Free Room Upgrades?

I haven't gotten an upgrade during my short stays. However, my rented reservation did get upgraded from studio to 1 bedroom at BLT for 5 nights. So technically I did get an upgrade, but I wasn't on the reservation.
Hope the renter appreciated it.....lol

I got my first upgrade in 20 years of ownership last December. At BWV for 8 nights in a studio I was upgraded for m standard view to pool view. Didn't ask for anything and was surprised when I went to the room after receiving the text that the room was on the "wrong" side of the hall.

I once stayed in a standard view at BWV that seemed to be "on the wrong side," but the view of the pool was blocked. While it overlooked the pool, I confirmed that it was legitimately a standard view due to the obstructed view of the pool.

That's a possibility. Looking back at the photos a tree did partially block the view.

Looks like I was in 2070. A quick search shows that 1070 and 2070 appear to be standard view while 3070, 4070, and 5070 are pool view, likely because of the tree and the building blocking the view. The x070 rooms also appear to be handicap accessible.

Free upgrade at Carribean to Pirate room - what a long walk - not much of a free room upgrade for two older adults!

over 21 years, we received a big upgrade once - in 2014, BW View Studio to Village Green (technically, BW View) 1 bedroom for 12 nights.
It was glorious - I literally danced upon entering the room (my nephew was joining my daughter & I that trip, so the timing of the upgrade was phenomenal).
However, it came at a cost - we realized how much we missed the 1 bdrms, & have added 3 more contracts since then :o

I've never even thought about an upgrade since I didn't think they even existed. Reading these stories is fun because it puts a little thought into the back of your head. I am very happy with where I book and what type of room we book and upgrades never ever my mind, but what a way too start a vacation!

On Friday night I had a studio booked for our friends at BCV, where we were also staying in a studio. Friends came to our room where we were going to share some wonderful cookies from Gideon’s Bakehouse. Friends asked where our washer/dryer was. Told them that studios don’t have them inside, but they said theirs did! So, on Friday, for one night, there was an upgrade at BCV, studio to one bedroom!

By the way, those cookies are delicious!

The only upgrade I ever got was before I was DVC. I was on my honeymoon, at the contemporary and they had booked me partial garden wing and then had me moving to another room in the main resort in the middle of the stay. The CM was confused (since I had purchased the entire thing at once). and tried to find me a room I could stay in the entire time - they managed to find a 1BR in BLT. That's the trip I purchased DVC (I liked it so much I bought).

The only thing I can sat about the FB group (I think it's the same one I am on).
1. Remember that even the number of people on there are still a small number of people compared to the number of DVC guests staying. It's really, not that big a percentage.
2. It's a pandemic. Disney is doing a lot of shuffling to either Distance rooms, give them time to clean rooms, and deal with maintenance issues. It's stabilizing already (i.e. you may have already missed the horse) and will continue to do so.

If 2070 is the accessible room just behind the elevator, I was offered that as an upgrade. Specifically referred to as a garden view. There is no pool view category at BWV.

For me, that was no upgrade. i prefer to be down near the tennis courts and close to my car.

That room made me walk further, not have a bath tub, have the wet floor as it was a roll in shower, plus the heavy, industrial type shower curtain. Just walking into the bath took away my magic. Don't remember looking at the view - I was in and back out in seconds.

No thanks. Not the category I booked. Editing to say that I stayed in a HA room at BCV in 2019 that was just fine.
,
They may have upgraded the room since I turned it down as they've had at least one reno since then.

At BLT I felt upgraded, but was in category I believe. I had a lake view where I could see the castle, watch the train when we had the train running, hear music, see the Space Mountain side of the park, plus enjoy a good portion of the water view on the lake.

A friend of mine got an upgrade at BCV mid April to a one bedroom from a studio for a 5 night stay.

That said, I agree with your assessment.

BLT rooms can have funny categories. I have had some over the years that felt to me like an upgrade, but actually were in the category I was supposed to be in. The curve of the tower makes it very confusing.

We got upgraded on a recent points stay at BWV but it was right after the flooding issue from the pipes so a bunch of the studios were affected.

We were booked for a studio, we did use online check in and when our room came up as ready in MDE it was a one bedroom.

That trip it was just DH, DS and me so a party of 3.

If it had been one of our normal trips with all 3 kiddos (and we do, very frequently, stay in studios with our family of 5) we probably wouldn’t have been upgraded, someone else would have gotten the pixie dust b/c the 1 br villas at BWV don’t sleep 5.
Honestly when it showed up as a 1br I panicked thinking I had messed up the booking and used way more points. But no, just pixie dusted.

At the BWV now. I went to the desk when we arrived because I had trouble accessing my room when we were here a few months back (Magic band issue)
She told me we got an upgrade. Standard to Pool (tree) view. The room is nice and I am not complaining but I keep laughing because the pool sounds are so loud it makes me appreciate our standard view rooms. I will say, the heat and these masks - never again. I was hoping the masks would be gone when I booked this trip and lesson learned. Never taking a chance again in 90 degree weather.

Well... it just happened to us, I was staying at AKV over the weekend on rented points and got upgraded from a studio to a 1-bed due to “bees in the balcony”, we were only staying for 1 night so that’s probably what contributed to it.

Jambo or Kidani and what was the studio type?
