Free Eyeglasses at Target!

Our school nurse sent this out today and I took my daughter in. There is no catch and it didn't cost me a dime!

Target is giving away a pair of glasses free to kids 12 and under. You have to have a valid prescription and choose from select frames. (The one by us had about 45-50 to choose from.)

The promotion will end any time based on the response they get so the guy at Target said to go soon.

There is no coupon. All of the SuperTargets around here have optical departments and they had signs up about the free pair.

I wonder if regular targets have it or just super targets. Anyone know? Would love to get my daughter an extra pair to have on hand.

None of the regular Targets I have been in have an optical department. What a great deal for those who do!

Targets here don't have vision centers but Walmart does the same thing here it's for kids who needs glasses but don't have insurance to cover eye glasses. Rule here is kid just has to be in school

Here's a store locator, and you can put in "optical" as a preference. There are none within 100 miles of me, according to the locator.

Do you have to get an eye exam by Target or can you bring in a prescription? My son just had his eyes checked less than 3 months ago and got his first pair of glasses. Would be nice to have a backup.

The Walmart here does/did this. Here's the catch: Free eyeglasses for kids who can't afford them are usually offered in the FALL. I'm surprised the OP's Target had any left to offer.

Other resources: Lion's Club in many communities. They do request financial information from applicants.

You do not have to have an exam at Target. I called my daughter's eye doctor and they faxed me a copy of her prescription which I took in.

The promotion is not based on financial need. Any child who has a valid prescription can get a free pair.

Honestly, it seemed too good to be true until I went in and talked to the guy at Target (who happened to be one of my student's parents). He said it is just a promotion they are doing to increase awareness of their optical department.

Is this in all states? We live in PA and our target does have an optical dept. but I've never heard of this. When I went to target's website it isn't mentioned. Maybe it is only at some stores?

According to our local Target's optical dept. today (when I rushed right over there after reading this thread!!!), this is a brand-new TRIAL program they've rolled out first in Kansas. Depending upon how it works out for Target, they MIGHT expand it to other Targets in different regions throughout the country. Our guys said if they do it at ours, it would be in August.

I'm in the KC area. Took my son's prescription in to Target today. Took about five minutes and we have our FREE pair ordered. The frames are thin, basic wire frames. I probably wouldn't buy them if I was paying for fear they would bend easily. However, they are fantastic for a FREE backup pair. No complaints.

Yep, I called my Targets optical department (California) and they had no idea what I was talking about... I think they thought I was crazy.

I called our Target today (Indiana) and the lady said she had heard a rumor, but it wasn't in our stores yet.
