Upgraded several levels at the Swan last November.

Even if you don't get upgraded, the garden view rooms still have great views. We stayed in Fiji (garden view) and overlooked the marina, the contemporary, space mt. and the electric water pageant. Way better than I thought it would be. -Steph

I wouldn't get your hopes up for an upgrade at the Poly. If it happens, great, if it doesn't, you won't be disappointed.

Some of the garden views in Tokelau have a partial view of the Lagoon. We had one of those rooms when I stayed there a couple of years ago. I had one of those rooms when I stayed there. We were in room 1910, and we had a view partial view of the lagoon and the Grand Floridian from our balcony.

This is great information for myself who will be staying at the Poly for the first time in May.

Can you really have a bad room at the poly? they all look great to me! I think I'll be happy where ever they put me, but why not ask, what can it hurt

There are very few bad rooms at the Polynesian. I would say the south side (garden view) of Tuvalu and the parking lot side of Rapa Nui are the worst you can get and that is not many out of all the rooms there.

As far as an upgrade we got one in 2000. We were booked through Disney in a non-concierge lagoon view room and when we checked in we were told we were bumped up to concierge lagoon view. A year or so later when I asked someone I know there why we were upgraded we were told that many times the online discount places like Expedia overbook so people that don’t book through the discount web pages get bumped up.

I don't think that there is a bad room at the Poly. Sure, some are better than others but I would take the worst room at the Poly over the best room at any value or moderate resort! Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the other resorts but staying at the Poly is almost magic for me and my family. The view from the beach sitting in a chair and watching the fireworks is what a vacation is all about, at least for me anyway. I don't know what it is about the Poly that keeps me comming back for more. Whatever it is I hope it never changes! :earboy2:

Ok... I see now. ;) A little slow this morning. :teeth:

Well, in my experience, I have never received an upgrade at any WDW resort..... and we've probably been down there about 20 times in the last 6 years. Whatever category we book is always what we get. ;)
